YCM's Secret Anime Give-Away (Summer 2013) [Done]

Recommended Posts

I watched Steins Gate.

The first 3-4 episodes had me reeling at how none of it made sense. As the anime went on though, it explained in great detail as well as developed the characters really well. It's a unique twist on the subject it chose, I'd say it's on par with Doctor Who on the topic. Anyway a great watch and glad to add it to my list.

Please gifter, may I please have another?

I would still like a different anime besides Claymore!, because its not very interesting, although, when i watched 5 minutes of it, it screamed "Seen it!", then again I was probably too picky. But, I just finished Clannad! :) I'm probably gonna watch After Story starting tommorrow... Which series is more depressing and/or better between the two? Clannad got #7 on my list, so I was wondering if the sequel is better. Btw I still want another anime... Edit: By my giver. Edit 2: Don't spoil who you are...

Afterstory is unanimously considered much, much better.

I watched AnoHana.

Mostly nothing besides some of the later half was funny to me. But that's okay because that isn't really what it's supposed to do. It got more emotional the further I watched, but I only got teary on ep 7/8. The characters were really believable and so was the drama. This is definitely not some random and sudden drama at the end of a series, and the atmosphere was perfect. I very much know what it feels like to lose someone you love, so like I said, I really found it for the most part believable, especially if I'm comparing it to most other anime out there. Desregarding whether you believe in ghosts and stuff, I mean.

The only reason I'm not asking for another short one if because while I do like this whole idea, I do already know what I want to watch next.

I'm about halfway through Fate/Zero. I'd usually have finished by now, but someone got hurt at my work and I've been covering for them, coupled with other things, so I haven't had much time .3. I like it so far, but I think it may have been drastically over hyped for me, as I don't seem to be getting the same love for it as most of it's fans seem to have. There's not really any characters I don't like yet (aside from Caster and Uryu >3> Child killing bastards) but we'll see how things progress. Oh, and I can't get over how much Lancer looks like Zack Fair .3.

They didn't have to always succeed in saving the person either, it would have made for good psychological drama.

You gotta take into account that this was based on a popular game though too. So unless characters died in the game they can't kill them in the anime. At least not without every fan on the planet writing them hatemail and sending anthrax envelopes in.

Finshed Deadman Wonderland

Deadman Wonderland Anime Review

Aside from the humor I didn't like this anime very much. It didn't have the soul that he manga does and ended with me board out of my mind. I mean, there's nothing else I can really say about it. It follows the manga well but just without much life. it's ending point was also rather bad in my opinion.

Well, took me longer than I'd hoped it would, but I finished Fate/Zero.

To be honest, it was overhyped for me. Don't get me wrong, it was still an amazing show that I plan on buying as soon as I can, but the amount of hype people gave it kinda ruined it for me. The whole story was pretty original in my opinion, and had a lot going for it. Unfortunately the ending was... well, it left me unsatisfied. I know it was a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, but I think it probably would have done better as a stand alone from the rest of the series solely because it could end without needing to set up for Fate/Stay Night.

The characters in it were all well done and got about as much development as I'd wanted from each of them, with the exception of one Kirei Kotomine, as they never explained why the way he was. Each of them were unique and lovable in some way or another as well, whether it was Rider who stole every ounce of attention I had when he appeared because of his charisma and sheer badassity or Lancer and his struggling attempts to remain loyal and chivalrous when his Masters wife decides she wants in his pants, there's a story to all of them.

There's a lot more I have to say on this, as I found myself thinking quite a bit about it once I finished, but I believe I plan on releasing it in the form of an actual YouTube review. So last thing I'll say, is that I really enjoyed Fate/Zero and would recommend that if you're interested and haven't seen it yet that you not only go watch it, but go buy it. Otherwise, the entire series is free to watch on Crunchyroll. Final score: 9/10

I'll take another anime, but would like it to be 12-13 episodes max .3.

Aaaand I finished Spice & Wolf.

I will say that it exceeded my expectations for it, but not by much. The economical background that resolved around the story was interesting at times, but got a little boring at other times. The thing I liked most was probably the main character Lawrence. Believe it or not, I liked him most because of how normal he was. He didn't have anything particularly special about him at all. He was just a merchant trying to make a living, and just happened to encounter a wolf spirit. The animation was fairly decent too. If anything about Spice & Wolf interests you, I would recommend to just stream it, since it was nothing really special (in my opinion). It's available for free via Funimations YouTube channel too, but if you're not into a show that bases most of it's plot on economics, I would recommend you just skip over this.

Final Score: 6.5/10
