Recreating Anime/Manga Cards that will never see release

Shinobi Phoenix

Question

Question:  What is the forum's official stance on posting recreations of cards from the various anime, manga, or video games (including adaptations or "alternate universe" versions) that we all know will absolutely never see release in the real game for whatever various reasons.

---- Case: ----

Reasons include:

--- Cards of One-Arc Villains and one-shot characters, especially throwaway villains or tertiary and ancillery characters.  (Example:  Solomon Mutou's Ancient monsters, Bolger's White Warriors monsters, Raphael's Guardian Deathscythe, Bronn's Colorless, Chaos King of DW)

--- Cards of main characters or villains that have only been mentioned/seen in some way, but infamously never used in the actual show/manga (usually just for drumming up drama or due to internal conflicts with the production of the shows, such as rewrites and abandoned plots).  (Example:  Misawa's Fire Dragon seen only in the opening credits of Season 1 or Yusei's Cosmic Blazar Dragon, only mentioned in text during the flash-forwards of the final arc of the show.)

--- Cards from the filler arcs of the anime or cards from the mangas that have mechanics that are harder to translate to the real game or had messy complications or problems that would prevent conversion to the real game in a timely matter during the run of the show/manga.  (Example:  Misawa's unreleased Yokai monsters, the released ones, Red Ogre, Goka, The Pyre of Malice, Mezuki, and Kasha, had their relation to each other broken and the only connection is that they were made Zombie-Types but only 2 of them actually support Zombie-Type itself. Yet another tragedy involving Misawa and his cards)

--- "One-Shot" Plot-device cards from main or major characters that will never see release because they were hardly used or only for a specific situation or to get through a duel and look impressive, but never be seen or used again.  (Example:  Judai's Double Fusion, Edo's D-Force and D-Cubic, Sho's Dragonroid).

I think most stuff like this (especially anything from a now-cancelled/ended series, such as the GX manga or the original YGO Non-Duel Monsters manga, which was controlled by Bandai) should be considered "abandoned", especially abandoned hope of ever seeing it in real life and there's so many villain cards unused but "wished for" in a Limited Edition or Premium Pack.  At this point, it's "Ye who enter abandon all hope" for them.  Why not allow some revival around here?

We're obviously not talking copying wholesale.  We're talking doing some real and major reconstruction, especially to fit into the REAL game if the card had weird in-genre mechanics anyway (looking at you, Yu-Gi-Oh! R!!).  Japan itself is already fine with doujinshi, and we wouldn't be doing anything nearly like that.

Why not allow some leaway similar to Hollywood's rules on such things?  When a director leaves or is fired before a movie is finished in production and his/her name won't be attached to the film, the new director has to change or film at least 51% of new footage to replace over the old director's work to receive the director credit.  If you overhaul a card's effects (not just merely change), you've already changed the card dramatically by a high percentage.  What's the difference between two cards with the same stats, same image, same or similar name and overhauled effects EXCEPT for the name and effects?  Changing the effects should be mandatory, but why not let someone remake these abandoned cards and let a mod judge accordingly if it's a rip-off (before judging if it is bad or ban-worthy anyway).  At least, it's easier to find art for such a card and you can work in to fit with some of your own original work.  I myself reconstruct such abandoned cards for practice or when I wish to work on doing an expansion on an archetype "team".

Example 1 (real ones from my own files):

Sho's Dragonroid original only has one barely there effect:

-- "While this card is in the Graveyard, it is treated as a Dragon-Type monster."

[spoiler=My version of Dragonroid]

ACRD-GXE19
Dragonroid
8 Stars
WIND / Machine
ATK 2900 / DEF 1000
EFFECT:  Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set except by Tribute Summon using Machine-Type monsters as Tributes. Can be Special Summoned (from your hand) by using 2 Machine-Type [roid] monsters on the field as Tributes. Cannot be Special Summoned by other ways except by other [roid] cards. This card is also treated as Dragon-Type in the Graveyard. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing Battle Damage to your opponent. If you control at least 2 other Machine-Type [roid] monsters, this card can attack twice during each Battle Phase.[/spoiler]

(Yes, I altered the text just for this post, it's not the wording from my original file, which is OCG focused.  No, the grammar of the card is not what we're here to discuss, only the content.)

Hardly the same at all except name and stats.  The original effect is altered to be treated as Machine AND Dragon in the Graveyard instead of only Dragon.  The rest is completely new and increases the ferocity and versatility of the card.  A worthy addition to power-up the 'Roid deck.  All that work and I still have to change the name just to be allowed to post it? All I really want is to have it fit with the deck, revive a "trash" card, and have the most appropriate art.

Example 2:

Solomon Mutou's Ancient Dragon

[spoiler=My version of the anime Ancient Dragon]

ACRD-DME18
Kodairyu, Ancient Dragon
8 Stars
DARK / Dragon
ATK 2800 / DEF 2100
EFFECT:  You may Advance Summon this card with 1 Release by Releasing 1 [Ancient] monster and sending 1 [Ancient] non-Monster Card to the Graveyard.  This is treated as an extra Normal Summon.  When this card destroys an opponent's monster in battle: Destroy all Defense Position monsters your opponent controls.  During the End Phase of a turn this card was destroyed, add 1 [Ancient] non-Monster card from your Deck to your hand.[/spoiler]

The name was changed to a transliteration of the OCG name because I thought just "Ancient Dragon" sounded quite boring for something that is the boss monster of the team.  Ironically, my version of the card is so much older than the TCG-EX card named "Ancient Dragon", so it still avoids having the same name or having to change the name.  The original effect is kept, and two new effects were added in to make it more worthy of being a boss and make the deck (potentially) flow better for the theme (which helps it retrieve the "Ancient" spells faster).  Name change (in this case), effect overhaul/expansion, same stats, same art.  New card and old card at the same time.  That's all I'm making a case for.

I also remade the remaining (forementioned) Yokai monsters WITH name changes as I decided to affix a title to them to make them actually work as "Yokai monsters" by archetype name (naming them "Yokai Daemons", yes, as in Archfiend) and I made them all Demons because "supernatural beings" like the Yokai says Fiend to me, not Zombie.  With name changes and complete effect overhauls, and only the art and stats (minus being Demons) are the same, why not be allowed to show that off?

All the forementioned unreleased cards I've stated I have reconstructed (with exception of the White Warriors... for now, I wanted to, but had no big ideas for them).  No quickies, real work done.

I think I've made a strong case that should be looked over. It sets new standards and creates new rule expansions technically, but this is a case of "Following the Spirit of the Law".  if anything, it still forces creativity, but gets rid of one step in the way (looking for fitting art) and lets people breath life into some lost teams.

Please look over this fairly.
