About the RC

Could Hatcher or somebody with admin powers lock off that section so people can't post there until X amount of posts (perhaps in other CC sections)? The influx of obviously unrealistic cards is just.... ehhh. Maybe a section or subsection entirely for those newer people?

They could (and if I'm wrong because programming, correct me,) but then there would be an influx of people either asking why they can't post cards in RC or posting their cards in random threads.

I know I ninja'd you, I just wanted to bump my comment.

Don't like the influx of bad cards? Why not actually help the people who are posting those cards instead of running to the moderators?

Here would be where to implement the "Mentorship" program that Striker and someone mentioned a few months back.

Yeah, but why go through the trouble of a mentorship program when you can just post 45 words explaining why the card sucks, and how to improve it?

The topic idea doesn't solve the "problem" of new members posting trash cards. It just delays them [x] posts before they post trash cards, and during that time, they've probably left, are constantly whining publicly to an overreacting community about not being able to post in RC, or are spamming the crap out of the site to get the required number of posts. Also, it affects new members who might actually have decent to good cards to post, just to get rid of the "influx" of new members posting trash cards.

Yeah but they really don't understand how to make a good card, even after 45 words. Plus, most of the time, people just laugh at their trash cards and insult the newcomers.

I'm pretty sure Neph just posted this topic to rant rather than really be constructive.

Yeah I could, but it would be a pain in the ass for me and I don't enjoy ass pain all that much.

It would probably involve making a third group (now there's "member" and "advanced member", maybe something lame like "junior member?") and making all new accounts "junior members", autopromote to "members" and then auto promote to advanced... feels like a hassle and I'm really damn lazy. e_e

Alternatively I could make Super Duper Realistic Cards, and make that only post-able to Advanced Members, lower the caps for everyhting, etc etc.

tl;dr - Is it doable? Yes.
Will I do it? Ehh... I'll wait for a CC mod before making the call here.

In what way do you find it dumb, in your opinion? Would you mind elaborating before dismissing it entirely?

What makes RC so special that it deserves such treatment? There are plenty of sections that, over the years, have received its wave of new, bad members. RP had it, TCG had it, Showcase had it, every CC section has had it, and I'd bet Creating Writing/FanFic had it. Why not just lock out new members from all those sections too?

Secondly, and most importantly, this site does not cater to veteran members over new members. If new members do something wrong it is the mods and veterans responsibility to correct the behavior. We do not lock out a portion of our users because a select few at one point made mistakes.

I honestly cannot see this as anything other than ridiculous.

You raise an interesting point, and leave us with an interesting question.

What makes the CC sections different compared to TCG, Fanfics, RP, and all the other sections? Is there a difference at all? Is it the sheer volume of posts? The reporting patterns of the people who visit? The general attitude of it?

Secondly, and most importantly, this site does not cater to veteran members over new members.

When we decided to make "advanced members" a thing and give people backgrounds I believe that policy had changed.

I honestly cannot see this as anything other than ridiculous.

Oh I agree, it's definitely fucking ridiculous. Before we dismiss it however, I'd just like to maybe... figure out the reason behind the topic. I believe the opening poster thinks there's too many new members posting poorly. I don't visit the section enough to know for myself. So... anyone more familiar, agree? Disagree?

CC Section is the main reason basically why most people joined. From the the cardmaker to the forum's card section. If you look at the RC section, you'd cringe, and giving reviews over and over to some who are stubborn and don't listen is so frustrating.

I do not consider an inconsistent (mine has never kicked in so...) perk to be catering. In my book, it would be classified in the same sense as gaining more stars under your name. It is in no way comparable to this.

There is no proof for this at all. Actually, from what I remember, the closest we have to an actual fact is that most people register to save their cards. Regardless, it doesn't matter. You simply cannot justify locking out every new member from now on because a relative few are bad.

If someone refuses to listen, you should stop responding and leave it to a mod. People in RC are supposed to accept criticism, and the Report button is a thing.

This is partly why that thing with 1000tepig blew up the way it did. People wouldn't drop it and kept posting until it was locked.

Some people have already touched on this, but it is worth repeating. If you don't like the influx of new members posting what you think is bad, actually show them why you think it is bad and help them improve. If they don't want that after you try to help politely, then that is their problem. All this complaining is going to do is waste people's time.
