Flame Dragon
Seriously, people have been saying they're going to keep the roster relatively the same size and not add that much more, but why not? I'd love a Smash game with like 50 characters. Along with another obligatory badass Ike comment, he really does look awesome, definitely more than in Brawl. As the cast gets larger it becomes harder and harder to balance the game. Most fighting games cap off in the high 30s and low 40s. With Ike returning I think that pretty much means we're gonna get a third Fire Emblem character. I think people underestimate the series' popularity just because it took awhile to get out of Japan. It's got 11 original games spanning all the way back to the NES, with the most recent (Awakening) being the most popular of all of them, I think. Constrast that to series like Star Fox or F-Zero, both of which are both smaller (5 original Star Fox, 8 original for F-Zero if you don't count the arcade AX) and haven't had brand new games in a long time (2006 for Star Fox not counting the 3DS remake, 2004 for F-Zero). It is VERY safe to say that FE is now bigger for Nintendo than either F-Zero or Star Fox. The only reason people would think otherwise is because of nostalgia. Agro
Even Nintendo didn't think Fire Emblem was popular, lol. Then Awakening came and everybody was like WOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH. As the cast gets larger it becomes harder and harder to balance the game. Most fighting games cap off in the high 30s and low 40s. Yeah, but think about all the variation a game like Smash Bros has versus other fighting games. I think that kind of variation allots for more characters. I'm more than willing to tick up the size a little from Brawl (as it stands they need to if they want a decent number of hidden characters), but I think going over 42 would be when you start pushing it. Agro
Well I mean, there's also stuff about the range of movement. Consider you're playing with a whole field, versus MvC where you're just in the small battlefield. Take into consideration, then, stuff like recovery moves, double characters in Rosalina & Ice Climbers, etc, and I don't think 50 is TOO much. After that, though, maybe. Blake
Roy is my favorite design-wise. His art in one of the first few FE:A DLC was sick. I feel like this would be the same no matter which male FE character they chose. No because if you ever play Radiant Dawn, it retcons a lot of Path of Radiance, makes Ike gay, ignores most relationships that grew in canon, and inserts a female lead that's Mary Sue in everyway. Shradow
Let's not start with the Ike being gay thing, it's pretty ridiculous. Ike is simply good friends with Soren and Ranulf. Soren especially, since Ike was literally the first person to ever show him kindness, and he pretty much saved him from a slow, painful death after Soren had lived a life that made him hate pretty much everyone. But being good friends with someone of the same gender doesn't make them gay for each other. A couple of the points that people often bring up regarding it is Ike and Soren's secret base conversation where Soren, after reminiscing his past, starts crying and Ike consoles him with a hug, but after everything Soren went through and the fact that Ike and Soren are pretty much brothers, I don't see how that outcome isn't normal. It would happen to anyone in that situation. There's also the fact that in one ending, Soren travels with Ike once he leaves, but it's simply Soren continuing to follow the one person he trusts and is loyal to. Though it doesn't help that most A-rank support conversations in that game can be made to seem that way. But most of them are pretty much along the lines of, "Yes, please don't die. I couldn't bear if if you did. I want us both to live through this awful war, together." no matter what combination of genders the support is. Plus, Priam exists. I'd say it's another case of people looking into things too much and wanting what isn't actually there. The only outright homosexual in Ike's games is Heather. I'd say that Ike is your standard, level-headed, warrior protagonist who's super disinterested romantically in general. If anything I'd put Ike as asexual, just not having any sexual desires at all. LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
It'd be funny if we got Anna. She is kinda the staple of the series, and she could have pretty much any playstyle they wanted to give her, cuz clone army reasons. I actually reeeeally like this idea. But I'd want her to have a "Trickster Class" moveset. It could be really awesome.

I blame the fact that Marth kinda looks like a girl.
Blake
ITT when something retcons a bunch and everything adds up to a gay male, ignore that it was retconned because it was undone later The Japanese version is supposed to make it even more obviously homosexual. Radiant Dawn was terrible in terms of story and plot and continuity. It added a lot of good in terms of mechanics, but the story was shit and a lot of things screamed fanfic. Like MistxBoyd coming out of nowhere. And to top it off, the support system in RD was shit as well, leading to underdeveloped characters, which is especially infuriating when some of their personalities were rewritten. Shradow
I love to ship FE characters all day long after Awakening, but only if it makes sense romantically. And I'm not ignoring any sort of retcons, I only covered what was in Radiant Dawn, and a bit of Awakening.

Added on in an edit. Ike definitely came across as homosexual, and the fact that they retconned him into someone that could transcend dimensions and had a child hardly improves RD'a retcons. Shradow
MistxBoyd was hardly out of nowhere, I could see that it was a thing back in Path of Radiance. And Ike only came across as homosexual if you really really reached for it, because it's really not like that.
Agro
Okay, there's like a small part that was a little weird. Though Soren just comes off as a child more-like.
DL
Radiant Dawn is the second one I never played Path of Radiance, just Radiant Dawn. Ike never seemed to me like anyone gay at all. In fact I found him rather manly. Oh and I'd like to mention, not knowing the Path of Radience story, I enjoyed Radiant Dawn's story a LOT. .....Micaiah still kinda sucks But omg Edward and Mia X3 Actually I DID have a problem with the shallow support convos......but I DID feel it was a really nice game. In fact as far as FE is concerned they go like this for me 1. Awakening 2. Sacred Stones 3. Radiant Dawn 4. Fire Emblem 7 5. Shadow Dragon Those are the five Ive played...and all but Shadow Dragon are AMAZING XD But SS introduced me to FE and it has AMAZING characters. Radiant Dawn had awesome graphics and beautiful cinematics. and FE7......Lyn, man..... Actually if they added Joshua to FE I'd be happy...
Shradow
I loved Radiant Dawn from the gameplay, but they ruined the support and character depth, it made me pretty mad.
Blake
ITT manly men can't be gay You didn't have to reach for Ike being gay any more than HeathxLegault being gay. It's blatantly so. The problem isn't that he's gay, it's that RD retconned him to such and was just a bad fanfic with a self-insert
Shradow
In no way is Ike being gay blatant. I've had emotional situations with my brother (and I've already pointed out Soren and Ike are practically brothers), does that mean I'm blatantly gay for him? Heather is blatant because she hit on Nephenee (or whoever it was) and said she joined the army for all the pretty girls.

Shradow
I'd agree that he was closer, but by no means homosexually close.
Blake
So, what I'm getting here is that, unless they spell out for you that it's gay, it isn't? Emotional moments are one thing , but the way he interacts with both Ranulf and Soren are not ways that Ike would interact and come across as his interactions with Elincia in the previous installments, which were definitely full of chemistry. At least, not with the development he'd had in PoR and the lack thereof in RD. It was OoC and came across as homosexual from a character whose previous development was discarded in favor of manly man x effeminate man yaoi. DL
Like I said, I never played PoR and I didnt find him gay at all...XP So maybe it was just his jarring personality change that made you think that Blacky XP

I just think it's rude to just assume someone's gay when the only distinct evidence shows otherwise. I've seen yaoi stuff. Radiant Dawn was not it. LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
I will point out Ike's lack of interest in any of the females. But that could be more asexual than homosexual. If I had to pair Ike with anyone it would be Soren. And vice-verse actually. it's the only one that makes sense to me. However this doesn't mean that it IS the case. Did this turn into a Fire Emblem/pairing disscusion? Interesting.
