This movie is unbelievable. Based on the novels by Patrick O'Brian, Master and Commander helms a talented cast and some amazing directing on the part of Peter Weir. The action is superb and the battle scenes are excellently choreographed! It's dialogue is brilliant and the chemistry between Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany is just plain great! The historical accuracy of the movie is unprecedented and Peter Weir leaves no stone unturned for the sake of dramatic exposure. The plot thickens as it continues and its pace is straight and concurrent. One of the things I find amazing about this movie is its continued use of irony in the story. It creates an unwelcome atmosphere among the crew and establishes a serious emotion in the narrative that fails to be shaken throughout the movie. Even through the toughest moments the movie retains its jolly-full nature and that is something you don't see a lot in movies. Especially historical ones.
