My personal play style with Shulk is buster to run up the damage, smash to kill them, then alter between smash and shield to get in more damage until I die. Agro
If you REALLY want to be good with Shulk tho, you have to get adept at switching to the jump art off stage and comboing with speed art
Jord200
I need some training and or advice. I suck like a bucket of ticks and leeches. Lonk
If you REALLY want to be good with Shulk tho, you have to get adept at switching to the jump art off stage and comboing with speed art I do that though. Smash is REALLY powerful. My personal play style with Shulk is buster to run up the damage, smash to kill them, then alter between smash and shield to get in more damage until I die. I switch into a Monado Art depending on the character I face and how the person plays them. Jump is better against aggressive/projectile foes. Speed is better against defensive/close-up foes Shield has no niche early-game Buster is better against light characters. Smash is better against heavy characters. Βyakuya
I find Shulk pretty effective using Speed Art during the early game to punish against rolling people, or at least pressure them. Buster I would use in case of emergency where they're very tactical characters, and I could use the Jump or Smash Arts to quickly remove them offstage. I think I got some idea of it down if I approach them with neutral A, side tilt, and down tilt, but I'm still pretty rough on the better combos. Lonk
Like I said, Smash Monado is pretty effective at stage control. Characters that rely upon being on the ground suddenly find themselves unable to keep a steady stage presence because of it.

If you play the 3ds version i might be able to help marginally. I'm not a pro at the game, but after a good warm up i can at least teach you some basic things with Pikachu, Falcon, and Palutena. I also main Marth, but i don't think his playstyle is the same as lucina's
Agro
So does anyone else here watch competitive smash tournaments? Combo Breaker is going on this weekend in Chicago and VGBootCamp's covering the Melee top 8 and Smash 4 Top 16 later today. Schedule here. I don't really have a horse in the Smash 4 race since everyone I know in Wisconsin didn't go down for this event, but the best WI player in Melee, Frootloop, is going to finish at least top 6 and has his first match of the day in Winner Semi's against NYC's premiere Marth main in The Moon. Would be absolutely huge if he upsets him. Other players of note are the Samus player, Duck, as well as DJ Nintendo, Darkrain, Vros, and Dart!. Cosmo Wright (the speedrunner) and ORLY were also there but got knocked out after making it to top 16. Also, same event, you should probably all tune into teamsp00ky to watch them play a tournament of random games. They're on an Ippo game.
DoctorMiracle
I haven't seen a smash tourney before but it seems interesting. I would like to see many pro players try to beat each other up with their favourite character. On that note, what is your favourite character to play. Mine is Ike as I can destroy players with him with little to no ease or pull off an underdog win.

I like to watch them when I can, although last one I tuned in for was Sandstorm. Was pretty good, even if I'm not a huge fan of playing Melee. Was Cosmo the guy who legit speedruns exclusively Zelda shit? I also main Marth, but i don't think his playstyle is the same as lucina's Playstyles are the exact same. Play the space game and keep-away with swords and don't let people get close to you. Marth just benefits from spacing more.
Toffee.
Speaking of Shalk....Anyone find it funny how clearcut the "skill" gap is with Shalk players?I mean, you can tell if your facing a bad Shalk if he resorts to ONLY using Counter. Bonus points if you can just run up to him, he does Counter against nothing, and then immediately gets his face smashed in.I know I've mentioned this before, but still... Shalk players have no middleground, and it's strange.Lucina players follow a similar suit, but they at least try and venture out of the B+Down dogma. Fusion X. Denver
I need some training and or advice. I suck like a bucket of ticks and leeches. I need help....I'm a failure with Pikachu, Rosalina, Palutena, Lucina, Peach, Captain Falcon, King Dedede, Duck Hunt..... Please help...... First things first is practice. Keep playing matches and over time, you'll improve. I'm not sure what level cpu you can face right now, but for future reference, most people practice against level 7s or 8s rather than 9s since 9's AI is mostly set around blocking/avoiding everything whereas 7 and 8 have more variety and behave like real players (at least I think that was the case). If you want to get super good, you'll want to learn combos. Stuff like grabbing someone, throwing them down, then immediately jumping up with an up air attack and whatever else you can do. I remember that was a popular Diddy move before he was nerfed. That's what I'm personally going to be working on this summer, because my best friend's gotten so good where I can't even touch him anymore. And he said he got good by fighting level 3s. He figured out how many moves he could chain together in a row, how to juggle people, and also worked on spiking enemies and generally killing them off-stage. Honestly, for a lot of characters I just ignore moves I don't think are super good. Like I rarely ever use Shulk's side B.
Fusion X. Denver
^I wish his and Little Mac's were better. But alas. My least favorite counter is Lucario's. I never get the timing down and pretty much always get punished afterwards.
Agro
My favorite counter is Pit's. Because it's a custom that no one uses. Was Cosmo the guy who legit speedruns exclusively Zelda shit? Yeah. He started playing Smash a few years ago. He put up a video explaining certain techniques.
Shradow
My favorite counter is Ike's, just because how it starts and ends later than Marth's and Lucina's sometimes throws people off.

My favorite counter is Pit's. Because it's a custom that no one uses. But nobody uses custom moves.

The banterbus is in town
Tournament scene does cuz EVO is gonna use them. It is literally only EVO that supports customs thank fuck. CEO will be using standard specials. Reminder that at EVO, Smash4 is going to get laughed at worse than Melee when it goes so overtime that they'll have to have another event at the same time. Agro
Good thing I unlocked them all. :3 I hope that if they bring back custom moves in the next iteration, they have them all unlocked when you unlock the character and you can choose which ones you want from the character select screen. To make customs work at tournaments, they needed a master 3DS with all of them unlocked that could transfer to each of the Wii Us, and they can only use 10 sets, so there's a giant project going on on smashboards to choose the top 10 best variants to use at tourneys.
