[Warrior/Synchro/Effect]

1 EARTH Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner "Six Samurai" monsters

When this card is Synchro Summoned: you can destroy all other monsters you control and add 1 "Six Samurai" or "Shien" Spell or Trap Card from your Deck to your hand, but it cannot be activated while you control this face-up card. You can only use this effect of "Shien The Defeated General" once per Duel. If a Spell or Trap is activated that would make a "Six Samurai" monster you control leave the field: You can Tribute this card; negate that card and destroy it, also your opponent cannot activate any card of the same Type (Spell OR Trap) until next turn's End Phase.

Hokay, looking at Ryoku, I can see him being made most likely using Elder and Kageki, in which the latter can summon the former. Basically, I find Ryoku's ENTIRE purpose to pretty much be to spam counters on United, Dojo and Gateway. And if it brings too many counters on Gateway, you're going to have a bad time.

Shien on the other hand, acts as a Level 6, to combo with Kagemusha/T.G. Striker with Kizan to make him, not a bad option. His destruction effect is good if you do actually hurt yourself, but freely searching Dojo and United leaves a bad taste. It can't search Gateway, which is the only thing that makes Sams even remotely good. His Derpdust like effect pretty much grants you access to the card you just gained, however, you can trigger it yourself with say, Compulsory to not only lock out your opponent's traps, but to gain access to the searched card when you want too.

It's a hard choice, but, I'm going with Shien, since Ryoku is just there to add more counters to Gateway, which is a stupid card anyways. Shien requires thought, and gives the necessary protection; even though ironically it can't save Shi En from monster effects.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ryoko is, again, just there to basically add counters to cards like United and Gateway and/or to exchange your single little sam for a big one.  Extra deck monsters paying for themselves like this isn't the best design.

Shien is actually pretty well-designed.  It pays for itself in a balanced fashion, chooses control over OTK, and still remains a good card.  Not sure how often it'd be played though.

Vote goes to me (Mugen).

Gateway is banned now anyway, so even for the counter swarming, my card isn't so useful now.

Since I doubt we'd get anymore votes, and your card is clearly the better of the two. Lets just call this your win Mugen (after a month or so...). GG!

Although looking straight at Commander Sexy over there, Konami thought that SS'ing worked for Karakuri's extra deck, so they wouldn't be beyond making a card such as Ryoku.
