i love variation on my stages, but within reason. for example, great cave offensive is a stage that deserves a special place in stage hell, but hyrule castle, when you're not playing somebody that runs around all day is simply divine for adding a sense of scale to a 1v1 fight.

that said, this new mario maker stage is going to be glorious and hell every single time you choose it.

Hyrule Castle is miserable since everyone just fights in the cave. Don't get me wrong, its really satisfying when you keep teching every hit when you get to a high percent, but the stage gets dumb fast.

Honestly it would be funking sweet as hell if there was like a "Competitive Mode" on it.

Like it has set, fair blastlines, and still randomizes every stage, but it removes things like hazards from the pool of possibilities so a stage like this could actually be considered for tourney play.

It would be such a hype stage pick.

It would be hype, sure, but if you're going to counterpick a stage, you'd pick it because of familiarity and because it's better for your character or worse for your opponent, which almost always has to do with platforms or blast zones. But you'd never know what the platforms would be like with this. Essentially, the only reason someone WOULD pick it would then be if the blast zones weren't necessarily fair. Like Delfino during transitions.

I find they take away from the action too much. I'm ok with some, but I like minimizing it when possible. Though this is mostly in 1v1s. In 4 man battles I don't care that much.

this reads like you're arguing for FD only. and competitively as well.

which is silly because FD isn't a fair fight against or for certain characters and that's why there are 8 other legal stages (Battlefield, Smashville, Town & City, Dreamland, Lylat, Duck Hunt, Delfino, and Castle Seige sometimes.)

ftr, Pokémon Stadium 2's 5+ player form is the most legal, but isn't available in 1v1s...

Hyrule Castle =/= Hyrule Temple

Does it? That isn't at all what I was referring it. Stages like Battlefield and the Animal Crossing are perfectly fine. I was talking about more chaotic stages like the Temples, 75m, Gamer, the ones with bosses, etc. Having platforms is very nice and you don't get that with Omega. Also, you missed Halberd on your legal list.

That they aren't. I'm horrible with names (it being a 64 stage I haven't downloaded hasn't helped) and the running away comment make me think Temple since people do tend to run away on that stage.

TIL my friends don't know how to fight Killager. *evil laughter*

I'm no DL, but I've gotten lots of practice in with him so I'm having a grand old time beating the snot out of my friends with him. Slingshot/Turnips 2stronk.

The slingshot is used to get free stuff. Of course it would be used to get free wins :Kappa:

Okay so, I now have Bowser Junior (Costume: Ludwig; Nickname: "The Barron"), Zero Suit Samus (Costume: Orange Bikini; Nickname: (BootyWaifu"), and Olimar (Costume: Red Alph; Nickname: "Spaceman A") Amiibos as well. Could've gotten Ganondorf, but I didn't want to go very out of my way to get him.

BTW, My Lucina is nicknamed "SwordWaifu"

So I'm a know-nothing scrub, so I'm going to start learning how to use techniques instead of just polishing my general skill. TIL exactly how DI/Smash DI work (I knew what they were but didn't know the specifics for directional input when getting launched), jab locking (I knew about Little Mac's but forgot that it was a general thing), and about all the tricks with Villager's Pocket (like the invincibility frames and locking out item use such as R.O.B.'s Gyro or Bowser Jr.'s Mechakoopa).

Yas.

The best way to get better at this game is to first improve your tech skill.  The more you know about the technical aspects of this game the more successful you will be in practice.

Something I would suggest is once you've found a character you like to main is to then look up their frame data.  You may be surprised how fast some moves come out or how long they stay active.

For example it was just recently discovered that if your character hits a wall while in hitstun from a move, you cannot wall tech off the same wall, because recoil-lag frames triggered when hitting a wall at high speed are no longer triggered as they must be triggered after the hitlag has finished.

Do you have any idea what I just said?  That's what I mean by brushing up on your tech knowledge.  The fundamentals are the most important thing in a game like this.  It's kinda like high school physics: once you know all the fundamental equations, even the most complex of problems is simply a matter of using the correct equations in the correct order to solve for whatever variable you need.

I do enjoy the continued DLC support for this game. Still haven't picked up the other DLC stages so I'll get them when this drops since I'm not in a rush.

Same here. I haven't picked up the other DLC stages either, but I'm in no rush to get them.

Don't get me started on Temple, especially since it's a large stage anyway and like you said it gets dumb really fast since everyone fights in the cave area.

I faced a dude at my friend's monthly tourney who asked if he could Counter-Pick Temple for Game 4.  I knew I was gonna lose that match so I said sure.

The only reason that match was close was because it was Hyrule and I knew how to tech.  lel I got rekt so hard.
