Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity

Let me just start off by saying that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Sky/Darkness is my favorite game for the DS. I've played through it about 20 times or so, it's just a wonderful game. The story is amazing, the artwork is fantastic, the music beautiful... So, what went wrong with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity?

I don't know so far. But I have several complaints. And it's very unusual for me to complain about a game, I generally overlook the bad, and enjoy the good about a game. But this game... It's done so many things wrong in my opinion.

First of all, the only starters allowed are Pikachu, Oshawott, Snivy, Tepig, and Axew. DAFUQ NINTENDO? WHAT DAFUQ? Why the **** would you limit starters to 5 when in every other mystery dungeon game, you had tons of choices? No! No! You just don't DO that. The more options = more replay value.

Download Content is something I personally hate. Why? When I buy a game, I want to be able to enjoy it fully WITHOUT having to purchase additional features. When I buy a game, I want it to be complete, in my hands when I buy it. I hate not having access to features because I don't have access to nintendo shop or whatever. I hate feeling that pressure to buy extras to fully enjoy the game. It's a cheap and dirty trick, in my honest opinion. Yes, it may be effective for Nintendo, but...

Next. They made the same mistake with this game as they have with Black/White, in the fact that it is almost all Unova pokemon. Why is B2/W2 a better game by far than B/W? Variety. Why take away the variety? WHY? The less variety there is, the less fun it feels. T_T

These complaints I have no problem with. As far as the downloadable content goes, I only got the free dungeon so far and it's pretty much worthless. So it's not really a good extra at all. Instead, it's doing so many things right for me, and looking like the actual content is worth it even without the DLC.

The story around the beginning, since I can't say anything about the whole story, is a lot better than the Rescue Team games. Sure, it was obviously made for little kids, but at least it has a small bit more to work with than rescuing and exploring and time.

There are going to be pretty much any pokemon anyway, and at least they are having some gen 1-4 Pokemon - during game. They pretty much can only have so many different kinds of Pokemon in a dungeon anyway, so the variety is pretty good imo, but that could be because I have no reason to dislike gen 5 Pokemon.

Looking better than the others for me, especially considering the fact that it would have been practically impossible if they had the hunger system, the difference in game-play is very much making up for the small starter choice, not to mention I can at least pick whichever one I want instead of going through those tests so many times trying to find the one I wanted. I know I've wasted a great deal of time on that, and I'm glad it's been removed.

Given the fact that I'm pretty sure this DLC is steadily being created in Japan as opposed to having it pre-made (correct me if I'm wrong), you don't have grounds to bitch there. It means its optional content added later. If its planned as DLC from the start, it's stupid, but if they're tacking more on, how can you complain that they're expanding and charging a small price for it?

Also, 2 of your complaints were "lack of variety". You only made two complaints but blew them up bigger than they were. I've yet to play myself, but this seems like a really... Not butthurt, but similar reaction.

But I'm so disappointed you can't choose your character's gender. Well, I'd still play, but it'd feel a bit unorthodox, since I've been using female characters for the longest time in games where the player is represented through a character.

Otherwise, I don't know if I should get this yet. I have like $85 and a store willing to pay for quite a few of my Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that I'll never care for but an anime convention in August, so I'm trying to be conservative with my money, since $85 is already pretty mediocre for a whole convention. Maybe I just won't get this, but it'd really take persuasion. Maybe I can just say for my birthday or something.

I agree with that. Download Content makes you feel "Sh**, I can't get everything out of this game unless I get this."
