Music in Media (Games/TV/Film/Etc.)

Vague survey. In a way, programmatic music here is a whole new genre in itself, as it works best in conjunction with the visual media itself as well.

Anyway, do you ever actively seek out music or soundtracks from any media? Perhaps a good game soundtrack, or a particularly intriguing film score.

Yes, I just love the Stark Mountain theme.

Programmatic Music is my favorite genre of music since there are so many different forms and concepts that can go into it.  I actively seek out game music since their thematics in music choice tend to be highly varied.  This allows me to enrich the ability to feel my emotions, which is my favorite pastime other than playing Video Games themselves.

I tend to love me a good violin piece from a lot of video game scenarios. In general I'm not a fan of VGM outside of their actual context though. A good example of one I absolutely fucking love would be this, though:

Naturally, this is on my iPod.

Often a movie's soundtrack may also be interesting, but a lot of the time it's not something I think about unless the soundtrack is advertised (Like the Tron soundtrack by Draft Punk).

In most media, I tend to get absorbed by whatever piece is playing plus the visuals that go with it, and so it's not easy to have it really stick in my mind to actually seek out.

I have downloaded all 145 tracks from the massive Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn soundtrack, as well as the entire soundtrack for Chrono Trigger, FMA: Brotherhood, and Portal 2, along with several songs from most every anime/game I've seen/watched. So yeah, I enjoy that kind of stuff.

Though one of my favorites is probably this:

Currently rewatching the first 2 season of Person Of Interest and the score done by Ramin Djawadi is an absolute beauty along with songs by famous trip hop band like Massive Attack, Unkle and Sparklehorse.

If I'm honest not really. I did a few times seek out Pokemon game songs namely Pyrite Town and Miror B's Theme (Colo). Although I did actively seek out the intro song for Suits because I liked it so much. Animes more so than any other. (Although I don't plan on searching for Rozen Maiden's themes anytime soon).

Yes, pretty much. A large part of my attention often goes to the music.:D

I think the music score can make or break certain scenes as much as the visual aspect does, but I wouldn't say I stick to it.

Often the background music can work so well because it fills out the background and doesn't overwhelm what is going on.

I prefer movie soundtracks though and some video game music.

I think I prefer a lot of movie and game soundtracks to any other, for films, two that come to my head immediately are those from LOTR and Top Gun. As for games, Metal Gear Solid, and Skyrim main theme. These also happen to be some of my favourite movies/games, although I haven't played MGS for years, but Metal Gear 4 in particular was my favourite- the final boss fight was great, it included a lots of music from the series, and was quite intense. Sorry I went a little off topic, just had to mention that ^-^

Same, I like these too.=o

My favourite composer must be Clint Mansell, but LOTR had beautiful music.

VGM-wise I mostly listen to Touhou arranges, Skyrim and Final Fantasy.

I'm not really a huge fan of OSTs at all, there are a few that I like, but they're made specifically for background music a lot of it to me sounds really typical, and I find it hard to listen to it outside of the context of the game, heck even sometimes I'll mute the game and put on an album that I like, though if soundtrack music is your type of music then whatever.

From the soundtrack of Only God Forgives, and I think it sounds absolutely awesome. I personally enjoy film soundtracks immensely, with notable ones in recent years being There Will be Blood, Drive, Inglourious Basterds, The Master, Django Unchained, plenty more. Although I tend not to listen to soundtracks on their own, now and again, I will do.

So I played Halo (Combat Evolved) for the first time in FOREVER last night, and had major nostalgiagasm. Me and my bro's used to play it all the time when I was younger, especially around the time of the first and second installment. The compositions for the games were amazing in my opinion, and I really hope one day I can play them all again :) But yeah, nostalgia just bitchslapped me real hard. Especially on the main screen: I'll just go cry in a corner now...

Sorry for linking btw, I don't know how to embed just yet(hinthint?)
