.Rai
My entry for SOTW 4. A big shift from other stuff I've done, because techniques I've used before went out the window. This tag was a lot of smudging, and also a lot of work on using a lot of painting with a tablet in order to pentool. I also played around with clipping masks and splatter brushes during the process of making the tag.Overall, I'm very happy with it. Well done to Night for winning the SOTW. Twenty-five Zero Oh-oh
I like it overall. The comp lights and effects are working nicely. Just keep improving your smudge details.
Catman25
One of my favorites. You got some nice definition with your strokes, and dodgy green strokes just work.
chairman ali
There's actually a lot of work missing here. Your armature is set at a specific shape but it isn't really flowing that way. Allow me to explain, sir. This is your armature blueprint. The elements inside are going either the opposing way or they're meandering into an "S" shape armature which causes you to have two armatures into one. Whilst this is good and it is eye catching it wasn't stabilised well because at some point the "S" armature breaks off. You have to have a certain point where they connect and not break off. I know the style is like that but if the rules are followed you'll have a much better result. Another thing I want to discuss here is detail. Thats the thing that made me disinterested. There's a huge lack of detail in this tag. Focus on adding small little smudges here and there because it helps the audience look at it as a whole and not just at major parts. Especially the lighter parts. The transition of light to dark here is VERY hard on the eyes. It is showing a rather un pleasant contrast. What you ought to do is to add little dark parts inside the light parts to break that effect. Or you could add darker shades of cyan/dark emerald. I think the major understanding here would be that the lighting here is too harsh. All you need to do is make a new layer, fill it in with grey (find the 50% grey. It is the halfway point between black and white), use your soft brush and paint with black and white brushes over the parts that should be lighter and the parts that should be darker. This was definitely an experiment in technique; first time I've properly smudged for certain. I'm off to watch your videos on armature again to prompt me. It's a tricky thing for me, because I've always consired it a sculptural construct. I neglected darker detail in smudging probably just by forgetting it. I'll keep that in mind if I re-attempt the style. In hindsight, I agree that lighting was definitely too harsh. I didn't have much opportunity for shadows within the tag, because I'm a silly person. Great help in general, thanks!
