Aix
So 5 of our long-time members left very recently. YCM is dying, and some already argue that it is dead. So how do we make this place alive? Do we need a defibrillator? The philosopher's stone? Discuss and brainstorm any sort of ideas here, from attracting more members to events to liven this place up and make it more interesting so that new people come and old people don't leave. Tourmaline
I think we should let it die peacefully. Or see who can last the longest so that, when the last person is on the brink of death, everybody who disappeared comes back so that the survivor finds out it was all just a game and that everybody was right nearby the whole time. I actually wouldn't like that.
Aix
everybody who disappeared comes back. If only.
Tourmaline
Please, no. It doesn't change anything for the better if they come back for me. Only a few deserve that. The rest can stay away or talk to their friends on Skype or something. Who would you like back?
Aix
Things that attract: - A button on the cardmaker that leads directly to the Forums. - A more visible Rules thread. - If only Duel Portal had a better interface and didn't crash. Just Crouton
YCM is dying? Well, if you call 68 members, 575 guests, and 2 anonymous users online in the past 15 minutes around the 8 PM hour "dying"... EDIT: Refreshing the front page less than a minute after posting, now, we have 74 members online.

Just Crouton
Now how many of those members have 0-20 posts, are too young to post in a forum or are bots/spammers? How many guests are bots? ____ Didn't count, though a lot on the list are regulars. But really, I don't see how this forum is dying. Just like how I didn't see how this forum was dying in the previous hundred "YCM is dying" threads in the past 5 years. 5 people left. And? It's not like we don't have a good number of regulars left. Also, how are events going to help? Nobody cares about them even though they complain about lack of whenever the annual barrage of "YCM is dying" threads pop up. 宇佐見 蓮子@C94
But yeah, the forum is only "dying" in the eyes of older members. It still has a lot of traffic and new members are joining every minute.

Nobody cares about them even though they complain about lack of whenever the annual barrage of "YCM is dying" threads pop up.This is very true. In the years I've been here, events have never helped. They've just brought in the same regulars. However, there is the chance that we are, maybe, thinking too small.I don't see much of a point in this thread other than to share your grief that members left which can easily be replaced. So Koko, what do you have in mind? I agree that events have rarely done what they are intended to do. Though, some have brought the community together when it was needed. And yea, can we let the grieving stay in the Leaving/Returning thread?
Tentacruel
Imma be honest, the lack of XYZ hurt the forum. The reason 95% of us are here is because of the card maker, and the lack of that feature could very well have turned many new members away. Though, some have brought the community together when it was neededBut we are not talking about how to bring the community together, rather how to bring more into the community. And honestly, I have no clue how to go about bringing in new members. I'm sure that, if one of you had a "good" idea, the moderators would probably look at it and give it a reasonable attempt. Nathanael D. Striker
But we are not talking about how to bring the community together, rather how to bring more into the community. And that is where the "not as intended" part comes in. It's getting harder to get newer member involved, though the ones that do come are quickly shunned. And honestly, I have no clue how to go about bringing in new members. I'm sure that, if one of you had a "good" idea, the moderators would probably look at it and give it a reasonable attempt. I'll keep that in mind, Koko. If only YCMaker wasn't inactive. We could do something like that Christmas event a few years ago.

Legend Zero
We have more guest than DGZ, DNF, and maybe pojo. What would help is the ability to convert those into members. However, I don't see the problem. This isn't a forum that requires a massive userbase in my eyes. Also, for the love of all that is holy, can we please stop calling it "YCM is dying". This forum has been averaging these number for the last couple of years. Synchronized
I'm gonna level with you. I've been here since 07, more than likely longer than 99% of active members right now. This happens on a quarterly basis, at minimum. People leave, others come back, rinse, recycle, repeat. The site isn't what it used to be but as long as there's members returning and leaving YCM will never truly be dead. I don't know why people don't realize this. Guarantee 1/2 the members that left today will be back within a month.
ihop
Run me by the 5 members who left? By my reckoning only 3 actually left and 1 of those isn't leaving yet.
Northern Sage
It's certainly survived things like this in the past, and good god, Xyz Monsters are evidently coming. Let's be patient and stop annoying people with how much *better* YCM was in the past.
Night
Events? Cardmaker updates? Revival of old members? You know what, I'll give it to you. The only event that people actually enjoy are the YCM awards. Why? This site is filled with insecure internet dwellers who have made their home in this corner of the internet. Why do they stay? To satisfy their otherwise minuscule ego and enlarge their e-peen. Why do they leave? They begin to feel unnoticed. I'll host the YCM awards, and do it correctly since others who have tried always manage to find new ways to fail abysmally and then blame it on the graphic designer. To ensure ego satisfaction we'll throw in some bullshit title for best returning member and have them battle it out for internet supremacy, they're content to have some 'meaning' put back into their life, while the people who for some unknown reason want them to return so badly get what they want and stop complaining that this site is dead. For the rest of us who don't give a fuck either way, we never have to see a thread like this ever again. What about those who don't actually have an ego, what about those who genuinely left because of the lackluster cardmaker? XYZ's and the cardmaker redesign will indefinitely be completed come early July, anyone who left for this reason will have no reason not to come back. (Contingent on YCMakers assistance). And what of those who left merely because they didn't have time? Notice the planning, YCM awards late Spring, early Summer, XYZ's and cardmaker redesign early Summer. We get the egocentrics, the formerly dissatisfied, and those with new found free time all in one swoop. I've given them no reason not to return, and you no reason to complain. Message Agro and all of the butthurts on Skype, tell them there has been some promising YCM reform courtesy of Night, and tell them to check back once the festivities have begun. So, shall I lock this thread now or allow some time for praise? This is what you wanted, is it not?

Nathanael D. Striker
Oh look, Night was thinking the same thing I had in mind (though didn't have time to post that idea last night): the YCM Awards. And Night, it's a bit of a stretch to say all those who left are butthurt. There comes a day where we all must leave, and that day was for them. YCM may pull them back in again, but for now they are gone. Just life, and we really can't complain about it.
