By that logic, Zelda and Sheik should count as two characters, as should Samus and Zero Suit Samus. In other words, you're effectively arguing that characters should never have transformations, otherwise we risk having "too many characters" for any one franchise. Or does Samus not count because you like the sex appeal of Zero Suit Samus Metroid totally needs more representation?

Also, 1-2 characters? That's some serious hipster belief you got going there. As for your hatred of Lucario, I see it being one of two possibilities.
1: You don't like that everyone "hopped on the bandwagon."
2: You're just bitter that he "replaced" Mewtwo.

No, I was just joking about the whole "counts as three" thing. And they are all separate characters. Zelda transforms and Samus goes naked. Not different characters, just a different style. And like I said, I was joking. And I said "Lucario as a whole" as in....I HATE HIM AS A POKEMON, I HATE THE ATTENTION HE GETS, AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY PUT HIM IN THE GAME. I HATE LUCARIO. =D He was cool in Brawl's story though.

But they did pick good ones to make characters, somewhat. They wouldn't have been as cool as Pokemon in Pokeballs, and vice versa (the ones in Pokeballs wouldn't be as cool as characters).

I like Lucario, but I think there are so many other more Pokemon I like better. Plus, he's already everywhere (Has a movie, got a Mega, everyone loves him, part of the X and Y story, owned by a couple gym leaders and a side character) so I suppose while it makes SENSE he's in the game, it's also a bit boring to me.

Zelda and Sheik and Samus and ZSS DO count as 2 characters a piece. In Brawl Zelda has 5 reps, Metroid has 2, and Pokemon has 6. Honestly, it much easier to counter them as their own characters since you can main exclusively one of them. You can't do that with PT, though again, I still count it as Pokemon getting 6 reps. And I feel all these numbers are correct and that the Mario franchise was actually short on reps.

IMO the numbers that feel right in terms of reps for the series are

Mario - 6

Pokemon - 6

Zelda - 5

Kirby - 3

Metroid - 3

Donkey Kong - 3

Star Fox - 2/3

Fire Emblem - 2/3

The rest are all fine with 1 rep with the possible exeption of Kid Icarus and Earthbound.

I'll be hella bitter if Mewtwo doesn't come back, and from the looks of things he won't.

Sakurai u y do dis

I can VERY easily see Jigs being dropped for Mewtwo.

That's what I thought but then they brought back Toon Link.  Dropping Jigs makes sense from a series rep standpoint but developing new characters is hard, so I can also see them focusing on balancing the game and reusing characters when they can.

I just don't want Ganondorf to come back still being a Captain Falcon clone... :'(

I think a lot of Toon making it was because of the rerelease of Wind Waker.

I think Sakari said he was trying to create less clones so yay for Ganon.

Ganondorf never really deserved to be a clone for C.Falcon anyway. There's so much they can do with him, for example he has his sword but never uses it, though in retrospect other characters have weapons that they never use.

I wouldn't mind if Mewtwo returned tbh.

Also on the subject of Jigglypuff being dropped, there is a chance of it happening, although some fans believe that Jiggly will return for various reasons (i.e. being a Fairy-type, one of the original 12, etc).

See, I don't think being part of the original 12 should be enough. Pokemon is VERY hungry for slots (in fact I'd pay money for a smash game that only used pokemon) and in terms of popularity and simply giving each gen its due Jigs lags WAY behind. I will admit the retyping helps its case in being relevant, but type was never really something they could use in smash anyway.

I don't see Jiggly's retyping helpng its case either especially since as you said they can't really incorporate it in the games (Play Rough maybe, but Jiggly can't even learn it until it becomes Wigglytuff). Although I do seem to remember that Jiggly was one of the latter characters to be confirmed for Brawl and I know some people who thought that maybe Jiggly was gonna be dropped, but it wasn't.

Jig was a late confirmation because it was an unlockable character. Since if it was back it would likely keep that status I don't think we'll know its fate until around the time the game comes out.

We know Jiggly will be an unlockable character anyway, so if it was to return it will will be one of the latter revealed characters.

Although one thing I would to know is why they haven't confirmed Yoshi as a playable character yet? (Unless there's a reason)

My only guess as to why Yoshi hasn't been shown is that they are reworking him. He has always been one of the weaker characters and I'm sure they want to get him closer to where he should be with this game.

That's a good point, Yoshi didn't have many good matchups in Brawl. A re-work would be good for the veteran.

I don't know, one of my friends was pretty good with Yoshi. Then again, he tended to use his Final Smash.

Lucario returns but no mewtwo dammit

Patience. You don't know if we're going to have both characters or not.

Yoshi was actually pretty good in the 64 one.
It was only really in Melee, that Yoshi had issues. Mostly due to the fact his attacks were nerfed for some reason or another.
In Brawl, Yoshi was much better then his Melee counterpart. Although, he was still a little wonky, since he wasn't as silly as his 64 counterpart.

Also, I found this rather amusing on the Wiki:

the Egg Throw's versatility was dampened substantially in Brawl by the fact that Yoshi is now forced to choose between certain egg "routes", as opposed to before when the eggs could end up anywhere.

I don't necessarily see why they consider this a bad thing. I mean, it's not hard to know where said eggs will land off of said set trajectories. I kinda' sorta' have it memorized, and it's pretty hilarious to spam it as such(It's not a gamebreaking move, yea, but I still find it really fun).

Um, the reason it's considered bad is because the Melee version had a lot more control over where the egg could go, in fact, you could even launch the egg slightly behind Yoshi to try and control the opponent's movement.

Brawl kinda just removed that control factor a bit and made it a little less useful.

I think he was at his worst in Melee wasn't he? I still think he should be better in SSB4 (maybe be as good as he was in SSB).
