What was wrong with Brawl Snake? Wasn't he really well tiered? I only ever played him without projectiles, and I thought he was really fun. Granted, I've never played PM and have no interest in it so I have no idea how he plays in it.

If they did bring him back, it'd be cool if he had costumes for Venom Snake and Big Boss, too.

Brawl Snake was super campy. It was a hell of a bore to watch because he would just spam the sheet out of projectiles and play keep away.

In PM, wavedashing made that not work anymore. You could close in on Snake easily with it and avoid his explosives, so he has to be played kinda like Toon Link where you use your projectiles to set up your combos.

It wasn't just that though.  Brawl snake was a walking contradiction.  He had decent - good combo game, but all of it was up close and had no real kill options.  On the other hand, all of his actual kill options were either range-based or incredibly slow.  So you had a character who ran on a crazy engine racking up damage, but once they got to kill percent they had to completely stop, try to camp out for the kill, and then once again try to get their engine going once again just to inevitably stop at some point.

In PM they removed that contradictory playstyle.  His forward special was changed to his Tranq Gun instead of the Cipher Missile.  It's still slow, but it's more suited to extending combos or setting up kills at close range.  His forward smash was changed to his Combat Knife, which is just like Link's F-Smash except it comes out really fast in exchange for having low kill and combo power.  However, if the second button press misses due to a number of factors, snake can do a third, very slow swipe that has insane kill power, but it will never connect if the 2nd hit connected.  All his aerials and tilts were given less lag and re-works to make comboing easier and more efficient.

Just watch what Professor Pro can do with this guy:

He's just so much fun to use because his combos are actually really short, but his character is a walking Frame Trap.  PM Snake has so many options to cover what your opponent can do, and thus either force them into a specific option or make reads easier by reducing the total potential outcomes.

For example, in that video watch Number 4.  Prof Pro knows that where this Falco is going to land, so he stops there and drops his Up-Smash Mortar behind him.  Now when falco lands, he has a number of options.  He can tech, but if he techs in place, Prof is standing right next to him waiting to punish it.  If he tech rolls behind Prof, he will roll right into the mortar.  If he misses the tech, Prof is waiting to Jab-Reset him into Tranq into C4, which means the next combo is death.  Therefore his only real option is to Tech Roll away, and prof knows this, so he's ready for that option and gives chase.

That's what was so cool about PM snake, and why he was so much fun.  Because if you have a good sense of space on the stage, you can convert is decent combo game into something truly terrifying.

I didn't play much with Snake in both Brawl and Project M but I wouldn't mind having him back on Smash4. I don't really have problems with campy-ish characters.

But the character I really want in Smash that badly is Inkling. Really, the costume better not be a bad joke but instead a preview or perhaps a graphics test of Inkling making it in Smash4. I know it's just a wishful thinking but still, playing Inkling in Smash would be so exciting.

I'd be game for Wolf and Snake returning.

I just looked at the current roster and we have 56 fighters including DLC/Cloud and the 3 Mii Fighters.

I'm betting on 4-5 more fighters. Either to make it an even 60, or 61 since Sakurai likes being just off of an even amount.

I think K. Rool's a lock.

Shovel Knight's a major consideration.

I wouldn't rule out Inkling either.

Sceptile of course

And I think it'd be fair to say one more veteran would return, most likely being Wolf.

Wolf is the only veteran that could return unless Konami wants to give us back Snake. Ice Climbers can't come back because of hardware limitations. Besides, Wolf was the most fun spacie in the game imo. He had a good balance of speed and power (though survivability left something to be desired) and with chain grabbing not being a thing anymore, he can definitely *blip* here.

As far as Inkling, I haven't played Splatoon so I have no idea what he can do, but Simon... I think he could work with something like an item change mechanic for his Bs and his whip would give him really good range. If they want to go with something more realistic, a pseudo tipper would be great. Besides Castlevania is a classic and while I would prefer Richter since my first game was Rondo of Blood, Simon would be a welcome replacement.

I don't understand why can't Smash4 get Ice Climber as a single unit and leave both Popo & Nana as alternate costumes, if the dual unit mechanic is so troublesome.

As for how Inkling could be played, I imagine it would have a build (speed, height, etc.) similar to Mario's and do most of the fighting with kicks and punches, with its specials and some A attacks involving any of the Splatoon guns (draw a sniper rifle a.k.a. charger for long range shots, perhaps?), if not the classic Splattershot, or add a couple of sub weapons in its B arsenal (bombs, the wall and/or sprinkler for ground control/camping, etc.). The Final Smash should be a no-brainer: practically any of the Splatoon specials should be adaptable for smash; an area-of-effect attack with Inkstrike or Killer Wail, Bubbler or Kraken for temporary immunity, spam bomb with Bomb Rush, etc.

I still think Bayonetta would be cool. While yes she is super oversexed, she would make a great combo character, like a cross between ZeroSuit and Ganon (she has really powerful attacks in her own game and can still go really fast, and her entire fighting system is based off of getting dem combos). If they could just make it so that she wasn't oversexed in sm4sh, I'm sure she'd be fun as hell to play.

I want Bayonetta to get in really badly too, or at least a song from her games, but sadly I doubt it. I think the winners will be Inkling, Shovel Knight or Shantae, and Wolf.

However.....

Something possibly worth mentioning is Sceptile was just confirmed for Pokken.... Hm....

The thing with Ice Climbers is they were designed to be a unit. Popo would lead and Nana would follow with a delay. What made them strong (and fun) is the desynching which lets you do 2 person combos by yourself. In the hands of a dedicated IC main, the matchup is basically 2 sub par characters working as one cohesive unit against a single opponent.

I wonder if Sceptile getting into Pokken is good or bad for his chances in Smash 4. Like, it shows he can work in a fighting game, but on the other hand he now is in one so that might cause them to feel less of a need to put him in here.

Honestly, just give me K.Rool and I'm happy.

Eh, I don't think this adds or takes away his chances. I remember them saying they put Greninja in because of his designs and the ideas they had on making him work into his own unique character, regardless of his popularity that came later.

Sceptile getting in all depends on the dev team considering if he'd be a worthy addition based on his own skills and uniqueness, I'd say.

Where'd you here that? I wouldn't be shocked if it were true, but I honestly figured internally they have some idea who will end up as the really popular pokemon. Though I agree those are fair conditions for him to get in.

They have SIX Pokemon, plus the Pokeball(s) and/or Masterball(s)!

You literally don't need to add anymore Pokemon into Smash Brothers.

While they don'y need more, I don't see the harm if they were to get more. Pokemon is Nintend's second biggest franchise and I can see it getting another rep.

Low chance that anything from Konami grts in unless Sakurai is unhappy about Konima and wants to get Snake in to somehow stick it to Konami

He also said that future characters are going to be fanservice only, so expect either returners or something actually crazy

Anyone know a good way to get all the custom moves in 3ds version? I only have a few left iirc, and it's annoying as hell to get them. Tips and tricks, perhaps?

going in smash run with the character you want to boost is the way i got all my stuff, as long as you do well in the bginning, and come in 1st in the finale (which shouldn't be all that hard if it's a main you use) if that's not your cup of tea, then trophy rush is pretty easy once you get enough coins. and if that's not your cup of tea, then i've got nothing.

True it's Nintendo's second biggest IP. That said they already have SIX characters. The Mario Series has Seven. I don't think it should be that many for Pokemon and, I hate to say it, I think adding in another Pokemon will be a waste.

Le Image

I laughed harder then I should have

I'mma actually use this come . . . . uh . . . . when is the Nintendo Direct again?

One can argue it has 9 since Wario and Yoshi are both core Mario franchise characters even if they have their own spinoff games.
