Zazubat
More specifically, Super Mario World Rom Hacking, as that's the only one I have done myself. Now, some might ask, what is that? Is it cheating? Well, no, what I'm refering to is changing the level completely. This is done in a level editor, which features ways to change the level and make a new from strach. Super Mario World has a level editor known as Lunar Magic. This trend to make custom levels for SMW became popular around 2007-2010 with people like ProtonJonSA and his infamous Kaizo Mario Let's Play, which is an awfully hard game (Though in the future, people made waaay more insane levels, in need to slow down the whole game to play it) and all hard SMW Rom Hacks (Typically just refered to as SMW Hacks) got nicknamed Kaizo Hacks for their difficulty. This is what I typically made, because of the fact that there's a lot of things you can abuse, and with Save States (think of Fallout, but it's way faster) it doesn't require you to do the whole thing again. But that said, people also made extreamly good hacks, with fair gameplay, rather than insane gameplay. There's also a famous hack called Brutal Mario, which features changed code, custom bosses, and more amazing stuff that Lunar Magic never would be able to. The place to go for SMW hacks is SMWCentral, which features custom Graphics, music, blocks, and a ton more stuff. I used to make some hacks, but I have not got the time, as it's hard to make a good hack without using a ton of custom stuff, though there are some people who make Vanilla Hacks, basically meaning that they only use what Lunar Magic has in it's program, and not any addtional programs. Other popular games to rom hack include, Pokemon, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Super Mario Bros 3. and a ton more, some level editors being harder to use than others. So, what is your opinion on this? Do you enjoy playing something other people made, did you not know something like this excited, or do you simply don't want to play games like this? Let me know. Nicο
I just accidentally deleted pretty much an entire level so I have I feeling I should be saving it more often. I do enjoy playing Pokemon and Mario hacks, just not Kaizos. Or at least not the really hard ones. I'm not a pro although I'm really good at the real games. And for some reason, I generally can't get out of water on my computer, I have to save the rom to an SD card, put it in my Wii, and use an emulator port on that to do so. That's also a way to do it haha. Also, Kaizo Hacks can be insanely hard, but also very well made. An example is of this guy's hack:
