To make a basic ROM Hack you will need:

 

Advance Map (To edit the map look and scripts, you can find at Tools on Pokecommunity)

Advance Text (To edit what the people/signposts etc say, I advise you don't use, it can muck it up, your A LOT safer learning how to scripts)

Advance Mart (To edit the prices of the Pokemon Mart, and what they sell in them)

Any World Map Editor (So it will show up as your region, I currently have not found one)

IntroEd (Not really needed, but it changes what Pokemon Oak/Birch etc shows you at the start of the game)

Any sprite editor (To edit the look of Sprites, I recommend OWE from Pokemon Community)

Other tools like changing the Starter Pokemon can be found at HackMew's Tool Factory on Pokecommunity.

 

 

Also you will need:

 

Pokemon Gameboy Advance ROMS (I get mine from dashroms.com, I WILL NOT provide direct links to ROM's)

A Gameboy Advance Emulator (To play it on, I use Virtual Boy)

Lunar IPS (Most people put their ROM Hack in this file format)

 

 

That round about sums it up! I figured how to do it all by myself so I think you could to! But still, any questions are welcomed.

What are we supposed to hack with those programs?

Are all those programs used to hack a different thing in the ROM?

 

What in the world is a ROM Hack.

 

A GBA ROM is a Gameboy Advance Game on the computer that you can play with a GBA Emulator, and a Hack of it is a permanent change in the code, for example another pallette so that everything looks different or that you gain 100000000000 exp. for every Goblin you defeat.

People hack ROMS for fun. I say a version of The Legend of Zelda for GBC where all the comments were changed to swearing and hilarious situations. Even the title got changed to La Leyenda de la Cerda (yeah, it's in spanish).

 

And some guys at a forum are making SMB using their own sprites, and someone made a hacked version of some GBA Pokemon game to put forum members as trainers and pokemons.

 

Hacking a ROM doesn't hack your computer btw.

 

And Mon94key, we have the tools... how do we hack now?

Hack into computers? How is making a ROM Hack hacking into computers?

wow man your in the wrong community ima pokecommunity vet but these peeps dont have a clue what ur talking about man and mew factory is out dated he hasent posted new apps in over a year =\

anyway....hacking a gba is completely different than a computer. but cheat codes [or what ever this counts as]

is pathetic, learn to play the real way not through some pathetic combination of buttons and coding.....

Wrong again.

 

It's editing the game code so as to create new areas, levels, storylines, etc.
