Archfiend of Gilfer

Recommended Posts

I think this card is pretty cool, since they can't really get rid of it without having it equip itself again, and it's easy to search, not that Trick is a thing, and since it's Level 6, it can do some good things for Archfiends. It really helps getting around a bunch of stuff, you wouldn't know how useful it is at times. Only tech 1, I don't think more is a good idea, but it's pretty cool how it can work with Pandemonium as well, making an infinite engine if you can play it right.

I find it to be a pretty flavorful card that I overall enjoy, but it's uses are sadly outclassed.

It misses the timing so you are limited when it comes to it's applications. However it kinda makes up for it by being triggered from anywhere. Even by MSTing it.

It could work wonders with Double Cyclone if MST wasn't as much of a meh tech that completely outclasses it anyways. On the bright side, it would at least help you change that designated target out of the blue. Once again, it's FUN to think about it's applications, but that's about it.

Malevolent Catastrophe, Foolish Burial, Card Destruction, Archifiend's Roar.

Call of the Haunted returned with Zephyros' effect will probably trigger it upon self destruction by Call's effect, too.

Not to mention Archfiend Support like Falling Down.

Given a choice in casual ways though, I've found Needle Sunfish more suitable for me though. It's not as recyclable by itself, but it does have support like Salvage, Crane Crane, and triggering it when detaching it is priceless.

Well Needle Sunfish doesn't help an Archetype all that much, sure it's more usable than this, since this is a Level 6, but still, this does suppor them, and makes them able to draw again and again if needed. I asked if it would work with detaching, and it didn't seem like it, which is kinda sad, but I still think its ok

You asked that? I must be getting kinda sleepy then.

No Gilfer mostly doesn't work when detached. Mainly because detaching is usually a cost, which is always followed by an effect, but Gilfer touching the Graveyard must be the last thing to happen for it to work. You could technically make it work if the detach didn't result in another reaction. Kinda like Acid Golem that just does it and that's it.

Nono, I meant I asked in the YGO Rulings Questions thread, just before I posted this, since I am trying this card out, and I was wondering what happened when you detached it, I appear to be wrong about my thinking of how it worked.

Pretty sure this thing+woodland spirit was why we got missng the timing.

They could just ban Woodland Sprite. Would be funny if a card was released that could return itself to the hand when sent to the Graveyard that didn't miss the timing. Though, Konami probably knowns of Woodland Sprite and the issues that would create, so probably won't happen, or it will have a OPT clause on it at least.
