Originally done as a request, half-way through I fell in love with the colors and decided to go all out, I think it's about 80+ layers, mostly all color-oriented. My favorite part of this one was in fact the play on colors, at first I was going to merely apply lightened only layer as I've done so many times before and seen done with other pieces. Instead I applied saturated layers that add that vibrant red and I'm really satisfied with the result.

 

Oh and spot the easter egg for a rep.

And the reason I like this is of course the color. The washed out, lighten only-esqueness is something I kinda deploy in my own tags. The difference here, is you actually achieved some sort of depth. Tag worthy of the title, congrats to you sir.

Dull. Even for an experienced guy like you, this is dull. It seemed as if you just wanted to create something for the contest. I would honestly say that I've expected something a little more interesting here.

The idea of colour selecting the res parts was smart and it held out good. For such an environment it was needed. Always have that kind of colour contrast for dead atmospheres. But even though you selected the red parts there should be more high toned emerald colours. This is because you need to produce unexpected volume of effects. You need to break the borders between having one high contrasted tone and having multiple tones. You don't necessarily have to have them at the same lighting level but make sure there is something bright of different tones.

The thing that I am disappointed about is the background. The idea is there, and it's acceptable but it isn't half way finished. There needs to be something else. It's the wild west, you could've incorporated other elements into it. Perhaps more textures or a broken wall or brick textures. You needed something more interesting. Perhaps you could've changed those newspapers and added elements of yours. More patterns on them or so.

I might have been harsh a bit here but it's because your skill level precedes the quality of this tag. I'm only pushing you not trying to get you down. Please understand this point.

Completely agree on the variation of highlights, I definitely think that would have helped. I was to focused on the immediate rather than the piece overall.

I'll definitely work on it though, moving forward I'll try and improve upon color selection and perhaps perfect it to the most of my ability.
