Sugar Cube Corner - Bronies of YCM

You know what's kinda funny? Twilight just off-handedly used what could be one of the most powerful spells in all of Equestria. Think about it, it alters one's shape based on a template. In this case, the Breezies. And it can be used to transform (if RD is right) into things like Gryphons and Dragons. But let's think deeper: What if, the template was Twilight herself; or, even better, Luna or Celestia? By sheer merit of the spell you can alter yourself to become an Alicorn. It is quite literally one of the most powerful spells I have ever really seen in the show and I deeply hope it makes a callback due to being so obscenely powerful.

I think that there is a limit to how that spell works.  For example, the being that is used for the template must not exceed or equal the caster's power.  Though Twilight is an alicorn, she can't turn other ponies into alicorns because the alicorn template is a limit and goes far too complex there.  In order for her to change another pony into an alicorn, she has to willingly give up her alicornhood in order to do so, since that is a limited resource.  Just a theory.

Also, I finally got the hang of playing as Twilight Sparkle on Fighting is Magic.  She is too good since her Sparks and Chapter specials lead into more combos.

I got a hold of playing with Pinkie.  Her Party Press allows her to follow up into another ground to air combo.  While her first Hyper is good to end an aerial combo with, you'd want to go all the way for Pinkamena Hyper Combo, especially since it has the easiest button combination for any Hyper Combo ever, and landing it takes off half of your opponent's health bar.  Unlike other characters, Pinkie Pie cannot regain any magic for her magic meter, so those cannon shots have to be timed well.

I haven't seen the new eipsode yet but I can hazard a few guesses. For starters I'm sure there is a time limit. Also lime Digi said, there has to be a power limit as well; it's possible both are combined. Like if you turned RD into a full grown dragon she'd remain that way for a shorter time than if she was turned into a dragon the same size. From what I've gathered from you guys the spells seems to be just a simple "size alteration" spell mixed with an "illusion spell"- both of which have the same limits as stated earilier.

Anyone try to play online yet?  I got set-up, but I can't seem to find anyone at all to play.

From how I've witnessed the characters play, I think I can the most unholy thing I can do for this: a personal tier list, if that's okay with you.

1 - Twilight Sparkle

2 - Rainbow Dash

3 - Rarity

4 - Pinkie Pie

5 - Fluttershy

6 - Applejack

Twilight Sparkle is a difficult character to play with.  All of her attacks require a good amount of timing to pull off successfully into combos.  However, when she does lead into combos, it's very hard to stop her momentum.  Her book leads into a launch and hit surprisingly hard, her chapter traps work to continue off of the chains and her hyper combos are very easy to chain into.  She can effectively play close-quarters and keep-a-way style.  Best character in the game.

Rainbow Dash rushes into 2nd place with her lightning fast combos and fast-paced play.  She chains and continues combos in such a way that it really isn't funny.  Only thing keeping her from being top is that she is very vulnerable to keep-a-way style play.

Rarity comes in third place with her fabulous ensemble of gem-based magic.  What makes her unique is that she can perform effective combos from the other side of the screen, giving her the best ranged-game out of the six.  She can also get up close and personal and unleash her D Plunge Gem to OTG her opponents into continuing into her combos.  Yet, she lacks in close quarters combat and all of her specials rely on her magic meter being full.

Pinkie Pie falls into 4th place.  While she has a very effective fighting style and has the best air comboability, she lacks a bit in range outside of her party cannon, and it is somewhat unfortunate that her party cannon can have an awkward range, especially against Twilight Sparkle during her reading charge.  Still, she's a very good character to use and a great character for beginners to pick up.  Her teleports and air game are just amazing.

Fluttershy is by far the hardest character to play with for me.  While her assist options are great and can lead to some infinites if done properly, she lacks in range and it can be difficult to solely rely on attacking with just animals.  In the hands of an excellent player with experience on assist-style fighting characters however, Fluttershy can be a very effective character.  She can play stall and keep-a-way very well with her assortment of critters.

Unfortunately, Applejack comes in last place.  Like Rainbow Dash, Applejack does not fare well against keep-a-way style.  Plus, her standard attacks are sluggish enough to be able to counter against them.  While her rope attack is good and continues some very bucking good combos, missing with it will be the last mistake that an Applejack player can do.  However, she does have some very good qualities.  Her knockback is simply astonishing and her versatility in combos makes her monstrous.

I apologize if I made this tiers list, but this is more or less just what I had experience with.

I haven't even been able to get online, on my computer at least, for almost the entire day. Went out to a flea market and ended up scoring an SNES, that works, for $100. It included three games (Mario/Duck Hunt, Some Olympics-style Game, Super Mario 2), two controllers, the gun for Duck Hunt, the pad for the Olympics-style game, and all of the controllers. I bought 'Ghosts & Goblins' and I already had 'Godzilla' so that makes my total games for SNES 5- about the same I have for my Wii and 3DS . . . odd . . .

So I'll get to extracting the program data for 'Fighting is Magic' ASAP.

NOW! Onto the Breezie episode and more so the spell that Twilight used. I can pretty much confirm now that I've seen the episode that the spell seems to be what I thought it was, just an advanced transformation spell. The same spell Twilight was trying to use to turn an apple into an orange in a previous episode.

Well, I suppose it does depend on how the template works. For example, would it turn one type of pony into another one? Such as a Pegasi into a Unicorn and vice-versa for example.

It probably could though as I've been saying probably for a limited time. Those types of spells rarely are permanent, like the illusion spell used on the Royal Guards' armor or the Orange Spell.

Also I don't know if it's just because I'm not using a controller and trying to play with my keyboard but I'm HORRIBLE at "Fighting is Magic" (TT3TT) How do you make it so you can use a controller with your computer?

I downloaded an X-Box 360 Controller Program that allows my computer to read my X-Box 360 Controller.

Also, Breezies will always be weird to me.  It's actually quite difficult to tell apart the males from the females.

I, personally, changed the configuration of the keyboard. When playing 2D games I use the arrows to move and asdzxc for stuff.

I might try that.

Lets face it. The Breezies were just added to the series to promote the toy line. Like Brony C said I wouldn't mind that, I understand Hasbro's main purpose is to sell the toys, but to do it in a key episode is kind of bad.

Though I'd be lying if I said that I didn't like their adorable Swedish/Eastern European accents.

I thought it was Swedish as well or at least Finnish.

No idea what that means or would even do.

At the top of the tabs, there is the options tab.  Click on it and click "Game."  At the bottom of the options, there should be 'Joystick' with an empty box next to it.  Click the box to check it and you can use your controller.

Okay I got myself an X-Box controller and hooked it up to my computer so I can play in 'joystick mode'. And . . . well . . . those AIs are f*cking impossible to beat! I don't know if I'm just bad at these types of fighting games or if they're on Level 9 of 9 in difficulty but I can't seem to beat them!

I am doing better now that I've got the controller to play on, but I'm still loosing every single match. BTW, Applejack seems to be the one I can play the most.

When I saw Eastern Europe I basically meant west of France. I don't know where the line is

Same here but I still think they sound Finnish/Swedish

All caught up now.

Return of Flutterguy was great, though Bats is still the best FS episode ever. I like how the significance of one of the royal family living in Ponyville has actually been shown. About halfway through the last episode, I realized who the breezies reminded me of:

Also, Twilight and her OP magic again. The most recent Friendship is Dragons strip has also reminded me that she can do crazy stuff like control fire.

Currently been playing as Rainbow Dash in Fighting is Magic, though I still need lots of practice, and actually need to figure out how to tech and stuff. On a plus note, the game has made me play more Skullgirls, which I'm considerably better at.

Out of curiosity, does Fighting is Magic actually have an AI system, or is it purely online?

It has an AI system.  The AI is actually good for practice.

You can't change the AI, so it more or less forces you to learn how to play your character.  I've already learned up on Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie.  However, I like playing Rarity the most.

I do like Seabreeze's accent, and I really do like how much the episode shoehorned that Seabreeze was a guy.  I need to try Skullgirls one of these days.

I never played Skullgirls, but it always had my attention. I just like it.

Anyways, Fighting is Magic will end up using the same engine as Skullgirls, so they end up being more similar. I wonder if the final boss will be something like an (non-pony) unicorn, a rhyno, elephant, or buffalo. Some big ungulate will surely be the best option.

About this version, I hope someone can add more stuff to it. Someone who can do all the job of programming and balancing more characters.
