Tormented
So you know you be 'bitchin at me for not doing different things with avatars! Well lookie here I did some stuff, most of them are awfully pieced together but that is what you get when you go messing with stoof. (I like how this one has like that old 8-bit feel)
Cin
I heard you need a title change. Seriously change it. I like the way the 4th works, the others feel really flat to me
Tormented
It's probably because they are in all honesty, it wasn't really a showcase of graphical potential more just what could be done with working with GMaps
Simping For Hina
I think that you need some references for different techniques when creating icons. You're independent basis has been really spectacular for how far you have come with these. Color manipulation is by far your best technique, but sometimes it is really what is holding you back from improving with these. You seem to want to keep playing with that but you keep doing the same routine as the others before. Even the effects you use can ruin a piece more than the color does though. The first and and fourth are definitely your best out of these, and they seem to be based around color manipulation. The second and last are seemingly using the same stock to get the colors, just set up in a different location and used with different color. You tried too hard to incorporate a different idea into the pieces along with effects, and that is why the pieces aren't that astonishing. All of these are really flat, hard to distinguish the foreground from the background and that again is really an issue with the color and contrast. I would suggest that you stray away from your color technique for sometime or don't go overboard with it and practice with a different style. Livejournal is an amazing place to get ideas and tips since there are some completely based on icons, with some tutorials around if you look hard enough. I could dig around for some websites where I learned about icons farther back when. You're a great artist, but your sticking to one skill and that seems to limit your growth in this particular area, or the fact that you seem to repeat the same techniques. Tormented
The problem I'm having is I'm either scared that straying away from what I know works is going to end up ruining all the designs and also the fact that I also feel there is only so much I can do with an avatar, there really isn't much room to work with and I do not want to over clutter them and ruin it. You don't want to clutter then, but you not really working in a different direction than you have been. I am sure you haven't even looked into too many psds, only images. That is fine, but you could learn a lot just from the psds. I suggest that you do look into them.http://browse.deviantart.com/art/Another-pink-PSD-160025073
