Pokemon XY&Z

Recommended Posts

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Best Wishes series if I'm honest, it did seem like a step back.

For the most part, DP is worth watching though.

Good to know my feeling isn't off then. Very happy that XY has been of such high quality.

If I ever find the time I'll watch DP. Seems like its doing a lot of cool thing. Would you recommend the dub?

Indeed, I quite appreciated the choice of BG music when Ash was saying goodbye to Goodra. It almost brought a tear to my eye.

I can't remember there being much difference between the dub or subs tbh, apart from the obvious (like BG music for example)

Although, even though he only appeared in like a handful of episodes in DP, Gary had the same VA that he had in the 4Kids days.

[spoiler=Thoughts on XY070]

So we know from the last episode that Team Rocket had more-or-less blackmailed Team Rocket to do as they say, ofc this was a ploy so they can drain the water, causing irrepairable damage to the wetlands. At least Goodra restored the terrain with Rain Dance.

It was nice to see Florges and her army put aside their differences with Goodra and co to defeat Team Rocket and pretty much accepting each other's company after Floette had recovered.

The BG music that played when Ash said goodbye to Goodra was well chosen imo. It almost brought a tear to my eye.

The same can be said for when Serena has her break down after she lost her debut and cuts her hair. That was a remix of AZ's theme. I've said it a number of times now, the use of the in game music has been amazing.

Noted. I've tried watching some dub stuff and the ton just felt off. Maybe if a start from an actual starting point and watch a bunch I'll slowly adjust.

Indeed, for certain scenes like the ones we listed in the above two posts, the choice of music had been carefully chosen so that viewers could appreciate it. Gotta give kudos to Nintendo for that.

For the record, Best Wishes or BW, was the first time Ash adapted to Tajiri's new art style. Not just him, but his mom, Misty, and a few others. Plus, I liked Iris. I hope she makes a return before XY comes to an end.

I admit it was sad to have Ash say goodbye to Goodra. It was like Pidgeot all over again. But it was expected. Goodra wouldn't have stood a chance against Valerie's Fairy types or Wulfric's Ice types. I hope he gets an Aegislash. Or at least a Honedge.

And also, we haven't seen the Glam Nazi's yet. Is Team Rocket gonna take over the Poke-ball factory? Have they taken over for Team Flare?

Even past that, the anime makes heavy use of the themes from XY. Battles often use the battle themes for example.

Ash has never really cared if his pokemon didn't match up well against a gym's type.

My guess is Team Flare will get its own story arc at the end. Similar to what they did with Team Plasma in BW. What I'm excited to see from this is that its likely when Alain will enter the main series thanks to his ties to Lysandre.

For the record, the art style wasn't what I disliked about Best Wishes though.

I couldn't care less about Iris tbh. I hope she doesn't return. (Though I don't think she has any business returning, without GOOD reason, and I mean really good)

Goodra wouldn't have stood a chance against Valerie's Fairy types or Wulfric's Ice types.

Because Ash is dumb enough to send a dragon-type against Fairies or Ice-types. He isn't as dumb as he was in previous series.

Personally I'd compare Goodra's release to Lapras and/or Butterfree. (Speaking of Lapras, that was the last time Ash formally released a pokemon and that was 768 episodes ago)

Comparison to Lapras:

- Both Goomy and Lapras were far from home and were both returned to their friends at the end of their respective story arcs.

Comparison to Butterfree:

- Both were caught in their first stage and fully evolved quite quickly

- Both were the first of Ash's pokemon to fully evolve in their respective regions

- Both defeated Team Rocket in the episodes they were caught in after Pikachu and Ash's bird were unable to do so

- Both were on Ash's team during two of his gym battles and only participated in one of them.

- Both were released to stay with the pokemon they care about and were both released in their respective regions.

Even past that, the anime makes heavy use of the themes from XY. Battles often use the battle themes for example.

True dat.

Ash has never really cared if his pokemon didn't match up well against a gym's type.

One notable example I can remember from the top of my head being his battle against Roark when he used Pikachu and Aipom. (Though both had moves that were SE against rock)

Let's just hope the writers give them a fight sometime before the series ends.

[spoiler=70]

  • Goodra got released, but knew that already.
  • Was expected another fight between Goodra and Florges, but those two paired up to fight Team Rocket.
  • Team Rocket responsible for draining the lake and other things. Yeah, if something happens, it's likely their fault.
    • Seriously, I wouldn't give a damn if they got cut from the series; they've overextended their novelty time.
    • Getting worked up over Team Rocket's appearances, but probably it's due to having to see them in every series.
  • Floette got healthy, so that's good.
  • Feels moment when Ash decided to formally release Goodra. Honestly, still peeved that Ash did it, but given the context, probably for the best.
  • At least Goodra/Florges get along now, so things should be peaceful on Route 14. Hopefully Ash visits Goodra someday in this series.

Remember that is a rumour (and merchandise isn't necessarily an indicator of what will happen in the anime), it might not even happen and I recall Faytality saying that Ash doesn't necessarily need a mega and that giving him a mega would be bad idea and a powerhouse shortcut.

Fine, just something to spitball. BTW, It'll be a while to see the Team Flare girls and others. What kind of voice should I go for Aliana, Lisa Ortiz, Bella Hudson, Veronica Taylor, Tara Sands, Rachel Lillis, Eileen Stevens, I'll have to experiment. Cause I'm using Odion for AZ.

BTW, I want Serena, my character for Y, to have the same hairstyle the anime version now does. Actually, I wanna give her the same look her anime counterpart does. How do I do that?

Go to the hair shop in Lumiose City, and style it there.

As for clothing, just look for the clothing options that are most similar to what Serena has now in X/Y.

You won't get an exact replica, but just find what works best.

I use the male character in X, so can't help you with how the clothes look like for the female character.

Done and done. In Lumiose now, but gonna work on my Ground Types so they are Lv. 35.

Poison, Steel and Fire Types will be around 40, My Braixen evolved.

But anyway, on with the anime. Next is...

Yet another Meowth chained to someone he despises episode.

I'm more or less looking forward to the Scary House episode and of course Valerie.

Not that I can remember anyway.

Episode 104, Bound for Trouble. Meowth was tethered to Pikachu. And here we are 766 episodes later with that same premise.

I haven't even watched the majority of the GSC episodes (Indigo); need to do it over the summer.

And eventually, we'll see Serena in a new Showcase.

And we can only hope she does better this time around.

But man, her expression in the Scary House.

Also, we know of two of Valerie's anime pokemon: Spritzee and Sylveon. What will be her third? Klefki, Mawile, Mr. Mime, Azumaril, Clefable, Granbull, etc.?

Also, will we finally be able to see Valerie's arms under those massive sleeves?

I would assume Serena got better at her skills, and learned how to coordinate better.

Then again, Braixen is bipedal now, so shouldn't have the ribbon accident again.

As for Valerie, we'll have to see what the writers decide to do.

In-game, she has a Mr. Mime; but whether they follow the game pattern is unknown. They might not, but you never know.

Maybe we'll see her arms; I would imagine that it'd be rather difficult to throw a Poke Ball in that outfit; given it's roughly 15 kg (33 pounds).

Or she has them on standby.

The only reason why I couldn't remember that episode was because it was filler.

I reckon she'll have a Mawile or something (like she did in the games).

And I don't think she'd be the kind of person who shoots things out of arm cannons or something.

So the new opening shows Ash meeting Alain (Or should I say putting their hands against each other from either side of a pane of glass). It also confirms Ash will capture a Noibat and Serena was observing Eevee so she'll be catching that.

EDIT: We know that Noibat will defo be caught before the movie (because its been seen in the poster for the Pikachu short), whereas Eevee probs won't be caught till like August or something.

Preview of upcoming events, including Ash vs Valerie (and her throwing a pokeball) and Ash vs Shota, the latter of which will have a Grovyle because he uses it against Frogadier.

New opening as in totally new, or scene changes? Either way, would be interested in seeing.

Also, very tilting that the subs for 69 came out in a few days and the subs for 70 weren't even out last night. Hopefully when I get home later can finally see Goodra's goodbye.
