Le New Pope Thread

Apparently on the BBC coverage, they called him Brazillian.

Well, if he is going to be a good pope like the Church seemingly needs, things need to open up. But then again it's unlikely if not impossible.

Not on my TV. And I'm pretty sure I've got the same BBC as everyone else in britain. :/

As for the pope, I honestly dont really care. I'm not a huge fan of Christianity as a whole. Catholicism doesn't really interest me at all. T'is a bit unusual though; there are very few non-european popes, and I'm pretty sure this is the first from the Americas, right? So it should be a little intriguing to see his perspective of things.

But I probably wont be following his actions that much anyway.

He looks like the most boring person ever, he has absolutely no recognisable facial features.

As a Pope, I don't know, I'm technically Catholic so I should care about this sort of thing but really I don't.

BTW this is the first non-European Pope I think.

What is it with the Catholic Church and colluding with Fascism?

He's part of that one branch of christianiy which features military-like organization. The guy has no association with the dirty war. As someone who lives here and has studied that topic many times over, I would also like to point out that our deeeeeear president likes to throw that phrase around a lot.

As for silence, he might be. But that doesn't actually mean he was aware of what his priests were doing, or whether they were actually being forced to do what they did and not actually following orders.

Nah, there have been quite a few non-european ones. Mostly from around the Israel sort of area though. (And a - to me - surprising number of Africans, though white-africans)

The 'first pope' (St Peter) wasn't european.
