Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U

Phantom Roxas

I'm not sure if I'll play Robin that much. He seems like a really awesome and unique character, but my history of Smash Bros. has shown that I've always preferred the simple characters. Even when I did play someone even a bit complex, I always narrowed my focus on them; I played as Snake and Toon Link without projectiles, Olimar without Pikmin, used only 1 Pokemon at a time as PT when I could help it.

Maybe that will change with this game, since I really want to give Robin a shot. Though when it comes to complex characters, I can say Rosalina will probably stay on my list of characters I don't bother trying out.

And boy, I cannot wait for the tournaments this game will have. My favorite parts of the ones I went to, even those where money wasn't involved, were just showing off my skills, put on a little show. The last Brawl one I went to, I played my Ganondorf, since I normally go Ike but I'd seen a lot of him already in the tourney. And the crowd reactions were awesome. One match I was up against this insanely good ROB player who had pretty much crushed all of his previous opposition, but I managed to shut him out 3 lives to 0. In another I actually managed off a Ganon Punch, everyone was hyped about that. I ended up getting knocked out (barely) in the semifinals to this crazy Toon Link player, but a lot of people were complimenting me for doing so well with Ganondorf.

I hope there's some sort of launch day tournament or something. When Brawl came out I went to the nearest Gamestop at midnight for a tournament, we all picked random and I ended up being Olimar, made it to the third round before losing to a Diddy Kong.

Everyone should probs read up on how custom moves are gonna work: http://www.smashbros.com/us/howto/entry2.html

Character Creation

You can collect custom parts and then use them to customize characters.

Customize Special Attacks

One type of custom part lets you change the special attacks of fighters like Mario and Donkey Kong.

entry2-1.jpg

Each fighter possesses four special attacks; standard special, side special, up special, and down special. Each of these can be customized, however, so there are three variations for each direction. This means there are two classifications for special attacks: basic and custom.

However, Mii Fighters and Palutena don't have spin-off variations, but rather completely unique types of attacks.

entry2-2.jpg

You cannot use custom parts when playing With Anyone online. Please use these when playing With Friends.

Equippable Items

Equippable items are classified as another type of custom part. You can use these to power-up fighters.

entry2-4.jpg

You can equip up to 3 equippable items at a time. Equippable items fall into attack, defense, or speed categories.

entry2-5.jpg

It's not a simple matter of powering up every attribute, though. You can make it tougher for opponents to send you flying but pay for it with slower movement, or you can move more quickly but offset that advantage with weaker attacks. Your character's strength changes with each of the adjustments you make.

entry2-6.jpg

You collect equippable items in the various game modes. The items may have the same name, but their performance will be slightly different.

entry2-7.jpg

Incidentally, the way the character looks will not change.

Mii Fighter

Mii characters created in Mii Maker can join the fun as fighters.

You can choose from 3 types of fighters; brawlers, swordfighters and gunners. Additionally, each type has 12 types of special attacks. (4 directions X 3 variations)

entry2-8.jpg

With custom parts, you can also change your fighter's hat and clothing.

entry2-9.jpg

You won’t be able to use Mii Fighters when you fight With Anyone online, but the plan is to enable this feature With Friends online.

Pic of the day. Here's the Great Fox from Star Fox: Assault. I wonder what missions it will conduct. It'll probably have fighters running around on top of it without the pilot's consent.

So are they remaking the Corneria level, or...? I have a feeling we'll see this stage in action at the end of the week with maybe a Falco reveal.

More insight on the Mii fighter is always cool.
And I wonder if they have more gear/hays/etched, then what's shown O,o

Also, this made me laugh:

EDIT: thing I had before was unrelated; phone derped.

The Roy at the end killed me.

God do I hope so. Corneria's one of my all-time favorite Smash levels.

The one small downside I can think of for Smash 4 is that it won't have Melee stages, assuming it follows the stage inclusion trend made by Brawl.

So I don't think this has been brought up yet:

Some scans with info mostly what we already know, but I do like this part:

"One very important detail that both the character reveal trailer and Sakurai left out, however, is that you can actually start a match as Lucina with her mask on. In fact, Lucina has a taunt that lets her put on or remove the mask, in a similar fashion to Guile's 'sunglasses' taunt in Ultra Street Fighter 4."

Also Kirby's Lucina form having her mask is adorable.

I never noticed this playing Awakening, but seeing the mask enlarged on Kirby's face, it kinda looks like a butterfly.

Lucina's got this butterfly motif going on in some official art. Maybe reference to the "butterfly effect" theory, since time travel and all that.

And now I totally see Tuxedo Mask, nice.
