Sugar Cube Corner - Bronies of YCM

Okay I saw the episode and when did Applejack break the 4th Wall?

It's not that she broke the 4th wall, but it was rather the fact that she broke several laws of physics.  For example, when she walked the farm looking for a hiding Applebloom, she somehow sporadically appeared in the doorway to the left of Applebloom when she was walking towards the other side of the farm.  On top of that, when Applebloom was raking the leaves, a pillow was tied onto the rake literally a half-second later.  Do you know how difficult it is to tie something in that time frame?  It's impossible, even by cartoon standards.

I just chalked those up to comedic timing and what not.

So, it was brought to my attention through the most recent ASK HOTBLOODED PINKIE blog post, but apparently Pinkie has a third sister?

EDIT: So she's from the book My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie and the Rockin' Ponypalooza Party! where she's mentioned. I don't think it gave her name, though, unlike the rest of Pinkie's family.

I don't think they did ever give her a name or, if they did, I don't remember it.

or, y'know, reality-breaking prowess.  My headcanon states that Applejack was able to do what she did because she actually is Pinkie Pie's cousin.

Yeah . . . no. I don't like the idea of Applejack and Pinkie Pie being related because the episode where it's brought up then kind of looses a bit of the importance of the message. "You don't have to be related to be family" kind of looses it's authenticity IF Applejack and Pinkie Pie are related.

And upcoming episode related to Pinkie's sister is titled either "Maud Pie" or "Maude Pie", I don't remember it exactly.

"Maud Pie" and, to be honest, I really do like the idea of having a chance to FINALLY see another family member of Pinkie Pie. We've seen a lot of Rarity and Twilight's family, not to mention Applejack's family is constantly on display, but not so much of Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie.

In fact we've only ever seen Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash's family in flashbacks. So now we're going to get to see a member of the Pie family.

Fluttershy is though the ONLY one we've never seen a family member of.

Maybe she's an only child and an orphan.

That's the thing, we don't know. Even if she is an only child that doesn't mean that she doesn't have parents; and I doubt that she's an orphan to be honest.

I wonder what the wham with Maud will. Pinkie will probably build her up then we find she's just boring and awkward; or just a weirdo

To be honest I think that Pinkie Pie is going to make her sound boring as well until everyone realizes that she's just as fun, or a little bit less, than Pinkie herself.

Okay what is HBPP?

It's the ASK HOTBLOODED PINKIE tumblr blog. Just have a look, it's like Pinkie Pie mixed with every hotblooded mecha show character: http://askhotbloodedpinkie.tumblr.com/

So, bleedman, my favorite artist who does the art for a lot of webcomics I read, has a deviantart of course. He did a commission where he drew the alicorns as bunny girls, I think it's pretty humorous:

Ah okay I ran across that once and to be honest I am not a fan of HBPP. If anything I preferred the comical antics of the AskstheCMC and Princess Molly instead. Not to mention Flufflepuff, who I hear's creator is feeling burned out because of the massive amount of fans wanting more content. Uh . . . guys . . . I'll take an amazing video every month over a crappy one every week.

SNAFU FTW!

Spike Finds a Sand Wand

This is totally not Shameless Self-Advertising, but I wrote this one-shot a few days ago where Spike gets a hold of the Sand Wand from Spirit Tracks.  Anyone mind telling me where I can improve on or what I can do better with?

Let me start out by saying that I love 'The Legend of Zelda' and in NO way mind that this includes elements from said games. That said, let's begin the analysis!!!

Synopsis:

"Spike travels into Saddle Arabia at the request of Twilight Sparkle, who came across a group of scrolls gifted to her by A.K. Yearling.  He ends up coming upon the fabled Sand Wand, a magical artifact that is capable of controlling the forces of sand.  As he comes back home, he was given another request by Twilight to take the wand out for a field test or in his mind, have fun with the Sand Wand.

Contains heavy details from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which is owned by Nintendo."

Plot:

The Synopsis basically gets it down right. Spike finds the Sand Wand in the Saddle Arabian desert and then uses it at Twilight Sparkle's behest. However, this isn't exactly something I can approve on. Now I don't mind that Spike has the Sand Wand, where it was found, or that he uses it. I'm put off by the very fact that Twilight actually ASKS Spike to test the magical instrument without so much as batting an eye.

Characters:

 • Spike

Since Spike doesn't have a "definitive" personality in the canon, being everything from a joke to an actual character, I'm going to have to go off of the popular fandom version of his personality. Which is basically an impish troublemaker who still knows right from wrong and has an intense loyalty to Twilight. This story's Spike is still a bit of a troublemaker but he seems to be a bit too "wordy". Spike in canon and in fandom canon generally never uses big words or speaks, pardon the phrasing, "as a learned dragon". He speaks in a more down-to-earth kind of way so when he says something like "How did this wand come out of a temple and situate itself on some random patch of sand?" it is very off putting to me. If anything he'd just say it wasn't in a temple and be done with it.

 • Garble, Spear, and Chump

We're not bullies but we're totally bullies! Yeah these guys in canon are just rowdy teenagers who act bad because it's "in their nature." Sure in the episode they're we see them do bad things but they also have some sense in their brains. They don't just randomly run up to the Pheonix's nest without a plan. But in here they're shown as basic brainless bullies (say that five times fast) who easily get duped by an obvious trick.

 • Twilight Sparkle

Out of the few characters this story had I have to say how Twilight was represented was the worst. First of all she sends Spike to Saddle Arabia- ALONE! In the same episode we see Garble, Spear, and Chump in we also learn that Twilight would NEVER let Spike go so far away without following him or having someone else go with him. So to make him go alone is absurd. In fact she even sends him to Saddle Arabia without having fully cracked the code on the scroll or knowing what was out there! I mean . . . COME ON!? Not only that but she hardly seems to bat an eye when Spike says how dangerous it was, more interested in the Sand Wand itself and the scroll she's been pouring her attention into. Another thing I didn't like was that Twilight asks Spike to TEST the Sand Wand without knowing what it does. Again, putting him in useless danger without so much as a second thought.

To be honest when I first heard the title "Spike Finds a Sand Wand" I thought it was going to go a little something like this:

 1. Spike finds the Sand Wand, possibly in the Everfree Forest
 2. Spike asks Twilight what it is
 3. Twilight doesn't know and takes it to run tests on despite Spike wanting to keep it, possibly for the gem
 4. Spike takes the Sand Wand and accidentally creates sandy beach-hell for Ponyville
 5. Spike has to solve problem
 6. ????
 7. Profit

So to read the story with the characters acting too out of character and a plot that makes no sense given their characteristics . . . I'm going to have to give this:

CUZ WE TOTALLY DON'T WATCH MLP FOR THE PLOT

Plot . . . there is a Princess Molly joke I can make here but I'mma avoid it.

So, she became a Canterlotian since she left the rock farm?

I kind of get this 'beatnik' vibe off of her. Like she is going to be all gloomy and what not to counteract her sister's hyperactive personality.

So, Pinkie is not only family with Applejack, but with Rarity too?

Pinkie is related with EVERYPONY! No. Exception. (B ')

Plot Twist Maud can somehow use magic and is a relative of Twilight. So that means Pinkie is also realted to Twi, in addition to Rarity- *shot several times*

Plot . . . there is a Princess Molly joke I can make-

Technically, I already kinda' sorta' did.

Don't you dare ninja me.

To be honest I was thoroughly tempted to make a beatnik poem version of Smile right now, but I thought against it.

Go on . . . do it. You know you want too.

Okay guys this idea got stuck in my head and now won't leave me be. The thought is, what if someone made a wish that made Sunset Shimmer a princess instead of Twilight? Think of the repercussions that granting such a wish would make.

First of all for Sunset Shimmer to ever have been eligible to become a princess she'd have to have remained Celestia's student. Not only that but you could argue that the only reason Twilight ever became a princess was because she was groomed to be one by Celestia as her personal student. And the only reason Twilight became Celestia's personal student was because of RD's sonic rainboom, which gave the mane six their cutie marks. So that would also mean the mane six would possibly have never gotten their cutie marks, forever changing their destinies.

(O_O) Woah . . .

Well, SS for one was completely powerhungry so Celestia gave her das boot for the safety of all of Equestria. And Twilight was chosen because she was an absurdly powerful unicorn as when she entered her Trance Mode she could use age spells. Remember that hard to do spell that required a magical amulet? Twilight did it when she was 5.

And the way Cutie Marks work is a sort of self-fulfiling destiny thing. Every pony has their own very specific destiny which is defined by the Cutie Mark they will eventually get. It's their nom de plume in terms of the world, granted some are a bit more multi-talented since Rarity's CM IS in gem finding; which is kinda funny in retrospect since that ability didn't pass onto AJ when she inherited it.

True but again, think of it. The wish, "make Sunset Shimmer a princess" has to be granted. In any way possible. So you maybe don't even need her to have been Celestia's student the entire time. Celestia might have been taken away and, with no bearers of the Elements of Harmony around, Nightmare Moon would've never reverted back to Luna and someone else would've had to rise to the challenge.

Sunset Shimmer, but with help that isn't akin to the Elements of Harmony since we all know she'd probably not be able to use them. My guess would be Discord- the only creature that ever truly owned the royal sisters. Nightmare Moon banished with Discord's help Sunset Shimmer would be the only one capable of being a princess though probably not for long since Discord would most definitely take over.

Still Sunset Shimmer WAS a princess, however brief, and so the wish WAS granted.
