The female's hat is weird though, but yeah this will probably be her attire in Gen 7 (whatever the default name for her is in Sun/Moon). Assuming that Ash gets a new companion next generation, which he likely will.

Although, by doing that, AmourShipping is getting screwed if Serena decides to pursue her dreams at the end of the series.

See, I'm curious what Serena would do if she stayed in Kalos. We don't know how often they do the Master Class contest and what not so if she can't compete in a year she could travel with Ash still. Though honestly, the most likely way for her to keep traveling with him is if Alola has performances or something too.

Also, it might be because Litten reminds of Ryuko from Kill La Kill but something about the female player character's face and hair makes me think of Mako. Though maybe its just the fan art I've come across.

We'll just have to see what the region will give us (then again, X/Y never gave us Showcases in-game [though likely because only girls can compete; still wondering what a male version would look like or Pokemon League is generally that]).

Suppose Serena could stay on for more than one region without taking breaks; Misty apparently did with Ash in the original series (Kanto/Johto), though I may be wrong about it since I haven't watched a good chunk of that part.

The only female companion to last more than one series was Misty. May left to explore Johto, Dawn stays in behind so Buneary could be a model, and Iris wanted to go to Black Thorn or something.

Speaking of Iris, hopefully she doesn't come back in X/Y (likely not since her approval rating wasn't that great in B/W if I remember). And yeah, I think Iris wanted to go to Blackthorn so she left (can't remember if they went all the way back to Kanto or somewhere in Unova; think the former).

I wouldn't mind her coming back simply because it would be pretty sad. Also REALLY telling how unpopular she was since she would be the first female companion to not return. We have like 26 episodes left so we are running out of time.

Very true.

Also, curious what you all think of the female trainer's base character design. Since we are 50/50 on the female player character joining Ash, her base design is pretty important. Personally I'm not a big fan, but I might be in the minority.

Her hat is the only aspect of the female design I don't like tbph.

I'm sure there are others who don't hate Iris. I suppose you could describe her as a marmite character, anime-wise that is. (Though having said that in BW2 her team can be challenging to deal with) My dislike for Iris came from the anime, I didn't mind her in the BW games.

Am I the only one who doesn't hate Iris?

Nope. I like her too.

That aside,  I doubt they would air another new Pokemon anime season in time for the game to come out. Give it like a month after the release, then they'll add it. And with this, new anime, this will make at least +1,000 episodes. Still, Sazae-san may have 7 or 8 times that much.

It boggles my mind how you doubt the Sun/Moon anime will begin to coincide with its release when it's been happening since Johto (though Johto began a month before GS came out), but hey it's your opinion.

Anywho;

[spoiler=Thoughts on XY119]

- It's nice to see Ash finally lose to Shota. We all wanted to see it happen, and he even fails at activating Ash-Greninja.

- Though I'm surprised Shota is travelling with the gang as they head towards Snowbelle

Yeah, considering SAWYER already got the Iceberg Badge.

Also, my guess is Magearna is pokemon 722. With the newbies:

Howlet is number 723, Litten is number 726 and Popplio number 729.

But Ash and crew are now in Snowbelle City.

Also, the raw, that be understandable, the Dub we need to wait until Feb 2017.

I think Rowlet will be 722, I don't think they'll pull another Victini on us and have Magearna's dex number before the starters.

Ofc I'll be watching the series Raw/Subbed, which saves me having to wait till April 2017 at the earliest to see it on TV.

As for Shota,

[spoiler=spoiler]

me and a friend agreed Ash had no business beating him seeing as Shota has more badges than him.

[spoiler=response]

Wow, interesting that he fails at that. Curious what actually happens now. Though I agree its nice to see him win since as I was saying earlier it actually makes their inevitable league battle have some tension to it.

Cool to see him stick around. I always enjoy when the side characters get to stick around for a little extra time.

I can also get where you guys are coming from with the badges. Its not a 1 for 1 indication of things, but its a solid one. Personally the most interesting thing for me is Shota's growth rate.

[spoiler=Obligatory Response]

Especially since by that point his Sceptile should be able to Mega Evolve by then, that and his team will probs be fully evolved too. I did say that Aegislash will probs have its TV debut at the league, but yeah Ash's loss gives him something to aim for when they battle at the league. As for him sticking around, I agree it is nice to see him stick around a little while longer. As for Shota's growth rate, it is interesting at how much he's grown since his debut especially since when he was introduced our opinion on him was so much different.

I think the tipping point for Shota came from the writers realizing Ash didn't have a real rival. They tried with Tierno, but for what ever reason they didn't like him and decided to really push Shota instead. Though I feel like they might have planned to use him as the main rival since they came up with his character.

With the direction they took with Tierno's character, it didn't feel like he was going to be Ash's main rival, hence the need to push Shota as a character. Though I remember we were of differing opinions when Shota was introduced; for example you said it'd have been weird if Shota ended up as the rival as well as thinking he wouldn't get to the league, so it's nice to see your opinion on him develop just like Shota's character.

They writers did a good job handling him. He's a likable character and his semi-frequent use since his induction has really allowed them to show that and his grow. Only two rivals that I'd put ahead of him are Gary and Paul and both of them had a whole series (2 for Gary) to develop while Shota only showed up in the back half of XYZ.

I do still stand by me saying Ash shouldn't lose to him in the league. No matter how much better he is a starting trainer still doesn't feel like the type of person to beat Ash when it actually matters.

Ash shouldn't, but that depends on whether or not he trains his team enough to actually deal with the Kalos league. (And yes, he still needs a 6th 'mon). I will admit that Shota got a lot better since he was introduced.

[spoiler=119 thoughts]

  • First time Ash-Greninja failed, but appeared to be Ash losing his focus when he saw what Greninja was doing from its eyes. That cost him the win, albeit Ash did knock out 2 of his other 'mons first.
  • Shota's going with them to Eisetsu/Snowbelle? Hmm, this will be interesting.
  • No Team Rocket this episode; I like that (Team Flare had some screentime)

I checked out some of the pictures of the episode on Serebii and the look on Ash's face at the end of the episode speaks volumes. Really want to see like all of the new episodes since they all seem really interesting. The subs are only taking longer and longer to come out. Hell, the raw for the new episode isn't even up on the site I use. Right when the anime starts getting really really good the subs become molasses.
