Since I still have one year left of high school, I feel this video should be taken into consideration for teachers and students. Based on the principle that in a classroom of dumb students, there's usually one or two intelligent students who know better than the rest. And pretty much this guys had the balls to finally say something about lazy teachers not putting an effort to help students get to where they need to be in the future.

Discuss your opinions on this.

As someone who wants to teach for a living, I agree with him. Teachers need to engage the students, and packets and self-teaching doesn't cut it. I mean, you are just asking for students who aren't self-motivated to continue doing what they are doing. We can't change ourselves that easily, and if a teacher isn't willing to engage students and help them when needed then what good are teachers.

It's a case of trying to understand what type of learners all the students in your class are (I remember having to do a questionnaire on my college course regarding that). That should given an overview of how best to teach.

I remember just working with sheets alot, but did enjoy the change in style once I got in sixth form and teachers were more proactive

But the students should have presented his argument without some of the language used or the nature. What is wrong with a simple complaint letter from the class to the teacher or their superior?

Yea. TBH though, class sizes over where I'm at are around 35-40 students and rising. Though, that doesn't give teachers an excuse for not being proactive. I mean, they should still try.

Yea, I've had to deal with something similar to that throughout high school (more specifically this year). What can you do when class sizes are going up?

Maybe it is because letters can be easily disregarded?

This just sums up what is on my mind about this. Really it's just not right for people to think that self-teaching and having packets thrown at them is gonna make the cut for their student's learning.

Quote from a youtube video:

"I think it says something pathetic about our education system that a child has to beg to be engaged and educated."

I really have to say I agree with him. I personally already thought we have a crap system.

Particularly college level is always lecture and self-teaching, I've had teachers say explicitly that we should be the ones to teach ourselves, and the general motto is that 2 hours of homework for each hour of class. Then the classes can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars per year. They are pretty much just guides. The equivalent to reading a pamflet and getting the book for self-use yourself.

Now, there ARE good teachers despite this, that try to do what they can, but the general system is still the above.

I actually have an interesting video from a history teacher talking about something like that in a youtube channel, but it's in Spanish so, go figure..... I might just go through it and translate it as I go.

Wow, not only do I agree with him 100%, but I'm just flat-out annoyed at how the teacher is just telling him to leave instead of actually listening to him and learning something from the student democracy. As Tenta said: We pay thousands of dollars to LEARN, not to just come to class, work out of a book, and take a few quizzes/tests occasionally. That ain't learning. We should be paying tuition for hands-on work with equipment that is worth the pay.

My condolences to this guy and the guy who took a video of him. He knows what's up.
