I'm going to assume that Astro is referencing the idea that we get an idea of what Alain's full team is, but as I have not watched the episode at this time (because it's past 2 am in the morning), cannot confirm. But otherwise, I have no idea how the two are even related either.

Would like Ash to win this time, but runner-up status is acceptable otherwise.

Well we only know two of Alain's mons, and I don't think we'll see any more of his team until the battle starts imo.

Also, @Sakura, you like the pic in the GPT thread (which was essentially poking fun at myself)?

[spoiler=Thoughts on XY128]

- We see the stat debuff that King's Shield gives when Pikachu tried attacking with Iron Tail, and it was rather ingenious of Pikachu to knock some wood into the shield to prevent Aegislash from performing the move shortly before its demise.

- It's nice to see the stadium switch when one side is down 3 pokemon gimmick return, been a good while since that has happened.

- I've seen one simultaneous knockout on a number of occasions in a battle, but not two.

Preview:

- So we have another incident like the one in BW105 although in this situation they're searching for Clemont's Chespin, and it doesn't help that Manon's Chespin is running about as well. (at least we now know that it has recovered now)

I wouldn't be surprised if Alain won tbph.

How is that comparable to this though? I just don't see it tbph.

Well, we get a sneak peek at the rest of Alain's team, Ash's friends meet Marin, Alain's motivation, and Ash himself meets Lysandre, Alain's boss. Remember, the battle itself will not happen until 2 weeks from now.

Oh and Lysandre can give the whole "In a perfect world, we all get what we want." speech. And oddly, Lysandre will wish both Ash and Alain luck.

I still don't see the rest of Alain's team being revealed until the battle starts tbph, so expect to wait the 2 weeks before we see any more of Alain's pokemon.

EDIT: We have broadcast data for the next few episodes

XYZ36: Chespin

XYZ37: Metagross

XYZ38: Charizard

XYZ39: Houndour

XYZ40: Zygarde

XYZ41: Malamar

XYZ42: Lucario

XYZ43: Greninja

I think it's great that we're probs gonna get proper closure to the Malamar thing from like 70 episodes ago. Perhaps my hypothesis was right and that they're connected to Team Flare.

Good battle. The only fight that wasn't super interesting was the Goodra one. The other 3 were all good, the the main event being as good as advertised. Also, that shot with Serena at the end. Holy hell, the ship is too real.

Interesting that next week is a down episode, but I'm cool with it since it seems to be setting up some important stuff. Also sad that we won't see any of Ash's older Pokemon. O well.

Interesting that Lucario is one of the Pokemon Quiz Pokemon. Curious if that means Korrina will show up again.

Real nice battle, only complaints are Goodra fight being kind of uninteresting and not really feeling Greninja was ever really struggling to match Sceptile. Not much, anyway, but it's a minor nitpick.

Also I rlly like that bit of animation they use of Shota where he sweeps his arm through the air while ordering moves, it just looks real nice.

Yeah, neither Goodra or Slurpuff moved very far from their positions during their fight.

One of the things that has impressed me about the series is the animation is solid. It isn't going to win any awards, but it still a good looking anime, especially considering they put out an episode nearly every week.

Yeah, neither Goodra or Slurpuff moved very far from their positions during their fight.

It at least makes sense for Goodra. Goodra is a tank, so it isn't going to do a whole lot of moving. Slurpuff isn't the most mobile Pokemon either, but it at least isn't giant.

And yea, I have to imagine one of the reason that fight was so weak is because it just wasn't as dynamic since the battles look best when a lot of movement is going on.

I'd say out of all the fights between the two episodes, Goodra/Slurpuff was the weakest.

Like I said, battles (really this applies for any series) are at their best when you have a lot of movement. It makes the fight more dynamic and is more visually interesting. From an animation perspective it is likely part of the reason Ash used high mobility Pokemon, you can do more visually interesting things with them.

I agree, not that I was saying that there's anything wrong with tanks or anything.

Of course not. They just need more work to be visually interesting. I'm sure a bunch of example exist of less mobile fight scenes that are amazing to watch.

Sure there could be more work done to make them more visually interesting as long as the overall quality doesn't suffer in the end.

As for examples of less mobile fight scenes (across all genres of anime), I can't really think of any from the top of my head.

[spoiler=XY128 (and previews)]

  • Aside from Goodra vs Slurpuff, rest of the fights were good (even if one of them was a double KO). Final one was epic though.
  • Ash managed to block Aegislash from using King's Shield with wood; well, that's one way to screw it over from doing that. (To be fair, that's pretty much what it does anyway; King's Shield to soften opponent, then attack)
  • Mega water shuriken was amazing.
  • I did see Alain smirk after Ash won, so either something's up or he's just happy that Ash will be a good challenge to him in the finals.
  • Oh, we see Mairin/Manon in the next episode; should be nice.

You guys may be right. And as for the battle, the third time may be the charm.

And in Dub news Wulfric will speak in English on August 20th, my anime playthrough of Y will resume then. After the intro, I'll go to Pokemon Village, gather what I can, then do some breeding and trading between X and Y and finally, the Gym Battle on September 3rd. As for E4 voices, Malva and Siebold's I'll try to emulate, but as for Wikstrom, I think I'll apply a Travis Willingham feel and for Drasna... Maybe Rachel Lillis.

I highly doubt Alain knows what Lysandre is up to. I mean, you can easily argue that Chespin's recovery gives Alain more reason to trust him. Going to be really interesting to see how he reacts when Flare's plan starts up.

I agree, I'm sure Lysandre has kept things from Alain as well.

EDIT: In other news, the first episode of the Kalos League arc has now been subbed.
