Pacific Rim

There's a difference between a trained martial artist and a giant sea monster from a different dimension.  If they knew how to disarm weapons then shouldn't they kaijuu know akido and snap the jaeger's limbs?  If I was fighting an untrained opponent I would brawl up close yes, but I would push them away create space then draw a knife forsay and go in for a strike.

The only problem with fighting a kaiju, in your respect, is that you can't just push away a 2,500-ish Ton creature all that easily.

And the kaiju were getting increasingly intelligent over time.  Knifehead (Category 3 fought before main time skip) specifically aimed its attacks in an attempt to kill the pilots.  It aimed for the head; no other kaiju had done anything like that prior.

Overthinking it entirely guys.

My only gripe with the film was that a few characters were criminally underdeveloped, especially the ones that were killed off.

But yeah, you can't say, "They should have just done this."  It's fiction.  You can't just decide what would have happened if something had been done like this or that.

The thing about Pacific Rim is that it details the later days of the war against the Kaiju.  I understand your point about the criminally underdeveloped characters though.  Guillermo did release a prequel comic prior to the movie, talking in more detail about the earlier years of the war against the Kaiju.  It's possible he'll go into more detail with the other Jaeger pilots from the movie.

Actually I'm a trained martial artist?  i'm saying there are scenes where the Gypsy danger has time to pick up a ship and bat the Kaiju away.  Surely that time he can deploy a sword and look to finish him?

Trained martial artist =/= actually having been in a fight.  I'm not talking about sparring either.  I used to take martial arts, and didn't understand until I got in an actual fist fight  An actual fight where your life is in danger you act upon instinct and not pure logic.  That's just how it is.

Either way, saw it again, still a great movie.  Makes me excited for the sequel and Godzilla.
