Dian Keto the Cure Master

Recommended Posts

Life Point gain has only ever been relevant or used in three instances.
1) Stall Decks that go into Time and side Golden Ladybugs.

Lol@Time limits

2) Psychics

They at least justified it... At first.

3) Ancient Fairy Dragon

Fairy Dragon's 1000 gain is just a bonus, but still relevant.

The problem is that Life Point gain is only really relevant when part of an infinite Life Point loop, or as a stall deck.

Both of which are bad for the game.

It'd be nice to make a sort of agro Life Gain Deck out of it, but to be realistic, since the point of a deck is to decrease the other's Life, you'd need to be overwhelmingly winning for it to work.

Psychics are meh in that matter. They only gain a lot because they pay a lot. At the end of the day you more or less break even with most of that support. Though that's probably the best Life Gain use there is out there.

I had a stall Pikeru Deck. Getting to 200,000+ Life feels nice

I suppose the only way to win is to increase your life points to incredibly high amounts, to the point where your opponent gives in. This is not a great win condition though, and encourages Flint Lock and other irritating loops. I'm going to rack my brain and think up of a way that isn't quite so degenerating. The Pikerus were fun. I'd like to see them get an Xyz.

life gain will be worthless until there's a card that turns exponentially high LP into an alt win condition

such a card would probably require a hit on inferno tempest and or soul absorbtion

Feasibly make it a 5K beater? Hell yeah.

Air Neos is built for Decks that drop their LP as low as possible without losing, which is not hard, and Endless Decay works with Garbage Lord.

LP gain is not a good win condition for a Deck, even infinite LP gain, because you can still be Decked Out.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Soul Taker and Upstart Goblin?

LP gain and burn should be used as added benefit or downside to cards, not the focus. Reasoning? Because it either leads to useless cards or decks meant to alt win

This.

Hell I went into Magic thinking with the different life system it'd be a better concept.

It's still a shit gimmick unless you get something else out of it.

Because this topic is more about SELF-Life Point gain.
Upstart and Soul Taker just use it as an obscure drawback.

Life-point gain for your opponent has always been as minuscule a drawback as you can have. Conversely, Life-point loss as a drawback used to feel like a big deal a long time ago; but nowadays, Solemns are always worth it. Life points are important as a whole, but seemingly not as a 'currency', if you will.

As a child, gaining lifepoints always seemed like such a good idea to me. It just felt.. so... good, to gain extra LP - and that's why I had cards like Solemn Wishes, and this.

The problem with Dian Keto is that Poison of the Old Man completely outclasses it.

No the problem with Dian Keto is it's a -1 that doesn't really change the game in your favor. At least Poison of the Old Man can win you the game.
