L0SS

Went for a dark tag this time. I think I'm getting more comfortable with each stage of the whole process, but you guys can be the judge of that. CnC appreciated.
Simping For Hina
It is monotone. That is not a bad thing, but color is always fun to manipulate and amazing when accomplished, with different colors. The lighting could use work, that seems to be the weakest attribute to this. I think it is a great tag, but more of a WIP with the lighting. Nice improvement though, you have gotten better with depth. The negative side of this is that the dark transition ruins the depth a little bit.

I think my weakest area all-round is lighting. Definitely WIP, as far as that's concerned, so thanks for picking up on that. It's good to know they're getting progressively better, so I'll work on improving this. Be prepared for it getting worse before it gets better. :D
Simping For Hina
Every artist has a bad piece. Every once and a while, they make a revolutionizing piece. Even pieces that ruin what what they worked for, what was so hard to gain. Don't let what you think is bad ruin anything. Recreate it, what it was before and try to figure why you didn't like it originally. Most of my pieces sucked, but it is the adventure of making them that keep me going. I always have a different feel when I make use a canvas. Practice and keep going with it, it will make you a better artist.

On a tangent, I might try painting sometime, although I don't know how good I'd be at it. I tried to take your advice on board with V2, but the lighting is still off, and I think it still suffers from being monotonous, if less so. Tormented
HAHAHA YEAH DAE WOULD KNOW ABOUT THAT! No seriously this isn't that bad of a piece at all, honestly you are improving so much that I reckon that soon enough you can start pumping out high quality stuff often. Some sharpening may not have done any harm. It's got a nice dreamy feel but I reckon a slight toning down on the g-map might aid the piece a little. Sharpening is something I always forget about, I shall make more use of it! Thanks as always, Torm. Just changed it up, I think it strikes a better balance now. It's a little softer on the eye. chairman ali
Just a piece of advice, don't use artworks from deviantart as your stock/render.
L0SS
Just a piece of advice, don't use artworks from deviantart as your stock/render. I actually got it from Planet Renders. I assume you mean in terms of copyright? I'll look out for that, then. I thought it would be okay from that particular website, providing the provider in question gave freedom to do so (which they did). There is the link, if you're interested: http://www.planetrenders.net/Pepper-Project-Girl-PSD67826.html
Madsen
For the sake of all that is good avoid using Pepper Project render/stocks. I've made that mistake 3: Someone needs to talk to they guy who rendered and put up the pic, you're not at much fault at all here. Don't concern yourself too much just try to watch out for copyrighted stuff and stuff people don't like to have used. About the tag, it's nice, just the lightning looks a bit weird; try to set up light sources either behind the focal if that's where the light's coming from or if it's visible on front parts of the focal, go for higher up light sources. Here it looks too meshed in with the focals face and that doesn't look too appealing.

I'll watch out for that guys stuff in future. Thanks for the heads up. And yeah, I think that's exactly the problem now, the render and the lighting merge into one another too much. I'll change it up. Thank you.
Madsen
You have great ideas and a great way of looking at design, by the time you get the execution down you'll be an amazing designer, heed my words. Don't give up on it, though. Reading up on foundations in art and painting/designing always helps a great deal if you haven't. It's good that you take advice and critique to heart. KIU. EDIT: I see you've updated. Now, this looks much more appealing to the eye and doesn't look as screaming-at-you-ee. However, the mess you've gotten yourself in here is that now, the lightning is actually wrong. Well, kinda. What you have to watch for, concerning lightning, is how light spots on your used focal/render/stock/whatever need to react to your set light source. I'll use Batmurrns sexy recent tag to explain my point. You can notice that the light sources behind the whole thing going on in front matches up very well with the focal. The inner edge glow on the render which was always there was just further improved by what's going on in the background. Even the small bubbles/planets/things are lit up accordingly. For lightning you can always imagine real life scenarios and how they'd look with what you've been provided in your render/stock.

Kind words, thanks. Painting is definitely something I want to research/try my hand at. It helps having such a skilled and open community at hand here. It's honestly meant a great deal. Madsen
We've definitely got a skilled community, both in practical work and theory, a surprisingly skilled community considering what the forum's based on. I don't consider myself to be personally too skilled/talented but I've had 5 years to take in random bits of knowledge on and off about design. Never be afraid to ask questions, someone will always be able to give you an answer, if even a partial one. The Showcase section's always welcomed people wanting to get into design. That's good to know. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions to ask. xD And as for that lighting... :-0 so sexy. Imagining real life scenarios is a great way to think about it. And I tend to only think about the render when using lighting; thinking about the image as a whole, and all the separate elements, looks like it really makes a difference. I'll think on that, and play around a little. Cheers.

L0SS
What did it look like before the gmap? Gmaps. There are a few. I whore off them a little. Without any mapping whatsoever, like this:

L0SS
^Better. You think so? I suppose the lighting comes across a lot better without the map, I just prefer the moody colouration. Somewhere between the two would be the best compromise. I'm going to leave this for now; and work on something else. Thank you all for the great response, It's greatly appreciated!
