Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U

I am, but I'll have both. 3DS is mine and WiiU will be for family, though.

Also that sad moment when I multiplayer with Bree and I have more luck with Zelda than Robin.

Why is robin so damn slow ;_;

Did you expect him to be fast? He's a tactician not a myrmidon XD

I DID find him a bit hard to use because of his speed tho xD

I expected him to move at a human speed, not at a slower speed than some people wearing armor.

As for little Mac, she's still playing him. Dark Pit v Little Mac was a fun matchup.

Interesting. So if what the wiki is telling me is true, Bowser Jr. is a heavy character tied with Charizard in weight, and attacks that hit the Clown Car will deal 0.88x damage, and those that hit Bowser Jr. will deal 1.15x damage. Knockback is also affected.

Problem is figuring out which stages can stay. Off the top of my head I'd say Battlefield, Yoshi Island, and Prism Tower can stay.

Prism tower is debatable because of the walk-off when they get to the foot of the tower, but everything else in it is A-O.K.

There aren't actually very many levels in this game that work in that regard. There's Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi Island, Arena Ferox, and Tomodachi Life. After that, you can argue for Prism Tower and maybe Reset Bomb Forest.

It's unfortunate that there's not an "Alpha" version of all the stages alongside the "Omega" forms. A version that's a normal stage without gimmicks, walk-offs, or walls.
3D Land: Just the 4 platform part in the middle of the level.
Rainbow Road: Basically just get rid of the Shy Guys
Paper Mario: Get rid of the walk-off in the opening, keep the ship, and maybe get rid of the rotating bowser head
Jungle Japes: No more river
Gerudo Valley: Get rid of the walk-off and the traps beneath the bridge
Brinstar: Get rid of the lava
Unova Pokémon League: No Pokémon in back and no staircases.
Prism Tower: No walk-off when at the base of the tower
Mute City: Put the Blue Falcon and platforms further in the air so characters can fall to their death
Magicant: Get rid of the gimmicks and that level is perfect
Reset Bomb Forest: No walk-off in the transformation part
WarioWare: No Minigames
Tortimer Island: Tree is not a wall, raise it up so that you can fall to your death. Retain being able to stand on treebranch, no fruit
Boxing Ring: Basically the final destination version with ropes, maybe make people bounce against them or something to stop entrapment against them like a wall
Gaur Plains: No walk-off. I really like the stage otherwise, it's so much different from everything else
Balloon Fight: No walk-off
Find Mii: No gimmicks
Pictochat: No walls, or damaging drawings. Only platform drawings
Green Hill Zone: No walk-off, get rid of goalpost and destroyable floor
Wily's Castle: No Yellow Devil. Keep the moving platforms
Pac-Man: No walls, no ghosts
Though keeping some walls and walk-offs might be acceptable as counter-picks.

The basic train of thought is that usual starting stages will be:
Final Destination/OmegaMode, Battlefield, & Yoshi's Island. Tomodachi Life can also be a starting stage, or a counter-pick.

Counterpicks:

Prism Tower, Arena Ferox, Reset Bomb Forest, and depending on the TO, Rainbow Road.

I expected him to move at a human speed, not at a slower speed than some people wearing armor.

He's faster than dorf. Definitely good consolation.

As far as I could tell, he's all about spacing, so speed shouldn't be the biggest concern. Gotta spam that Arcfire tho

I keep getting the feeling that he's underrated. Then I get wrecked as him and I disagree. At least he has something interesting.

The stage is walk off for like 20 seconds. Thats hardly an issue.

Arena Ferox has the issue the platforms being solid so they screw with how people travel when it. This is also true of Reset Bomb Forest's second stage. Not sure if it loops back to the starting area though. Personally, I don't like Tomodachi Life. I find traveling around the stage to be a pain.

20 seconds is a fairly long time, which is why it's a counter-pick.

Ferox has walls, but it changes, so it's a counter-pick.

Reset Bomb Forest has the issue of the second stage possibly causing a cave of life and also being really large. It's a counterpick, but not by much. The walk off only happens for a few seconds, so it's not as bad as on Prism Tower.

In summary, they all have some issues, but they're probably going to end up as counter-picks. Otherwise we'll only have like 3 stages (discluding Omega Mode)

Then again no one's gonna pay attention to 3DS once the Wii U version comes out...

oi. Literally anything I need to learn about Pittoo's controls are going to be completely alleviated once I get a c-stick.

This is me. I need C-stick in my life again.

My Wavebird's has become unresponsive, so I had to go out and get a new GC controller, which apparently isn't made by Nintendo anymore.

Sadness.

Best of both worlds then.

I can see how Robin was slow, but I found Robin to be functioning well enough for me to the point where I'm going to try and main him/her. Which almost never happens for me and slow characters.

But then again, I'm feeling the same for Bowser.

I actually haven't gotten around to playing other heavy characters on my roommate's copy yet; is it simply that heavies are much more playable now?

I don't think its long enough to be any real issue. Halberd is a common counterpick stage and this has a similar start on ground time, but no other obstacles. I'm fine with this being a starter.

Ferox changes pretty often so the issue of the walls is a fair bit of an issue.

Reset Bomb I honestly don't think should be useable without Omega.

And with you bringing that up I am now curious what will happen to the 3DS version after the Wii U version comes out.

(yes DL I copy-pasted part of this from our PM)

I know I'll neglect the 3DS version as soon as I have Wii U. I didn't think it'd be a good idea to shell out $40 for a game I'll probably barely touch after a couple months. Even though Smash 3DS plays well, at the end of the day I'll never feel more at home than with the GC controller.
That, and I noticed my hands were cramping a bit after an hour or so. It doesn't seem like anyone else has that problem, but it's something I've been noticing for myself after playing the demo and the actual game for a while.

I had another 3 hour session on Saturday that gave me a better look at the game, and while it is very fun, my hand was suffering cramps and my left thumb was sore for a day.

I haven't heard anyone else having this problem, so it's probably just the way I play, but that still means it doesn't make sense for me personally to get the 3DS one.

(Smash Run's alright, but it's not a deal-breaker for me).

Plus, I have a good feeling DLC will offer 3DS stages for Wii U and vice-versa.

To be fair, you can't take your entire WiiU with you on the road/etc.
So the 3DS one will still have some relevance, because it's still portable Sm4sh.

EDIT:
Just unlocked ROB; Whelp, I'm happy.

How many people have been playing around with the Customization?  Hands down, it's where most of my time has gone into.  It's so fun to see which combinations of customizations suit your preferred play style.

My Pac Man customization is a floaty Mighty Glacier that plays off of rather... explosive tactics, if you know what I mean.

I dislike the equipment, but I think that Custom Moves add a nice element to the game. I've been trying to complete those.

Meanwhile, ROB has the ability to self-heal.
Slowly, but still....

...That's your only customization you've made?

So far, I got all of Shulk and Robin's Custom Specials, a good amount for Duck Hunt, Yoshi, Dark Pit, Wii Fit Trainer and Greninja, and a few more sprinkled throughout.

*install base point*

Smash didn't sell those 44 million units and the franchise itself doesn't sell as well as Pokémon or Mario Kart, which are both owned by 25% of the install base. Especially considering the competitive field, which is what I was referring to, no one's going to give a shit about the 3DS version when the epitomy of how you play Smash Bros is available on Wii U, except, as Armz noted, for playing on the go. The install base really doesn't matter in this case. It'll be played casually, but the best way invented to play smash bros is with a gamecube controller, and that's really all that matters. The sales numbers of the 3DS version would be a whole lot worse if it came out at the same time as the Wii U version.

You have a point, but there the difference here is very large.  A lot of people do not have plans as of now to get a Wii U at all.  Those people are going to continue playing the 3DS version.

Competitively, sure, all those tournaments will be on the Wii U version, but I'm betting the 3DS version will continue to thrive.

For me:

All Robin

All Kirby

All Dark Pit

All but 1 Greninja

Most of many

1- of otehrs

I think I have only meta knight with no customs, and working on more
