Resident Fascist
So basicially I was having a think a few weeks back about wanting to write something. My mind is so sporadic and random at times. So after a couple weeks of thought, this is basicially what I narrowed it down to. Basicially. Every so often(It's at complete random) the Moon, the Land of the Damned(Think Hell) and the Land of the Saved(Think Heaven) decide to drop 24 objects into one general area of the world. 12 from the Moon, and 6 from each of the other Lands. Anyone who touches one of these objects becomes involved with said events. After which, they take on a form fused between themself and the object. Only someone with one of these forms themselves can see said form, otherwise they will look like a normal person. Once the objects appear, they take the form of regular every day objects to get people involved. A person with said object can challenge someone else (however they choose) with another of said object for it, the winner obviously gets the other person's, and the loser forgets everything that happened while they had it. Next to each object, or shortly after touching it, the person will recieve a message that if they bring all 24 objects to the Plaza in the middle of the city(unamed atm), they can change the world into what they see fit. I'm aware this sounds cliche as all hell, which is why I'm trying to not make it not as cliche. Considering I don't want a generic hero guy: "I want a world without [Bad Thing X]!" and a generic villian guy: "I want a world with [Bad Thing Z!]", and I don't want to basicially make every two chapters a fight scene. If anything, I want more "mental battles" for the objects rather than physical fights, if you get what I mean. Kind of like Death Note just without the death, not like DBZ where everything is solved by beating the hell out of the other guy. I was also thinking of making the main character a less than heroic, noble etc character. But at the same time, I didn't want to create an emo, or Dante clone. Yeah, I'm not the best writer in the world.
Vector Nightmare
(randomly posting here again) Hey, I like this idea. In fact, it's pretty solid and original. Lets you keep that Shounen-esque feel that most of us secretly want in our stories, but coated in a style much more suitable to written fiction. Not to mention it practically begs to have immense amounts of SYMBOLISM included. As far as I'm concerned, it has potential. Basically... I'm not sure if that's the direction you want to take it to, but it seems the endgame is mostly gonna be the hero(es) realizing that, even if you're wishing for something good, using supernatural powers to force it to happen isn't the right way, and the world has to change on its own etc. Essentially a "no-win" conclusion to the "game". Of course, it could go another way. As far as characters are concerned: you're going to have 24 participants in the story. Of course, some of them may receive little to no exposition - but the key to this type of "survival" story is to give each character at least a little bit of a profile / motivation, and at least one scene, to cultivate the image of a competition going on, rather than just a linear item-gathering quest. In which case, you have the opportunity to portray many different types of characters, using each of them to display a separate aspect of your world / story. A few easy examples I can think of: 1) Mostly emo guy / girl wanting to bring back dead something. 2) Bad-luck-brian-type character wanting to be friends with everyone. 3) Old person wanting back his youth. 4) World domination 5) World peace etc The exact desires and motivations of each character should be modeled after the specific rules and regulations involved with "changing the world", because that's a pretty all-encompassing notion so far. Of course you would also throw here and there some completely comedic characters with laughable goals, to lighten the atmosphere etc. Once you have a solid list of profiles, you can easily choose amongst them the ones most suited to being protagonists / antagonists / anti-heroes etc. Good luck if you decide to pursue this. Let me know if I can help further.
a bad post
Okay this is going to sound stupid, but you could actually play off a relationship on the forget everything that happened after they lose their object kind of deal (tragic love story is what I'm thinking). Yes, I know it sounds awful, generic, and shipping obsessed, but I call 'em as I see 'em. Anyway I think this story has potential, and you could have 1 representative from each land act as like a judge to the game. Maybe all the people involved in the game are "protagonists" (ranging from shounen to anithero) with maybe a person from the Land of the Damned having escaped and collected a piece wanting to use to rule the Land of the Damned/Rule the Land of the Saved/Both. Or another Idea some sort of outside organization has figured out a way to see these people, and is hunting them down, because they believe them to be too dangerous. Just my two cents, either way I do hope to see this written
?someone?
Is it bad that the first thing I thought of upon seeing this: they take on a form fused between themself and the object. Was this: ? In all seriousness, I know they'd be cooler things, and, like you said, just appear to be lame. So, go ahead, I can't judge until I've read it. A whole lot rests on execution, anyway. EDIT: The spoiler tags are being stubborn, so excuse the huge image.
