I beg to differ.

Yeah I was wondering how Sega could possibly doing as bad as Jord said when Phantasy Star 2 online was like the most popular online game in Japan for the longest time. That clears things up, but I still don't really want Sega to get Atlus.

As long as Atlus' games aren't console exclusive...

Most of their games were and probably will remain console exclusives. Honestly, as long as most of the new releases come out on either PS4 or Wii U, I don't mind too much. I refuse to get an Xbox One though. Too many bad rumors and facts circulating around it.

*feels like now Persona 5 will be Xbox One exclusive*

please don't say that, persona 5 is one of the games I'm looking forward to the most, and until at least a year or two has passed I have no intention of getting an xbox one. Seeing as a ton of atlus games are on Nintendo consoles already (after the ps2 era ended they mostly became psp/ds exclusives, barring P4arena) I'm hoping they keep up the trend.

but it would be interesting if a company that nobody's even thought of manages to slide in from nowhere and get atlus.

Atlus was a civilian casualty in a dangerous situation.  The best we can do is just hope that it is in the hands of the right company.

Square Enix is a definite no because they already make JRPGs, and Atlus wouldn't get work since Squeenix would be focusing exclusively on KH and FF games.

Konami is a maybe...

SEGA wouldn't be able to use Atlus' full potential.

Capcom's failing too hard to be able to pick them up.

and what other 3rd party companies did I exclude that could potentially buy Atlus?

Namco Bandai, but I think that mostly has to do with the Tales series.

you know, I can live perfectly fine if Namco Bandai picked up Atlus.  They may make the Tales games, which I love, but they also focus on making other games as well.

Turns out Sega just wasn't ready to make an official announcement, so they've scrambled one together.

http://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/pdf/release/20130918_index_e_final.pdf

To summarize, Sega created a new subsidiary known as Sega Dream Corporation. This company is taking over operations for Index, so think of Sega Dream as the new Index, although the report notes that the name is set to change. There's going to be a bigger focus on mobile and arcade games based on Atlus' properties, but this presumably will not detract from development on home consoles. The transfer will be finalized by November 1 of this year, after which Sega will be able to give us a better idea of what is to come.

And now we wait for Nintendo to swoop in and take Sega.

I honestly hope that Sega doesn't keep Atlus-developed games to Japan Only.  That would make me salty.

That's essentially my only fear about Sega getting Atlus. With Sega, they won't favor Nintendo over Sony or Sony over Nintendo(I hope), so it's all cool, and heck, there might even be more PC-versions of SMT games now. And the next Persona will very likely be localized as well just because it's Persona...but I fear we might not see a localized SMT game again for some time. ;_;

Actually somewhere deep in my heart I kinda hoped Namco got Atlus. Mah Tales x Persona crossover :D
