Kuri
[Prologue to CH1 is available for now. Open to constructive critique. CH 2 will be up 4/21 TO 27/13 at (undefined time)]
I'm Maloco Rhodes the current number one Cardfight!! Vanguard player of my highschool. However, I wasn't always the best at the game, in fact I had no clue how to play when the game first showed up. It was years ago when I dreamed of playing Cardfight!! Vanguard. I was maybe 5 and I lived across from a card shop and the game had just arrived at my town and already kids were playing it whenever and wherever. At the time of its arrival I could hardly comprehend the rules, let alone play the game. However, I did not let that fact stop me. If I couldn't play I could at least watch and see all the diverse kinds of players and the different strategies used for their created decks. Almost everyday I walked to the store and peered through the windows and just watched and hoped that someday I could play too. It was until 3rd grade did I ever decide to enter the Cardfight!! Vanguard world. I bought a trial deck and had my first Cardfight, which I lost. The guy I had fought was the same age I was and beat me. As I placed the final damage I just stared blankly at the mat and left without saying a word. I dared to ever enter or look at the shop out of sheer embarrassment. It wasn't until a week later. During lunch as I walked out of class I noticed that outside the window there were two older students playing Cardfight!! Vanguard. Somehow I was inspired to watch the two. Both of them were 6th graders whom I had often seen at the card shop during my normal stalking day. Ride after ride, call after call, the matched seemed like forever. At the end of lunch the winner was declared. His name was Reggie. He had tan skin and short, spiked black hair and often wore a blue polo shirt and plaid shorts. He looked at his opponent, smiling he said, "Awesome fight! Let's play tomorrow, okay?" Then he turned around and looked at me. "Yo! I remember you." To which I responded by turning away. Then he said, "Hey don't worry. Sometimes losing is the only way to find your winning image. Here," and handed me a card. "This card is amazing. I only use it on hard opponents. His name is Exculpate the Blaster, my avatar," I looked at the card as its imaged glared radiantly in the sunlight. "But he's your avatar now. I may be graduating this year, but I want someone to be the next number one Cardfighter in the school and I think it's you!As long as you have Exculpate, we'll fight together, okay?" I nodded, inspired by his words. The following months he helped me build and deck and my Cardfighting reputation. Under his guidance I won many matches and built confidence. And at his graduation his parting words were, "I see it now, your winning image! See you over summer, my pupil!" But after that day I never saw him again. But I still kept his words forged into my brain. I never forgot anything he taught me and knew that as long as I had Exculpate, he and I were connected through Cardfighting.

I heard the gentle song of a bird and knew that it was the beginning of a new day."Another day for the number one Cardfighter of Highwind Highschool." I said to myself as I stretched my arms out. Suddenly there was loud pounding on my bedroom door. "Maloco! School starts in thirty minutes you better get up!" It was my mom. She was always loud and often screamed to wake me up. "Gotcha, Mom!" I replied searching the floor for my slippers. I was always a messy person and I can't ever say that my room is always clean, but I knew where things were and it never bothered me. It didn't bother my mom either as long as I got decent grades. I gently walked over to my bathroom trying to avoid any dirty clothes that may cause me to slip. I continued to preform my morning rituals: brush my teeth, comb my hair, and freshen my body up so I didn't smell. I always took a shower the night before. It was the only thing I did that really cleaned me up. But at the end of all this I can honestly say when I look in the mirror I actually look clean. My straight, brown hair combed perfectly to the right, flattening as much bed head down as possible. My not so yellow teeth looking acceptable to the public. I looked dressed for school, but I still felt something was missing. So I headed down stairs grabbed my prepacked lunch and ran outside with ten minutes to spare. School was honestly across the street so there was no need to run, but doing it made me feel cool. And then as I sat down in my homeroom with 7 minutes left I noticed some giggling and chatter. I looked around to see what it was about, but then I realized, "Oh no...This is not good." I looked down and there it was, the source of all the chatter. Firstly I only had my undershirt as my top attire, which I can say I'm not too embarrassed of. But the thing that got to me most was that I had come to school, the first day, in my boxers. "Gaah!" It was all I could do before I ran out as fast as I could back to my house and putting on some jeans and a red shirt that had the words: 'STAND UP' on the front in white colored font. Then I again ran back to my homeroom hoping no one would notice me, but everyone did, but most importantly the principal. He just walked up to me and politely said, "My office after school, Maloco." To which I just nodded back. "First day of school and I run in confidently as 'Commando Man'" I murmured to myself. Of course throughout the day people who had seen me made comments wherever and whenever they could about how Maloco Rhodes ran to school practically naked. It was the last fifteen minutes of the day when I noticed two kids across from me whispering. It wasn't very clear, but I heard the words 'Cardfight', 'Deck', and 'After school'. Which I immediately knew that those kids were Cardfighters. The one talking had straight, long, yellow hair that reached down to his neck and covered part of his ears. He looked like he was a very polite person who often made friends. And the other one was Trey. He had black short hair and he looked very polite also. He was in all my classes and the only person not to make fun of me. And I respected him solely because of that. So I planned that right after this class I would approach him. And when the bell rand I sprung up from my desk and approached him. "Trey, right?" "Me, yeah...that's me, Trey.." He said looking down. "So I overheard a Cardfight happening after school with you and that other guy." "Well, yeah...he's...Gage." "Cool, do ya mind if I watch?" "Well, I don't...but Gage may have other ideas..." He said looking around carefully. "Hmm. Then I will. If Gage has any problems then he'll Cardfight me too." I said noticing something fishy was going on. "Well, OK..." He said slowly getting up from his desk. He had small case in his hands. "Well, this is my Deck. I...use Nova, um, Grapplers.." And he showed me each card. "Well, c'mon...I'm suppose... I'm suppose to meet him at the back of the school..." And he lead me on. "You have a good Deck there. It'll be an amazing fight!" I said to try to get some emotion from him. "Thanks...you're...Maloco right?" "Well, yeah! I'm Maloco!" I said very confidently. "Well, after this...don't hang out with me. You'll... embarrass yourself more. I'm mean...I'm bad luck..." "Gah! No, today you're my pal. We're pals OK?" Then I noticed a twinkle in his eyes just for a split second. "Thanks..." Was all he said and we continued on. The back of the school was beautiful. It had a rose garden and clean steel tables that were shaded by willow trees. It was honestly a schoolwide hangout place. I noticed this sitting on one of the tables. I could just stay here and be satisfied the rest of my life. That feeling changed when we finally caught up to Gage. "So," Gage said as we walked up. "I thought I said no one but you. Don't ya listen, Trey? I thought you wanted to be part of the HFG?" he said walking up staring at me. "First off what's the HFG?" I said getting a bit close to him also. "Well, its the Highwind Fighter Gang. Its been the official Cardfight!! Vanguard clan here since my brother started it 6 years ago. I'm the heir to the throne." He grinned as the last words came out. "But that's OK I brought some friends of my own." Then one bulky thug came out from the rose garden. He looked like a bull and probably was related to one too. He had very short black hair and a face so serious that he looked almost angry at the world. And the other was a taller girl. She also had blond hair and was obviously older than the others. "These are my Royal Guards. They'll make sure you don't interfere, Maloco." Just then I felt a surge of energy coming from my hand. Then I saw Tray walk past the two timidly. "I'm ready." Was all he said. Gage and Trey had both sat down on perspective sides of a nearby table and set up both their play mats and decks. "Well, Trey just a heads up. If you lose I win your Deck." He said grinning again. "Huh? No! I won't agree to those terms! This is the Deck my brother gave me! I won't bet his soul!" Trey said removing himself from the table. Then his movement was interrupted with two shadows forming in front of him closing any escape. "You see, Trey, you'll have to hand over that Deck anyways. Get him guards!" "No!" I yelled. "This isn't a just Cardfight! This is a disgrace to the game as a whole. We should be playing for fun and not for the prize. Gage, leave him alone." "Hahaha! Me? Play this game for FUN? You surely are a clown. First you come to school in your underwear and you expect me to take you seriously? Do you even play the game?" "As a matter of face I do, Gage" "I see. Bet your own Deck and I'll let Trey-boy be." I tightened my face and looked at his eyes and said, "Fine, let him go and I'll bet my Deck." "Maloco, you don't-" "Don't worry, pal, I got this." I took Trey's place on the table and set myself up. I drew my cards and he drew his. I didn't need to redraw and neither did he. "Since I see we're both ready, let's Stand Up!" "Stand Up! Wingal Brave" "Glorious Stand! Devil in Shadow" I looked at him with rage and said, "In the end I'll ride to Number 1."
**I intend for chapters to be relatively short until the fan fic gets some more comments. Kuri
Before you do anything, left align that text. *Fixed kinda. Apparently manual double space glitches it up so don't expect it to be easy on the eyes. Future chapters will be double spaced if requested.
