It's difficult to work with pixel focals. For better depth and immersion, more layers are needed: a distinguished foreground, plenty of midground and a background (at the very least). All of the bubbles and sparkles I see as foreground or upper midground elements. It still wants context and a background so that it's not just 'NINETAILS IN SPAAAAACCEEEE'. I'm tempted to use some C4Ds to just flesh it out more; at the moment, it's not bad, but very WIP-ish (definitely is a great framework to add to though).

Not a fan of the near solid red behind the sprite. Since this is an analogous colour scheme, it probably wants some transitional orange to bridge the gap between the yellows of the sprite and the red everything else.
