[spoiler='Introduction']
The hollowed voices tore through the woods. The boy no longer felt the pain from his bleeding feet. He felt nothing but fear suffocating his heart. Running into a clearing, he notices the chanting stopped. Silence, which usually came as a comfort to the boy, was now a daunting enemy. He crouched next to a tree and tried to slow his breathing. The foot steps sounded again, but they were different. These were more distant and sounded frantic. A muffled scream was absorbed by the dense woods, but this child knew. He stood up and sprinted in the direction of the foot steps.

"Sean!" a woman shouted in the distance.

"Mom!" Sean screamed in sorrow. He knew what his mother did not, that neither of them would escape. The voices returned, whispering louder than thunder.

"Come here my child" the voices roared as Sean collapsed onto the wet forest floor. The woman ran up to her son and grabbed him tightly. she sobbed as robed figures surrounded her and drew in closer and closer...

[spoiler='Plot']
Charles was an average man, living in Pass Christian Mississippi with his wife Marissa, his daughter Reinna, and his father Donnie. Two years after the birth of Reinna, Marissa and Donnie died in a fatal car accident. Three years passed and Charles had nothing to live for, except his daughter, who had just started kindergarten. Her well being was his purpose in life. Life had reached a steady pace, and he felt that everything was back to normal.

One fateful day in December Charles watched Reinna get on the bus and he left for work. This was the last time he saw his daughter. He came home expecting to find her at the neighbors, like every other day. But she wasn't there. He checked his voicemail at home, and Reinna had never arrived at school that day. Months passed along with hundreds of searches for the little girl in the surrounding areas. It all came up empty.

Mid-March of the year 2013, Charles began hallucinating. He would see strange vision of his daughter calling to him. Taking him deep into the woods where he would encounter several young children without faces. He would turn to his daughter, who had her face stolen as well. He decided to visit a Lost Child Support Group, thinking that these visions are stress related.

It was there he discovered that several other parents are having the same hallucinations. Realizing it's more than just hallucinations, they began to investigate what is affecting all of them.

Slenderman Descriptions/Explainations:
This text was taken from the Slender Man Wiki and edited to fit my story
In almost every description Slenderman's basic attributes will vary greatly, however several basic traits are typical of his behavior. He is shown to behave in a very passive aggressive manner, stalking targets for years at a time, torturing his target mentally for various unknown reasons. He is rarely ever shown in a benevolent light and is typically shown as a malevolent force. This behavioral pattern has an uncertain reasoning behind it, and exactly why he behaves in such a way has yet to be fully ascertained.
The most important factor about Slenderman is the mystery. He lives unlike any human being despite having a similar appearance to one. It is uncertain if he is social, or even understands human languages or behaviors, nor why it is humans appear to be his main target. His targets will typically behave in off ways as if possessed (Proxy), but whether their psychosis is causing them to speak for him or for themselves isn't entirely certain either.
Slenderman's appearance is variable as the years go on, but as of to date the most recent appearance is that of an abnormally tall human with long arms and no face whom is wearing a business suit. Again it is uncertain if his suit is real cloth or some form of skin molded into such an appearance. If it is the former, this would imply an intelligent being attempting to try to blend in. If it is the latter, it shows a being that is extremely adaptive and evolves to match his environment and stick out less (or more).
Slenderman's appearance provokes a wide range of responses, the most common being fear. This is partially due to his extremely towering size over a full grown adult, which mimics the childhood fear of adult humans bigger than the child. His behavior also factors into it. Finally, the main fact is he is completely unable to be described in human terms. While a description in words can be given, human language lacks the ability to truly define the entity until such a time as when humans can interact with him (if at all possible). This problem stems from the fact that he operates in a plane of existence further from humans. This is believed to be fourth dimensional space which gives him powers a human cannot understand due to humans living in three dimensions of space and being unable to comprehend the fourth dimension at this time.
In total two major types of Slender Man descriptions exist. The original versions depict him as not only malevolent, but extremely dangerous. He will do odd things such as removing organs and placing them in bags, impaling targets on trees and aggressively stalking targets after a period of time. A contemporary depiction shows Slender Man as being extremely passive aggressive, often letting a person slowly delves into madness at their situation until being unable to cope. If invited to anger, he will typically charge a target down until caught and vanish with them to unknown locations. This version also shows an odd response to electronic equipment and causes massive problems with audio, surveillance, camera, and other various electronic devices with displays or audio. Sometimes an individual can determine if he is near simply by how certain electronics react such as radios, televisions, or cameras. How powerful this effect is seems to vary, and can either be due to Slender Man's own state of aggression, or other outside factors either inside or beyond Slender Man's control.
“In the early 1600s, a small village near Black Forest in Germany used to kill criminals who committed some of the most heinous or sinister crimes. These criminals would be tied to fast growing trees within the forest and they would either die of starvation, or being stretched to death. Eventually an enchanted fire released the soul of a child molester but burned off his face in the process. He stalks the forests waiting to snatch children from their play.”
This was a fairy tale told to children to keep them from wandering into the forests. But this created a very in depth belief of Slenderman and this belief created him. The unknown being, which is often referred to as The White Knight in modern culture, began fulfilling his role in the story. He would kidnap children and fuel the fear of him. He feeds off of fear and sanity. But the more children he took, the more protective this Germanic village became. They began protecting their children and eventually the belief of Slenderman was slowly dying. In an effort to save himself, he kidnapped another child and spared his life. He granted this boy immortality for the cost of him killing his parents.
Contributors have placed early sightings of Slenderman-like beings in early 1600s Germany and before, where it took the dress of a knight or royal figure. Germanic fairy tales and mythology also makes use of the creatures to be used as cautionary tales for children.
Photographs from the early 1900s were the next confirmed reports, where imagery of Slenderman can be found in classical black and white and sepia imagery. Reports from this time indicate sightings in America, the UK, and Russia, as well as reports of child disappearances.
By the mid-1900s, some rare run-ins occurred in the war zones in Germany, apparently Slenderman's native land. Soldiers were the primary targets here. In America and Canada, reports of missing skiers and children appeared, coming from forested areas of the nations.
After a spree of building burnings from unknown causes, several deaths and a few surviving witnesses, it could be gathered that the Slenderman had the following traits:
Slenderman will find interest in a victim for reasons unknown
It would then contact the victim, if it is a child, presenting itself as friendly
The adults he stalks have a common trait: they have all been through a terrible tragedy in their life, even if the tragedy was made by Slenderman directly
If an adult, it would stalk the victim for long amounts of time causing what is known as "Slender sickness" causing massive paranoia, nose bleeds, nightmares, hallucinations appearing to only the sick person, and many other dangerous symptoms.
Eventually, it would abduct the victim into nearby forest, where they would be killed.
In 'messy' cases, it may remove evidence of its existence by causing fire of their home, place of work, or school
Death of the victim originally occurred through an odd means- the victim would be impaled on branches of very tall trees while still alive, and bleeds to death. The organs would be individually removed, then placed in plastic bags. They would then be replaced into the body in their original positions, plus the plastic bags. The victims' corpses do not show any sign of a struggle. As time has gone on, this practice has seemingly been abandoned.
In the late 1990s, technology shed more light on the creature through the use of commonplace cameras and camcorders. Slenderman was recorded and photographed stalking potential victims many times.
In the late 2000s to early 2010s, several individuals recorded ongoing stalking and attack scenarios of themselves and their friends. These video accounts are codenamed Marble Hornets, EverymanHYBRID, DarkHarvest00, MLAndersen0, and TribeTwelve. As well as certain Rivn videos.
The new forays into Slender Man’s powers, abilities, and attacks have shown drastic difference from his original behaviors. The original desire to impale targets on trees, his rather aggressive attitude, and attacking mainly children has been altered. It appears he seems to enjoy targeting humans who have seen him in childhood and following them for years. He appears to do so in such a way that the target is unaware of his presence for potentially months, years, or even decades, and typically won't be aware at any point in time until it is far too late.
Slenderman has two states he uses, one representing the original and the other representing his contemporary state. He wears two different ties, a red and black one. The red one represents rage and the black is a calm passive aggressive state.
His behavior is extremely passive aggressive, where he stalks, follows, and torments an individual by repeatedly showing his presence. He will typically do so in invasive ways, such as appearing inside someone's house, outside their home, on roads they travel, at their place of work when they are alone, or while the target is sleeping. This will create a general unease of the target, as the invasion of an entity in their own safety zone will begin sparking incredible paranoia. Most often he won't attack the target for extended periods, instead just following the target and tormenting them. This period can last anywhere from several minutes to years.
The behavior of taking organs out or impaling targets has been long forgotten. If his new modus operandi is to be believed, the target is taken away with no traces whatsoever. The target will never be found, nor are any traces. Thus his new method of killing targets is unknown, as no victim is ever found. The victim will typically disappear by him/herself, thus these attacks are unrecorded and unknown. What little camera footage has been found shows incredible distortion on them in typical cases, making it nearly impossible to understand exactly what he has done. To date it is unknown where his victims go, or what he does with them after this.
One of the most powerful new traits Slender Man will typically employ seems to be some form of inhibiting memory loss. Like Slender Sickness, this effect can be nearly immediate just on close contact with him, although it seems to vary as to exactly how powerful. In some cases individuals will forget the past few minutes; however extended contact has led people to awakening in locations they are uncertain of due to running from Slender Man and their brain beginning to write memory and restore consciousness after a given period of time. In some cases, it is believed Slender Man himself will deposit a victim in an unknown location and leave them to awaken after an attack. Leaving them in a random place weakens their morality and sanity. They are more likely to be affected by Slenderman the weaker they are. This effect is akin to Slender Sickness, but is the most powerful effect of the sickness to date.
Victims of extended periods will note excessive damage to their social, physical, and career life. Typically individuals will show massive moods swings and constant irritation, not to mention will lose track of large periods of time, making communication with friends or holding down steady work difficult, as memory losses could be as long as several weeks or months until the individual awakens and attempts to return to their life only to find it ruined. Despite this, Slender Man will continue his behavior.
One interesting fact to note is that not every person is able to see the slenderman. Those who are unable to see it are unaffected by it.
KindvonDerRitter Descriptions/Explainations:
KindVonDerRitter (Son of the Knight) was the young boy who was spared by Slenderman and granted immortality. He often is known to as Second (his real name is not known).
As a young child Second was not accepted and suffered from bullying. He was treated as an outcast and he found freedom in creativity and exploring the near-by forest, which was against the will of the elders in his village.
He can only be killed by someone who sacrifices their own life in the process.
The Shadow Descriptions/Explainations:
This is a cult that worships Slenderman as a god. Their belief and worshiping powers it and without them it would grow weak.
They wear white masks.
The Rake Descriptions/Explainations:
The Rake is an embodiment of souls claimed by slenderman that are unused for the immortality of Second.
It is controlled by Slenderman.
Seven Trials of HABIT:
This concept come directly from the EMH series and will potentially be modified for the story.
Second is running the Trials in order to find a predecessor in the off chance he would die.
People who join these trials receive an invitation email and then get several after which tell them the tasks they must complete to move to the next task. The participants are referred to as Rabbits and are promised vast wealth beyond their belief.
When there are only 20 participants left in the Trials they are told that there can only be 10 at the finale, and those 10 must be the only ones breathing along with the address of each Rabbit listed.
The members of the story join the Trials out of desperation due to lack of clues and the invitation email being sent to all of them the night they were investigating an abandoned cemetery with a cultist linking.
Trials end with the book conclusion (10 rabbits remaining)

Symbols and Meanings:
Majority of these symbols originate from several online sources and have had their meanings modified.

Taking him deep into the woods where he would encounter several young children without faces. He would turn to his daughter, who had her face stolen as well. It was there he discovered that several other parents are having the same hallucinations. Realizing it's more than just hallucinations, they began to investigate what is affecting all of them.
Potential Scenes and Misc. Notes:
1. Charles is at his daughter’s school talking to his teacher when a little kid starts scribbling and won’t stop writing. When he becomes conscious again he looks as his paper and runs out of the room crying. The paper is a Slenderman note.
2. “Hope is a dangerous thing, hope can make a man insane.” –shawshank redemption
3. Colors will be used to represent the motifs of people.
4. Humanity has thought him into creation but he simply cannot be thought out of creation. The only way to kill slenderman is to change him in our minds so he is no longer invincible. (not the concept I will follow but is good to note.)
5. Donnie and Marissa die in a car crash caused by the Shadow when Donnie tried to leave the cult.
6. When Charles finds out the Shadow killed his family he becomes blood thirsty.
7. Roses will be used to represent Slenderman.
8. (Conclusion) Charles tackles Second over a cliff, killing them both. Seconds before Second dies, Slenderman uses pyrokinesis to set the forest on fire in a last ditch effort to protect himself. With Second dead his powers are gone and he is no longer immortal. The remaining characters surround slenderman and bludgeon him to death within the burning forest. Upon Second’s death the proxies are released from their possession and the rake fades into a cloud of dust.
9. Charles, along with his girlfriend, rescues a young child who parents were killed and was kidnapped by the Shadow. After saving the young boy they discover he has no next of kin within the area (his family lives in another country) so they adopt the child.
10. Along with the above conclusion the girlfriend is watching Sean who becomes possessed and attacks her.
11. The main characters find the research of a late doctor who often, in the late 1900s, had her child patients disappear. They discover that she was later convicted as guilty to kidnap even though she was not. The bodies of these children were never found. The doctor went crazy within the prison and was admitted into an insane asylum, where she later committed suicide.
12. Potentially adding a character who kidnaps children in order to encounter Slenderman. (From that youtube movie I watched.)
Reviews:
These are comments I received before the completion of the story that helped me in the process.
1. Firstly, the intro was haunting, helping me vividly imagine the air surrounding a person being chased by a terrifying supernatural monster, the traumatic feelings they would experience...it's all jaw-dropping.
I find this to be a very thought-provoking idea. I mean, usually in the vlogs and the fanfics I've seen about Slenderman, it's always about a teenager or young adult who only hear about lost children and all that. We get what THEY would feel, but it's impossible to imagine what the parents of all these lost children must have felt when they realized their kids might never return, the remaining hope they feel while officials search, and that hope dying when they eventually understand that it's useless to try and hope. With little information and thus no progress, these parents have no reason left to have confidence.
But from what I hear in this story, it sounds like parents finally begin to get SOME sort of information, even though its meaning isn't clear. It MUST give them this spark of hope that no doubt tons of other parents would not gain if they didn't have similar visions, promising that there COULD be answers to their child's disappearance. And when the parents band together after realizing they might all be in the exact same boat...that's where the hunt for answers is on! I'm looking forward to seeing your story start. It sounds very promising.
2. Short lines of text can be used to portray very quick and rushed feel.
3. Read Dan Brown for the cryptic message ideas
4. Read Stephen King for the horror concepts

More Story Notes:

Possible Death Scene (idea from someone online):
Your on the sidewalk and to your right is a woods you're most familiar with and to your left is the street, it's in the morning. Your walking home from god knows where when a fog rolls in. You take no notice of it and continue walking but you start to feel paranoid. As you progress with getting home you start to hear foot falls, and you keep looking behind you but no one is there. Your heart is racing and then you start coughing, you've been sick the last couple of days but this cough struck you strange because you started to cough blood up. You've started running from whoever was after you, and as you ran the fog cleared up and you noticed you were in a forest, now you knew the area around your house and all the woods this was different and unfamiliar. You look back to where the street should have been but nothing is there besides trees, you glace across everything but then your eye come across something that you wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for the way it's face stood out from every thing else. Your vision blurred and you started to run the other way trying to find some place to hide and gather yourself, you soon become tired and you have not found a place so you just put your back up against a tree and try catching your breath. You open your eyes to see a child standing in front of you, it was a little boy. You smiled and ask, "what are you doing here?" he didn't answer just tilted his head and continued to stare at you, "your parents must be worried sick, I'll walk you home if you want." he finally spoke and what he said chilled you to the very core. "You shouldn't run he'll always find you, just give in." you stared at the child wide eyed and he turned to leave and you shouted "don't go!" but he continued walking into the mist where his body disappeared. You stood up and was shaking all over from fear, you started coughing again and more blood came up and after you were finished coughing you look up and there it is again the steps. Step. Step. Step. Step. a slower version of how fast your heart was beating. You were afraid to turn around because you knew it was there whatever it was you just could feel it. You slowly turn your head around and it was closer then before, you could see clearly what it looked like, it was tall, had a black suit on and it's face. It's face was blank all there was, was whiteness. You started running again and you started to tumble and fall because you lost your balance when you took off, you rolled on your back and there it was standing over you. Your eyes widened and you let out a bloodcurdling scream as it picked you up and ran you through one of the trees branches, you could barely breath and blood dripped from your chest onto the ground, your head bobbed around because you were trying to keep it up, but you could hear children singing in the background, and that's when your vision blurred and you could still hear the children singing their eerie song, "we praise the white lord, for embracing us, and ridding us of our problems." News paper articles read that a body was found mutilated on a tree, the organs taken from the body and placed in plastic bags and put back in where had been, a fire followed of the person's home and work place officials say that it was just coincidental that they both happened. People have said that before the body was found they could hear children chanting in the woods.

Potentially include Thomas Nealy’s interview in the book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E25mnVioN1I

Before the end of the book, Charles receives an email from HABIT saying the trial are complete, and there hasn’t been any paranormal experiences as of lately. (this was an effort to lower the guards of the victims.) Charles and his friends who were in the trials as well go to celebrate and Katherine decides to stay behind with Sean.

For the first time in what felt like eternity Katherine relaxed. She sat down on the couch and pressed play on the television remote. She was practically alone, having just laid Sean down to bed. An hour passed when she began to hear footsteps above. Thinking it was just Sean getting out of bed she went upstairs to check on him.
The picture frames that lined the halls were all crooked and several were lying on the floor. Picking them up she walked cautiously towards Seans room. Seans room was half way down the hall. Katherine noted that every picture frame past Sean’s door were in their proper place.
She heard the faint sounds of whispering coming from Sean’s room. “Sean?” She called out knocking on his door. The whispering grew louder but remained constant. She called out again. “Sean?” She knocked harder as the voices exclaimed loudly and everything went silent. The only sound was the faint chirping of crickets from the nearby forest. She went to knock again but the door opened from underneath her hand. She flipped the lights on and peered into the room. It was empty. She walked in and checked closer to the bed, but it was empty. “What the hell…” She said as she turned to walk out of the room. In the door way was Sean, holding his head low and his arms down by his sides. He was muttering to himself in what sounded like another language.

“The three types of terror: The Gross-out: the sight of a severed head tumbling down a flight of stairs, it’s when the lights go out and something green and slimy splatters against your arm. The Horror: the unnatural, spiders the size of bears, the dead waking up and walking around, it’s when the lights go out and something with claws grabs you by the arm. And the last and worse one: Terror, when you come home and notice everything you own had been taken away and replaced by an exact substitute. It’s when the lights go out and you feel something behind you, you hear it, you feel its breath against your ear, but when you turn around, there’s nothing there …” — Stephen King

“When we come face-to-face with the monsters, we may find ourselves looking not at a mask but at a mirror.”

Before the Death of his Wife Marissa, Charles was caught cheating with one of his male co-workers. A divorce was filed but Marissa died before the divorce was finalized. Charles suffers from potential bi-polar and multiple personality disorder (which developes as the story progresses.)

During the story a character is introduced that later is realized as imaginary.

Charles is a hardworking family man who struggles with sexual curiouslity. He prefers to be alone and often goes out on his boat and fishes.

Influence by Dexter (from Dexter) and Light (From Death Note). I want him to be an anti-hero.

This is to ask for interest in the idea, and how many people would read it. I have over 5 pages of notes, that if request I could add to this page. It would be full of spoilers however. I am new to posting creative writing on YCM however. So please help me if I'm doing something wrong.

I'm glad I helped. \ouo/ I'm trying to make my own Slenderman fic, though it's not posted anywhere. In fact, I haven't finished the first chapter yet...nor do I know what events will actually propel the story. XD So it sounds that with 5 pages of notes you're more prepared and qualified than me.

  • 5 months later...

I think you guys will like this. I included most of my notes (I actually believe all of them are there). I am sorry that they are a bit scattered but my mind is currently scattered along with it. Some form of guidance or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

(sorry the spoilers are currently broken, I'll work on fixing that, just wanted the information up.)
