I am posting this because I have barely dueled since E-Dragons showed up in DN, and I want to optimize this deck (mainly the side deck) to at least give it the chance of fighting against the top tiers. Any changes I should do? I have read suggestions for other decks that recommend x3 Compulsories and Breakthrough Skills; should I be running those cards as well? I find Fiendish Chain more appealing because of the attack prevention, but if Breakthrough is a need this format, I am willing to swap the Chains for them.

I prefer Machina Force because, unlike Cannon, it is not affected by Devastation Virus, although the Trap rarely shows up nowadays. I realize I could Summon Cannon as an emergency wall, but discarding a card for a 2200 DEF wall will rarely save me.

I ran 2 Fortress/2 Cannons for a while and that combination sometimes led me to bad hands (draw the 2 Cannons early game and got Gearframes/Fortresses when it was too late), so I am sticking with 3 Fortress.

 

I was thinking in running +1 a Force and maybe +1 Saizan for a second Burei target but I don't know what to drop.

True, but I would have no use for it because I cannot do anything with a Level 8 on the field. If I were running other Level 8s or Tuners with lower levels then I would run Cannon, but that's not the case for this deck.

 

Hmm... now that I think about it, I guess I could use Cannon and Salvo to Summon Star Eater, but I don't know if it would be worth it since the combo would be slightly situational and I don't know what to drop for Star Eater.

 

I will give it a try anyways because, albeit situational, I could use the Cannon discard for setting a Salvo target up early game, and then Normal Summon the Salvo.

 

So:

+1 Cannon

 

+1 Star Eater

-1 Burei?

Well, it can kill Catastor by battle (something that Burei or any other available Synchro 7 cannot do), and I can equip a lone Gearframe to it and draw a card, but that's about it. I know facing a Catastor is unusual but I would hate to be completely walled by it if I don't have Traps/Dark Armed on hand.
