Nintendo is reversing Let's Play copyright claim policy

Well, at least they responded to fan pressure. It's hardly as big an issue as Microsoft's. Talk of big things, have you seen the price of the PS4 and Xbox One? Who the hell are they aiming these consoles at, gamers or dictators of small, oil-rich enclaves?

I know plenty of gamers who run Gaming Rigs which can go well into the $1000s, or are all of they "dictators of small, oil-rich enclaves"?

I can understand why Nintendo made the notion to stake their claims, but I'm glad to see they've reversed their decision. Somewhat free advertisement is better than no advertisement at all.

To be fair, it's a completely understandable thing to do. I've heard Japan's copyright laws are fairly strict, so if that's true it makes sense. I don't really approve of it though, so it's nice to see they've responded to the various fan complaints and stuff though.

One thing I really hate about Let's Players attitude is that I hear shit like this: "I can't make money of playing Nintendo, won't play it for the internet then". I mean, dude come on, Let's Playing isn't a fucking job, and if it is, I hope you're at least putting effort into it (VGA).

It's surprisingly tedious.

I personally was not really concerned about people who just play games from start to finish, but people who actually make their own content such as reviews or whatever.

Like, say AVGN for instance.  Would it be fair to take ALL the revenue from one of his videos because he played your game?  No.

Funny you should mention him, he has started during Let's Play-ish videos with Mike, and they're well produced, edited and all that. I like that, sadly, most people just plaster their face on the screen and call it a day. Reviews are also different, as that is actually a real job, LP'ing should just be a hobby, or at least, shouldn't be the main focus of your "job". At least in my eyes, maybe I'm the only one who thinks that. Probably has to do with the fact that I started in 2008 where nobody ever thought of making it their job, it was just for fun.

You're not the only one who thinks that, but I kind of disagree.

I do think that people shouldn't just play video games in their entirety and that's it, but where do you draw the line?

Take Total Biscuit for instance.  He makes 30-odd minute videos with only gameplay on the screen, but there's a focus of it.  He analyzes the game and is informative, while providing his opinion of the game.  However, to the YouTube bot or Nintendo employee (doesn't really apply as he doesn't review console games but I digress), there's no difference.

That's my main concern.  I don't really care if the 15 year old doing the 372 part LP of Skyrim get's his ad revenue, but people who produce legit content getting locked out of their income.  TB almost got shut down by Sega when they started going batshit about LP's of their games from the freaking 90's.
