He transforms into his paladin mode when doing his HP attacks(which I suppose is the equivalent to the B-button attacks in smash) in the air and into a dark knight on the ground. Naturally his normals don't transform him and they differ depending on his form so he was pretty fun to play. He was also able to freely transform between the two forms when one of his gauge fills or something(can't remember) which I guess would kinda be the equivalent of breaking the smash ball in Smash.

Damn, woulda been really nice to get Cecil too.

Second most prolific main character? Well, Cecil's great, iconic even, being the first main character of an FF game who's actually memorable(mostly because 1-3 had generics you can give a name and class to). Not sure about prolific though, sadly. That title would lie with Lightning from XIII, I'm pretty sure. Her character and pretty much the entire XIII games got milked a lot. If not Lightning then, Tidus from X since that one was also pretty popular.

Now, Cloud appearing in Smash threw me off completely but even then I'd say Lightning appearing in Smash isn't particularly more likely than Cecil. For one, Cloud got in either because him being in Smash was the sort of impossible dream every kid who's played FF7 hoped for at least once(which doesn't apply to Lightning) or because FF7R is on the way(also not applicable to Lightning). Suppose FF becomes a regular mainstay in Smash after this and they add in more characters, Cecil's pretty likely a possibility and that's enough for me to start hoping. Or they could just add in more FFVII characters, I dunno.

Ahh yeah probably wouldn't have two-in-one since they took that out for the others. I forgot about how he plays in Dissidia, though. That could work, or an alternate costume, though I was wondering if they'd do something with dark knight vs. paladin powers.

As to who's more likely to join...I'd say yeah either Cecil or Lightning. Yuna is also a possibility, which would be interesting. She'd probably play similar to Zelda or Palutena. The summons would be an interesting twist, anyway. Squall is another, though I'm less keen on him joining. And yeah other FFVII characters are possible too. Tifa is probably the most likely from that group. She's a brawler too, so it works.

Yes, i want Yuna just to see what they would do with the summons. I think it would be cool for her normal b attack to maybe switch what summon she has active and then all her normal/other attacks are influenced by it, maybe a bit too complex but could be cool. Or she just summons a different summon for each b attack.

We need more Final Fantasy in such a legendary frnachise like Smash Bros. I also need to play Dissidia though....

All this talk about final fantasy.  I'm just sitting here waiting for them to buff Mewtwo a little bit.  Literally he needs (1) D-Throw to actually combo into Fair, Nair or SOMETHING at low percent (2) be Kirby's weight instead of 2nd lightest.

There you go.  A not-so OP glass cannon that can still die reasonably early, but can actually get some rage up first, as well as getting a much more reliable combo starter compared to a properly spaced D-Tilt / U-Tilt.  Why u not du dis sakurai????  Mewtwo is so much fun to use but is so difficult to use consistently.

Also no way in hell are we getting TWO FF characters.  Never.  No 2nd/3rd party developers/producers have EVER had more than 1 character per franchise in a Smash game.  That's pretty much the reason why will will never get another Sonic character, Megaman character, etc.

I wouldn't expect a second rep for any non-1st party series in this game's lifetime. Though as big a series as FF is, maybe they'd set the precedent. I mean, Cloud getting in at all shattered any expectations I previously had.

(But if we're talking summoner characters I'd totally want Rydia over Yuna.)

Did everyone forget the FF game coming to the 3DS that for some weird reason had Cloud as a character that was revealed earlier in that very same direct?  Technically he wasn't out of nowhere.

Or maybe it wasn't a FF game....idk I only caught a little bit of the end of the direct, but I remember seeing a 3DS rpg with Cloud.

Cloud did appear in the original Chain of Memories, and Re:Coded. But I prefer Terra and Sabin for two reasons. The first involves Terra. Her final smash could be her Esper form, like Volt Tackle or Super Sonic. Sabin has fighting game type moves and his final smash could be the ghost train Suplex. Every opponent in the path would be on board and Sabin can Suplex the entire train, causing massive damage.

And if Cloud is getting in why not Sora from KH?

Sora's a pretty lame protag. Not bad, he's just sort of dorky and I'm indifferent if he gets into Smash Bros.

When it comes to characters I didn't think could get in but have more of a chance now, Phoenix Wright. If only so we can have Smash Bros. remixes of Ace Attorney's fantastic music.

Sora has a pretty big following, as does KH as a whole, so he would be someone people would want. Though honestly while I like some 3rd party characters and don't mind a few more getting added, I do think we have a upper limit before too much is too much.

Phoenix Wright would be the 3rd Capcom character. That seems a BIT much. Though the idea of a NvC seems sweet.

*indifferent to discussion about Cloud*

Does anyone else want to see Poke Floats from Melee return, just to make people fight there as Little Mac?

Your funeral bruh.  With how freaking tiny Pokefloats blastlines are mac could KO you at like 50 with a fsmash lel.

As much as I would ADORE Phoenix Wright in Smash (and it would be kinda easy since they could just take inspiration from his moveset in UMvC3) I don't think Capcom is getting any more freebies, except from the ballot.  Ryu was already a bit of a stretch.  I think Viewtiful Joe would fit this game beautifully though, so I still can dream.

I would love to see Simon, but then again Konami did a really good job destroying his character over the titles that weren't Super Castlevania IV and lower instead of just introducing a new Belmont.  Destroy Trevor nobody cares about him why did you ruin Simon?  Still would be cool though, especially if he's done right.

I want Crono.  Squeenix plz don't forget this gaem itz tuu gud give meh moar.

I always thought a beautiful character would just be a generic Hunter from Monster Hunter.  You could vary easily make a moveset like how you would make a moveset for Dante from DMC: that is all of his smashes, tilts, etc use attacks from any of the 13 weapon classes.  Just pooling all those together could EASILY make a somewhat coherent / fluent moveset.  Then you could do something cool like, instead of having alternate colors, have it so that every color is just a different High/G rank armor from some of the Flagship Monsters across the different games.

But that's never going to happen.  Not enough people could have possibly thought of that to win the ballot and Capcom either has no spots left / wont waste it on a series that isn't even close to their top selling franchise.  In fact I was surprised we even got the Mii costumes, with which I can say I'm satisfied.  Still a bit disappointed, but satisfied nonetheless.
