Wait, I just remembered something from the event last night.

They opened the floor for questions, and someone asked about the menu interface. Sakurai said he actually loves menus to the extent he wrote an article about it in Famitsu (I think) magazine.

And I believe that extends into the fighter selection screen.

Symmetry.

So if Sakurai continues his neat and tidy menu interface, adding onto Brawl's roster, we'll either have 42 characters and the random space (to mimic Melee's) or 44 (adding another row to Brawl's).

OR we could have 43 characters, a random space, and a space for FPs, mimicking Melee's roster for fighters, then filling the row out like Brawl's.

I doubt it will exceed anything past 50 but I would love it to, that being said there are a number of different factors that should be made clear.

  • Resolution that the WiiU actually renders at is far greater than the wii, meaning that the roster and ui is more than likely going to larger/smaller in comparison.
  • WiiU's processing power and memory capacity is also far greater, meaning that it is plausible we will get a lot more playable characters.

You make a good point.

Thinking in that regard, they could have up to 48 spaces in the selection screen with an 8x6 grid, giving 46-47 characters in there.

I would love for there to be 50, but I don't think that'll happen unless they JUST cut Ivysaur and Squirtle (meaning they'd keep the rest of Brawl's roster and added 13 newbies, which falls in the trend of past games). Or 48-49 characters with random and/or FP spaces.

And that...would be just fine with me.

Did you people not see ZSS, though? She looked like the most buffed character of all of them and it's honestly ridiculous. Her down special looks so many times better than it used it be and it was already great. I think her tier position will stay the same or improve, and it was already fantastic.

It starts so many combos if you land it.

down Special>dSmash>dSmash>down Special/side Special/fTilt

Honestly her edgeguarding is even better than it already was, too.

I hope they take the chance to nerf her though. That last match was like watching Ice Climbers vs Zelda in power gap.

On top of that, Kirby clearly had a bad matchup, considering ZSS ruined his short hops.

Says a lot about the skill of the player when they were going to lose were it not for the timer when they played what is likely a stronger character with a great matchup, just because there were no items for her to go after.

ZSS as a character is insanely powerful against characters who struggle with spacing. She has incredible AND extended, lingering hitboxes on many of her moves with enough disjointed one that she can continuously space with side specials with no risk to her and a high reward, even after staling. If Kirby manages to initiate on her by working very hard to shield a bunch of moves, she still has down special to punish a very light character for 30+ damage and disengage, making the game a spacing match with a very heavy advantage to one side. And keep in mind that Kirby was actually losing by quite a bit at one point but still managed to keep up and win in percentage.

If you want some sort of comparison, try using Bowser or Ganondorf against a very skilled Falco/Marth. You'll get spaced and annihilated with no way of retaliating unless you work MUCH harder than your opponent. Marth fAirs all day and you can't do anything while Falco short hops you to death and fsmashes or chaingrabs to punish ANY mistakes while bringing you very close to death. It's simply a very one-sided matchup and the Kirby was leagues above in skill level.

I agree with Black though. I always have.

Yeah, he does throw lots of things, like abunch of papers, and evidence he picks up. If he picks up enough of the right kind of evidence, though, he can go into "Turnabout Mode" where he gets really powered up (the name is very fitting, as normally Wright is considered one of the worst characters and very hard to play, but get into Turnabout Mode and it's pretty much gg for your opponents), and grants him access to his Level 3 Hyper Combo, which is actually the second strongest Hyper Combo in the game (the most powerful when using X-Factor).

Like, he can go from trash tier to OP in an instant, though at higher skill levels it becomes incredibly difficult to go into Turnabout Mode because you just don't get a chance to search for evidence.

I would like to see him in Smash Bros., though, it'd be cool.

No-one's talked about the pokémon yet, have they? As in, the news that every pokémon that makes a cameo in the Charizard/Greninja reveal trailer makes an appearance in some form or another in SSB4.

Well most if not all of the other Pokémon in that trailer were announced as Pokéballs. All of the rest definitely came from a Pokéball in the trailer.

I'm not sure if any of them will be playable.

So...Pacman has joined the brawl eh. That means Bandai Namco is also willing to crossover with Nintendo on this one. Fair enough; Mega Man would like some accompaniment on this upcoming as well.

There could be the chances of unlockable or DLC characters, so there's more to come.
