Well, this show had a good run.

It hasn't started yet, how can it have any kind of run?

As I said in your status, the trailer actually makes it look a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I was going to give it a shot anyways, but now I'm a bit excited.

Even if they DO manage to do this right, which is basically impossible, this is STILL jumping the shark. There's NO reason for this to exist in the first place.

But all of the fanart about humanoid versions of the ponies, or even ponified versions of characters from completely unrelated franchises, those are okay? Oh no, how dare the people who make the actual show do what countless fans have done on their own. CURSE THEM FOR PANDERING!

I'm okay with this. If anything, the biggest problem I have is their skin colors, not because I'm racist or anything, but because it reminds me of Doug. If they wanted to turn the ponies into humans, don't half-ass it.

Seriously, what is wrong with them being humans instead of ponies?

It's not really the humanization that bothers me (though the quality of how they humanized it is atrocious), but I don't honestly like the concept of a high-school drama film for an mlp spinoff.  High-School Drama-Based films usually end up as a flop anyways.

I also had a bit of hope that it wasn't gonna be the high school dance queen or something like that.

My high school didn't give a crap about popularity. If you like a hobby, you do it, and even people that are not into it are fine wiith accepting it for the most part, except for a few immature assholes, but that's unavoidable, and it's not like groups of friends are like secret societies with leaders, norms to follow and stuff like that like these kinds of films seem to illustrate. If X person likes Y person, they hang out, and rather than closed groups with social divisions and rivalry, what forms is a giant net that ties everyone.

That's at least how it was for me. It bothers me a bit that these movies always follow this formula.

Pretty much this. They're not quite ponies (since they have human limbs) and they're not quite humans (since they have pony skin colors) so they look like they're just kind of stuck halfway through. The fanart of the girls as humans looks way better.

Also their names are fucking ridiculous for human girls. I mean, they can't really change them or no one would know who they are but at least contract them to make them sound human-ish.

Nicknames could probably work. "Twi" for Twilight Sparkle. "Rain" for Rainbow Dash. I wouldn't take anyone seriously if they came up to me and said "My name is Twilight Sparkle" so how are they gonna create a believable human world?

To be fair, though, Pika, nobody said it was a genuine human world.
So of course things will end up being goofy and what-not.

Given that's it's a parallel universe of one with talking, magical ponies, I'd say not set entirely.

And I think you're being a bit too critical of it. With the only oddity being their coloring (since the trailer doesn't confirm the humans as sharing the names with their pony counterparts), I can't agree that it's half-assed.
