Shradow
Ike showed some interest in women in Path of Radiance, but nothing really came of it in Radiant Dawn because of the poor story and support mechanic making things really generic in a lot of places. However I'll agree in that none of it was romantic. But Ike's never shown that sort of feeling towards any guys either. He's never shown those sort of feelings towards anyone. I really enjoy shipping FE because of Awakening, but if it ever came to Ike I wouldn't pick anyone for him. Back to actual Smash Bros., I'd say Ike's reveal (and really Toon Link's, as well) somewhat opens the gates for a lot of characters we thought would get cut. That, or it's just a special case because Fire Emblem has finally become really popular, and Ike is probably one of the most, if not the most, popular Lord in the west (though I hear he's pretty unpopular in Japan). Fusion X. Denver
One thing I was thinking about. This game is Mewtwo's last chance at coming back, if they ever do it. Him getting Mega forms made him really relevant again and the passing years could give him a different/better moveset than in Melee. But if they pass on him now, I don't see why they'd go through the scenario of bringing a character back from three games ago when it comes to Smash 5. On another train of thought. Unconfirmed Brawl fighters: Snake Captain Falcon Falco Wolf Ice Climbers Lucas Ness ROB Mr. Game & Watch Jigglypuff Meta Knight Ganondorf Wario Bold are who I think are locked in. We have 30 confirmed characters for Smash 4. Brawl had 39 characters when you separated form changes and Pokémon Trainer. Melee had 26 and Smash had 12. What all the sequels have in common is that they added 13-14 new characters into the roster. We only have 6 new confirmed so far. (I got lost on this train of thought and am just thinking aloud here.) I would like to think Smash 4's roster will be bigger than Brawl's. By how much, I couldn't say. But if we assume that much, I wonder if they'll keep with tradition and still add the same amount of new characters? If they do, we got 8-10 more newbies. But I don't think they'd cut that many characters. We all thought Toon Link and Ike, for example, were goners, yet they returned. In that sense, I'm thinking Falco, Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, and Game & Watch will return. Probably Jigglypuff too, though I'd rather have Sceptile a new Pokémon over it. So those returning would up the roster to 35, with 29 returning and 6 new, and then assuming the rest of the cast additions are new too. Which I could see making sense, maybe. Shradow
If you think about it, characters getting dropped would almost be the exception, not the rule. Out of the 2 sequels, all the characters that've ever been dropped only come up to 4 (if you count Young Link > Toon Link as not being dropped): Roy, Dr. Mario, Pichu, and Mewtwo. Three of them being complete clones, of which Brawl had none.
Fusion X. Denver
Well, I know Flame brought up that roster size would be handled with some constraint in the interest of balancing, but what if the development team was able to properly balance all of Brawl's roster along with all the new characters being added? Add 11 new characters to make an even 50 and align with the same sort of amount of additions as earlier games. Sure there'll be tiers with some better characters and sh*ttier characters, but that comes with every fighting game, doesn't it?
Lonk
I think the only reason Sakurai said that he would keep 4's roster around the same as Brawl's roster number was because of the story he was planning. After the story mode was scrapped, he has more time to devote towards adding more characters. Originally, Sakurai didn't consider adding a Gen VI Pokemon onto the roster. Then, we got Greninja... DL
I guess that IS a good point....but.... I think he SHOULD have story mode DX But oh well...Sakurai is just quirky that way.

Shradow
In general I'd agree that Marth is the most popular, errybody in Japan likes him. It's why I specified, "in the west" with Ike.
DL
Also hes so damn cool. I think Chrom is rising rapidly in popularity though, due to Awakening's super awesomeness XD
Shradow
I thought Chrom was pretty ordinary for a Lord. I'd prefer if we got the Avatar if anyone from Awakening came in, that could offer up more moveset variety.
DL
Chrom was such a powerful lord Not that I like him a LOT But...yeah Also still rooting for a mage But there are no main...MAGES...... If we have custom movesets Robin would be perfect though...

I do vaguely recall something saying Sakurai wasn't going to incorporate Gen 6 stuff a while back. Which is what made Greninja even more surprising for me. Shradow
She's the other Lord character of Radiant Dawn, as well as appearing as a DLC character in Awakening. She's a Light Mage, at least in Radiant Dawn. The problem with pure mage characters is how they'd play, though. Even Zelda can use physical abilities, but I don't see that as much of a possibility for FE mages.

Shradow
Ah. She was rather mediocre for a Lord. I always hated having her grab potential xp from my other units, especially since the Dawn Brigde in particular needed it to live (aside from Nolan, that freaking awesome guy), so I would always train her the bare minimum to keep her alive, then have her go buck wild in that one chapter where the Black Knight protects her and reach/almost reach her level cap. XD
DL
I wanted to get her to be able to use that longranged attack in that defense chapter and thats it I trained Edward like crazy. Cuz hes so kewl. And I kinda forgot about Nolan...but its fine Cuz Nephenee is best unit.
Shradow
Don't forget Haar. Speaking of that, it'd be nice to get some more notable Fire Emblem characters as Assist Trophies. Right now we just have Lyn.
Agro
Inigo x Severa Anyway, as for the Brawl Roster. You could expect 49 characters with one spot for random in the even 5x10 grid. Or 44 in a 5x9 grid
Shradow
I'm expecting mid-40s, closing in on 50 if thinking really optimistically. Hm... Think the stage builder will return?

It'd be weird to take it out, even though it waned in popularity after the first year (at least in my circles). It'd be nice if they improved upon it a bit, though maybe going further would just over-complicate things. I dunno. It'd be nice to have, but I probably wouldn't use it all that much.
