Merci
This is just an idea I've been thinking about, and hard to get out of my mind. While it wouldn't be a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure per se, after each 'chapter', a choice will be presented, and people will then have to get together and choose - the most votes on a choice is then picked, and they're brought to the next chapter. I'd probably have to get it a lot of attention before starting, and even then, I have three different ideas about what it should be. 1. Something connected to my Legend series, about a young dark elf who suddenly finds him/herself in a foreign land, in the middle of a war between 'humans' and 'vampires'. 2. About a random Overlord who has conquered the world, and what comes next. Will probably be heavily derived from the Overlord List. 3. About a hellish demon who suddenly finds himself in the body of a puny little girl. So...any ideas on where I should go from here? What should I pick? Or should I just scrap the whole idea? Aix
Considering the Creative Writing section doesn't get a lot of attention anyway... good luck with that. But that could be hard if your thinking about characters' choices cuz it could be god awful for character consistency... unless you are talking about events that will happen, rather than choices made by a character. Merci
I don't see how character-hard it could be. I mean, take Shirou Emiya as an example. The people guide him in different directions, but he still remains mostly the same person. It's the experiences that change the character, and besides, I'll be sure to keep the choices where it's logical. I know it'd be hard, which is why I would have to do a lot of advertising beforehand. I also still need to choose between ideas :/
Umbra
It does seem like a very interesting concept, and I don't think YCM has done something like this before. So you have my axe, for what it's worth. As for the three possibilities... I'm a fantasy buff myself, so I'd have to go for #1.
?someone?
Baller. Do it. I'd like any of them, but if forced, I'd pick the dark elf one. Or, if you have any kind of ability to do comedic things, the overlord one. I love overlord/arch-villain stories. Heck, the demon one could go either creepy/brutal murder by possessed child, or a more light-hearted "Why can't I burn the mortals" type thing. Merci
Then I guess we're going for Option 1~ I'll still have to somehow rally a lot of people first before I start, however, to help make the votes.
Umbra
Maybe you could write a few chapters first, just to get the story going and get some attention, and then do the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure bit from there?
Merci
I'm gonna do that. Well, just a prologue and the first chapter, but it should be long enough to get that feel going and make people want to participate. Although, should I write it in first person or second person? I've participated in CYOAs that use either one or the other, but which would be more comfortable?
Aix
Second person is a bit awkward here if you're actually intending on this guy to have his own personality, and I personally wouldn't be interested in it if he didn't. First person is for expressing thoughts and emotions in greater depth, if you are going for something like that, then go first person. You could even do third person, despite being a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, cuz your really just helping with direct the main character's path. Randomflyingobjects
There's also third person to consider. 'I' did this and then 'I' did that, so what should 'I' do next? Instead it could be 'Merciful' did this and 'Merciful' did that... etc. As for the formatting, I would suggest writing a number of alternate story lines, like multiple Chapter 3's or something like that, being one for each possible story line. If that makes sense.
Merci
Thanks. I'll do either first person or third person. Still haven't fully decided yet, but it should be solid by the first chapter. And I might do alternate storylines, but only if people are so curious about what might've happened that they request it.
