Just the beginnings of a story.

The world was muffled and cloaked in the night’s raven mantle and silence reigned on the small patch of road that was illuminated by a few stray beams of moonlight that shone through the broken clouds.  The rain fell equally silently, just a fine mist that was felt but not heard or seen. The night grew vivid as lightning cleaved the air. And suddenly the silence was broken. Thunder boomed, and it sounded like the roar of a massive beast striving to break out of some hell. As the thunder died, the silence settled back onto the night. Lightning cut the air again, but this time there was no thunder.

“That’s bad luck,” remarked a tall young man, breaking the silence that had settled again. He was roguishly handsome, tall and slender, with mischievous sea green eyes and long blonde hair with black streaks through it, showing he was not from around these parts of Cyren, where most were short and stocky with dark hair and dark eyes.  “it’s never good when there’s lightning without thunder.”
