Should there be a limit to Special Summons?

Recommended Posts

Hear me out now, the way the game has grown, special summoning 5-6 monsters in one turn is almost common for the game. when the original rules were created I doubt the current game state was ever imagined. and the fact that many OTK's are reliant on massive amounts special summoning

I believe the unlimited allowance of special summoning right now is what's actually making the game feel like it's getting worse, dropping the unlimited Special Summons (imo) would be a massive step in rebalancing the game.

any objections?

I know the cards are a problem, but not every card can be limited/banned because it allows for an easy summon, my point was that if you fix the core rule (the mechanics) instead of the exterior parts (the cards) you would have a solution that could last far longer than if you just banned a few cards. new cards come out every few months, and regulating them isn't really effective seeing as you sometimes have to hurt decks that have done nothing wrong on their own.

Not saying choke Special Summons to 1 time per turn, just not leave it at, for lack of a better description; as many times as you can get away with.

No, because some Decks, e.g. Spellbooks, do not need to Special Summon to own every other Deck out their with utter ease. Evilswarm and Constellar don't Special Summon more than 3 times per turn, they usually only Special Summon once or twice. Fire Fists the Rank 4 version typically Special Summons only 2-3 maybe 4 times.

You're right about that, but there are also decks that take advantage of the lack of restrictions on Special Summons to abuse it like Mermails and (some) D-rabbit decks. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with allowing an unlimited amount of Special Summons in a game where it's becoming cheaper to do. Then again, this might just be my paranoia at possible game mechanic abuse.

On another note, changing the Special Summon mechanics might allow for some cards to be released from the banlist.

If you want a Special Summoning limit... run Summon Limit/Breaker.

You can't change the whole game's mechanics because of a mechanic... that's just silly. Special Summoning is a game mechanic, and it's not a problem. That's just the route the game has taken over the years. It's all about game speed. It happens with every game, over time.
