Here's Devon Medley, the schizophrenic and apathetic shipwright with a bloody past (that is probably the best and most accurate analogy for this guy).

I also wrote this under the impression he was already part of the crew, and each section was written out of order and at different times, so there might be some inconsistencies in it.

Also, is it OK, if can knows Busoshoku Haki, but at a later time or learns it over the course of events?

Personal Information

Username: Pirate
Name: Devon Medley
Epithet: Strong Arm (強肩 Lit. Kyōken)
Age: 24
Blood Type: B+
Date of Birth: August 6
Position on Crew: Shipwright, Martial Artist
Devon is a relatively tall, standing at 6'6" and weighs 170 lbs. He has lightly tanned skin and dark emerald eyes that gets increasingly darker towards the pupil. He has short black hair, but has longer front bangs which hang over his face. Because of that, he has to pin his hair back when he is working on the ship or anything that requires concentration. He also has a small scar on his lower which he rubs when he is concentrating. Devon has a prominent muscular physique, but nowhere close to that of a bodybuilder, which is maintained through carpentry and occasional training. His attire consists of a gray high-collared shirt with darker sleeves and a dark coat with two pockets, one on each side, that he leaves unbuttoned. He also wears black pants with several pockets that he also leaves unbuttoned and is held up with a thick black belt along with heavy black work boots that are covered by his pants. He also wears a simple gray hooded coat with fur lining the hood, sleeves, and hem. Devon doesn't wear it like an coat, but instead drapes it over his shoulders like a cape.

Devon has a calm, yet cold exterior and demeanor which almost reflects his personality. He is easy to get along with, though not many people approach him because he just dislikes showing emotion, causing many people to call him emotionless and ignore him. He doesn't care that others ignore him as he finds that he does not need others to validate his existence. Because of this, he likes to think that inanimate objects are living beings, including ships, so they don't feel ignored like he was and even talks to them, though he doesn't like to admit this. Devon looks up to the Straw Hat Pirates as a whole because they treated their ships, the Going Merry and Thousand Sunny, as actual members of their crew, instead of just ships as most pirate crews would. He is proud to be a shipwright, as all shipwrights are. Dedicated to his work, he surrounds himself with ship and mechanical projects replacing the people who ignore him. This makes people think he's a shut-in and weird, and not just because the see him as a crazy person who talks to objects that don't talk back and possible schizophrenic.
Hobby(s): Tinkering with machines, maintaining and talking to ships, sleeping
Devon was born in a bustling shipwright village in South Blue, but nowhere close to the likes of Water 7. His father a Marine Captain who was stationed on the island and his mother was a manager at one of the docks. Despite being born to two highly regarded individuals, Devon was quite sullen. He grew up watching the shipwrights work, and slowly grew an admiration for them. He would do odd jobs for them, but he would do them mindlessly, which some of the shipwrights found odd and creeping. They would ignore and just let him watch, and only talked to and asked him to jobs when they couldn't do it themselves, but he also ignored and denied this. He eventually started working at the dock his mother managed, much to her delight. He quickly took up their philosophy of respecting ship and that they're living beings, too, which developed into a form schizophrenia.  Devon slowly made his way up to being one of the island's best shipwrights, this being no easy feat as the island had some good shipwrights on par with Galley-La.

His father saw Devon's mindless, yet efficient work-style, and decided to exploit this for his potential in being a Marine. He would take Devon take out of work, with his mother being fine, but was unaware her husband's intention, and would train him in the art of Rokushiki. It turned out he was a prodigy, and quickly mastered all six forms, along with the seventh. Devon used Rokushiki in his everyday work, surprising the other shipwrights and his mother, making her think he developed new carpentry techniques. Devon's father was away at Marine headquarters and Devon was on the other side of the island one day when pirates decided to invade and ransack the island starting with Devon's village. The shipwrights were able to hold them off for awhile, but were eventually overwhelmed because the pirates had a few Devil Fruit users. When Devon got back, he found the shipwrights either dead or severely injured, and saw his own mother get publicly executed by the pirate's captain. This cause something in Devon's head to snap. He went to a silent, yet violent rage. He killed the pirates using Rokushiki in the most violent ways possible to avenge his mother. The massacre ended with Devon using Shigan to pierce the captain's head, then decapitating it from its body. After this, he became horrified by his actions that he fled the island, leaving its inhabits stunned and disgusted, and with the burden of telling Devon's father of what happened. Shrugging off what happened, Devon did not feel any regret for what he did as felt that they deserved it. Devon went from island, being a shipwright for hire, helping anyone, including pirates. Because of this, and his massacre of pirates, the Marines put a Bsymbol.gif5,000,000 bounty on his head, with his father not caring in the slightest. Devoj eventually found his way to Sea Breeze Village, with a pirate crew looking for members. He would join the crew as their shipwright, assuming that they would need one.
Combat Information
1. Large carpentry knife (looks like sword, though)

Strengths: It's incredibly large, allowing for great power behind its swings, as well as being sharp for exceptional cutting power. This makes it a great carpentry tool as well as a sword.
Weakness: It's meant as a carpentry tool, so using it in a fight could damage it. Devon usually just leaves it on the ship to avoid this.

2. Fists

Its roughly the same size as Yoru, Dracule Mihawk's sword, minus the long crossguard, making it essentially just a blade and handle.

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Devon is an expert in hand-to-hand combat and incredible adept at it due his position as a shipwright and being an expert in carpentry. He fights with a mix of punches and kicks, but prefers using his fists. He has observed many different kinds of fighting styles and has taken a little bit from each to develop his own. This helps him add more power to his Rokushiki techniques, making him even more deadly.

Expert Swordsman: While not his main form of fighting, Devon is proficient swordsman capable of using carpentry tools as makeshift weapons whenever there is the need, though he is no where near as good as who actually is a swords. His main weapon is his large carpentry knife and despite its size, he is able to wield it like a sword. He is not able to create air blades with his slashes, but he can cut steel, but with a certain degree of difficulty.

Strength: Devon is incredible strong, as any shipwright should be. He is able to wield his carpentry knife with ease along with other large carpentry tools. He is able to lift heavy objects, like boulders, with ease whereas most people would not be able to or have great difficulty.

Rokushiki: Devon is trained in the superhuman martial art of Rokushiki. He has mastered all six forms, allowing him access to the seventh skill, Rokuougan. He has developed very few variation of each form as he sees them as powerful enough on their own.

Rokuougan Tunnel: Devon puts his fists in front of himself, and instead of releasing a shockwave, he swings his arms around while releasing the shockwaves in streaming torrents for a wide ranged attack. He can run or use Soru at his opponents to release the torrents at close range.

Drawbacks: It it is meant as a wide ranged attack to attack multiple opponents, and not for attacking a single target. He can close the distance between him and his target, but his fists must remain in front of him, leaving him open to attack, so this is not preferable.

Rankyaku Burner: Devon winds up his leg and kicks the air at a higher speed than normal creating a slightly larger Rankyaku than normal, resulting in it catching fire due to friction. It burns his targets on impact, then explodes due to the sudden loss of friction and the flames running out of oxygen from the Rankyaku.

Drawbacks: He must "charge" this attack up, by winding up his leg, so he can only fire these attacks one at a time.
Other Information

Devon has a Bsymbol.gif5,000,000 bounty.

Devon's name is pronounced Devin, but most people pronounce it the way its spelled, much to his annoyance.

He prefers spicy food, especially curry, but he will eat just about anything.

He can drink a good amount of alcohol, but dislikes drinking as it would inhibit his duties as shipwright.

He is the one of the two members of the crew who has not eaten a Devil Fruit.

Ok so after some delibaration on my and Blu's part, we have decided that Kyng, Kaka and Tormented's app are the three we will be using. We're sorry Shotaro, but we didn't feel as though you app came up to par with the other three. Though we thank you for you entry, and perhaps a position will open up later on, but until then thanks for the interest.

As for everyone else, we'll get the IC started with Blu posting it. Also don't forget, that while your character is looking to join the Devil Bat, whether having heard by ear or finding a flyer, and knows to come to Sea Breeze you don't know the exact location of the meeting place. So just make your introductory post looking for the Devil Bats and what not.

Alright, I don't mind. With Kyng's app I felt it was very well balanced. As Blu stated in one of his earlier posts I liked the fact he used and old legend with a twist to still give it an original quality. He made use of the new places presented in the South Blue, and after reading the app I really felt like he was made for one of the crew spots. His app was just really well done, and in my mind he was already in despite what other apps appeared.

As for Kakashi's app, the most endearing quality was his laid back personality (which both Blu and myself liked) and he seemed like someone who could the crew on task. A voice of reason if you would. Not only that, but his weapon really stood out to me. We really enjoyed the calming presence his character brought, and I felt it a good pair with the sporadic Monkey King.

So it was really between you and Tormented. Both Blu and I agreed that in terms of personality you out-shined Tormented. In fact it was your app's most endearing quality. Unfortunately, that was the most your app had going for it. The bio, though I personally didn't have too much problems with, was very gory and Blu stated probably too much so for the One Piece atmosphere. Also your attacks seemed very OP's to us both. Not only did your character already master that martial art but he was also a sword master. It really didn't sit well with us.

All very good points that I can agree with. Counter argument time.

The bio is gory, I agree, but its nowhere near what Rob Lucci did in the past by killing five hundred hostages and soldiers and taking the leaders head, though my bio could be toned down considerably. The attacks are though only thing I can't argue against. I'm not very good at creating and naming attacks, so I just describe them in combat. The martial art is supposed to his main form of combat. I never called him a sword master, only stating that he could fight with a sword when the situation requires it. Sanji fights using his legs, but he did in one instance fight using knives and was quite good at using them in combat. He is a cook, so he should be good at using knives, so why shouldn't a shipwright be good at using carpentry tools in combat?

Sorry if this sounds like me ranting, I just want to prove a point.
