UGH! Okay show of hands: Who here was hoping Olympia would appear in more than one episode and have her character fleshed out?

However Olympia takes this to the next level. The correct question to ask here would be "Olympia, who's that again?" And I wouldn't be able to answer because, to be honest, I don't even know who this person is. It really goes to show how unmemorable you are when I'm looking up candidates for this list and I'm surprised to see you next to the rest of the gym leaders.

 

Literally, the only thing Olympia has going for her is a decently pretty gym. Beyond that, there is nothing interesting to speak of.

 

Her character? What character? She just stands there being all "I'm psychic and therefore I have to be mellow as f***. Whant to fight?"
 

And even for this game's standards, her team is really weak. Sigilyph and Slowking are really good choices but her signature pokemon is a g****** Meowstic, a pokemon you've already seen before being used by another boss character, your rival. It's not special and it goes down without a hitch.

 

And when you're done you'll probably forget that this character, this gym and this battle ever happened. Her design is pretty cool though."

I was hoping the anime would give her more character but I guess, as usual, I was wrong. Plus, we haven't seen a One-Episode Gym Leader battle since Bugsy WAYYYYYYYYYY back in Gen II. And the fact it's a double battle... This is like Tate and Liza all over again.

Okay, saw the preview today, day late I know, but anyway, I am glad Olympia will appear in more than one episode.

Judging from the preview I say Prof. Sycamore and co. return to analyze the Anistar sundial, however a cultist who believes that the sundial has mystical powers and should not be defiled stops them.

If you watched the preview carefully you'd see Team Rocket's Balloon on top of the sundial, so I'd expect that the woman was attacking Sycamore and his researchers because she probs thought they were with TR and wouldn't listen to reason (hence the attack on Ash and co).

As we know by now, Sycamore has nothing to do with Team Rocket, but the woman in question doesn't know that.

We'll see what she does next week, but we know Olympia comes around and supposedly diffuses her or something.

 

Oh, and episode thoughts on yesterday's (it's 1 in the morning Friday)

• Didn't expect there'd be a quiz in this one, but suppose the title was enough of a giveaway for that. TBH, I was thinking to self "are they doing a Showcase or a commencement ceremony" when I saw their clothes.
• Eevee managed to cause a bit of commotion this episode; suppose it's going to take a while before it gets over being shy.
• Serena won, which is good for her.
• We know that girl from episode 50 showed up, and got the first question wrong (I think it was asking the name of Eevee's Fairy evolution; she said Espy, which is not the answer).

 

Now I wonder if there's an equivalent for males (though I would expect it to be more battle-oriented if it were).

That woman will also serve as judge between the battle between Ash and Olympia.

 

Speaking of, even though this may be early, but I had an epiphany as to who Olympia's English VA should be:

 

Karen Neill, the voice of Roxanne, Karai, Caroline and Ishizu Ishtar. Just ponder the signs:

 

Mystic, tanned skin, cryptic. Heck, Olympia could be Ishizu.

 

Anyway, this is just a thought, and it is early, please don't chew me out for this.

Yeah, it is a bit too early to think about that. She hasn't even debuted in Japan yet.

 

Also, worthless trivia time; a number of the performers in this showcase had previously entered the Coumarine and Dendemille showcases.

Serena is only 1 key away from the Grand Showcase. Excitement abound.

 

Plus, they gonna call the Zygarde Core "Squishy"

Also I wouldn't be surprised if Serena loses her next showcase (by a tiny margin) before getting her 3rd Princess Key. Though knowing the writers, they'll probs have Serena win the next one as well

We'll see what happens with Serena's last key, but yeah I suspect they'll push her through all of them.

(Let's see, Haruka and Hikari both had more than one contest loss during their careers; Serena has that one where she miscalculated Fennekin's bow length and she tripped)

 

Then again, assuming things are like contests from Gen 3/4, Jessie is likely going to win some keys off-screen if writers want to push her in there as well.

Although I probably wouldn't care if she doesn't make it.

The reason why I thought that maybe they could have Serena lose her next showcase is because Dawn and May didn't have flawless runs on their way to the Grand Festival, they lost a contest along the way to getting all 5 ribbons, so if they had Serena win her next Showcase then it'd be different to the other two. Of course the main reason why I wanted to see Serena lose her next showcase because it'd help flesh out/lengthen the series.

Unlikely. All the anime shifts coincide with Gen releases. Gen 7 is happening in 2017 meaning for better or worse the XYZ anime will last until then. Assuming a Q3 release for Gen 7 that leaves us with about 2 years worth of content. The Flare and Zygarde stuff should be about 6 months worth of material and when you add in the last badge, last contest, and the two big leagues it should be able to carry us into 2017. The question is those last 10 months and if we'll get a bunch of filler extra like what happened with DP (though as previously stated the pacing here has been MUCH faster than that and slowing down that much would be unwise) or if we'll get a secondary arc after the league like in Gen 3 and Gen 5. Personally I'm hoping for something along the lines of Gen 3 where they revisit an earlier region and with the 20th anniversary happening next year I'm hoping for Ash to take another trip through Kanto.

Yeah, the Gen 5 companions weren't the best in the world, and I said many times before that I really didn't care much for Iris.

With regards to the 20th Anniversary thing, instead of going through Kanto, they could travel though the Sevii Islands and have a plot there. I mean other than Island 1 (seen in Chronicles), we haven't really seen the Sevii Islands in the anime and we know that the Islands were present in FRLG.

To be fair the only region we were at least recently is Johto, so even with the return trip its not like we were their recently. (I'm disuniting the 1 off episodes for when Ash returns home). I know Gen 1ers can be bad, but have they been worse this gen? I know the only reason I'm personally interested in returning to Gen 1 stuff is because G/B/R/Y are rife with issues and I want to revisit that more than anything.

 

Kalos will be the spot light for a while still. We still have Z coming (both the anime and game) and the anime looks to be staying in place for at least the next year. Again, the thing I most interested in is what they will do after the League is finished since I can't imagine that last the full 2 years that we'll have until next Gen. Gen 3 has the Kanto revisit, Gen 4 had butt loads of filler, and Gen 5 was just a year shorter. Of those my vote is for another region revisit and Gen 1 and 3 are the more likely ones.

This is why I suggested going to the Sevii Islands, because technically they haven't visited them in the anime (except from that 1 episode in Chronicles) and I liked the plot surrounding them in the Adventures manga.

It would somewhat tie in with the 20th anniversary as they were added in the Kanto remakes and it'd be new for the viewers who haven't necessarily played FRLG.

As you know by now, Astro, Iris wasn't exactly a likeable female companion.

So yeah, don't expect too many others to share your hope that she reappears.

 

(Unlike the other four female leads, I'm rather neutral on Iris [game version is fine]. Cilan was meh)

 

I wouldn't mind seeing Haruka and Hikari return though for a while though.

Ok, British, I know Astro can be a little annoying with his antics, but do you have to pick up on him even when he's stating his opinion like a normal person? And if you feel he's been misbehaving a lot on this thread, why don't you report him to a mod again, instead of spouting passive-agressive comments at him all the time? It's got to the point where you've become just as grating as him, TBQH.

While it is true that I've done it more than anyone else on the forum and you're pointing the finger at me specifically because it's more convenient, but I don't think I have become as irritating as him, and if you think so well it's your opinion and I reckon at this point in order for me to change that, I have to stop doing it and I believe that's easier said than done, even though it can easily be done. On the subject of misbehaving, he hasn't done it in ages so I see no reason to report it to the mods (Having said that,  I saw someone in the Arc-V thread post a 1 word post which was responded to and after refreshing the page it was deleted, as irrelevant as that sounds), and ofc the last time that happened, quite a few people chewed him out on it.

The reason why I'm so worried about the way you react to AD is that I'm starting to suspect he's got a special condition of some sort - and that makes your responses seem harsher than they should be. We should find a way to deal with the AD issue once and for all - to make him finally realize how inconvenient he's being. But I honestly don't think your current methods are working.

Whilst you are talking about special conditions n' junk, now don't bash me for saying this (even though I will anyway as it's no reason to defend my point); I will admit I have one myself (and I was surprised a few users on here have the same condition), Asperger's. I will admit I often say things without thinking of the consequences, but I'm trying to change that. I suppose we could have a mod (ie Flame Dragon or Sakura as they post in this thread) calmly explain how much of an inconvenience AD is being.

 

I will say this though, going back to the topic at hand towards the beginning of the page about filling the gap and 20th anniversary, I did have a legit suggestion, yet I feel it was ignored, reminder as to what it was.
