The Track Listing

I have to bring up overlooked topics into the section every so often. I'm too geeky for my own health.

Anyway. The track listing of an album or EP is one of the most subtle things in an artist's repertoire. Many an album can be ruined or made perfect by a correct track order. A listener will usually listen in order, meaning that those first songs are important for sales. The middle and end are equally as important. Artists execute this is a variety of ways: be it with hidden tracks, segues, instrumentals, or simply manipulating the track order for the perfect listening experience.

Albums that have great or awful track orders? Bombastic opening tracks that made you want to listen more?

Two random examples. Beyoncé's 4 was made a little worse by putting Run the World (Girls) at the end of the album, instead next to the quirkier anthem tracks. Muse's The 2nd Law, as per usual, opened with the grandiose Supremacy.

T-Ara's Absolute First Album for me. I liked the order with the main singles being put first along with the more up-beat tracks until 6 while the rest (minus the outro) contains the more serious/thoughtful tracks.

Can't say the same about their follow-up albums though...

Another one is Enigma's MCMXC a.D. in the original version.
