(Full disclosure: This flag was posted previously by me on the Alternate History Forums website under the alias of "Hsu." So if you see this anywhere else than these two places, someone took it. And that'd make me sad.)

This flag is for the main country of an alternate history project I'm working on the side, the rough point of divergence being that things went south for the USA during the War of 1812. Anyhoo, this flag represents the United Maritime States, formed out of the New England and Canadian maritime provinces that we know today, along with a few extras. I'm probably gonna write up a wiki-esque article to post in Fanfiction at some point with more details, but yeah. Comments? ;3;

The five stripes represent the five freedoms of the UMS: freedom of belief, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of association, and freedom of self-determination. (Something I completely pulled out of a hat - may change the stripe number if I can think of a better reason. I also want to saturate the red fields a bit more, considering the flag's colors are all pulled from the US and not from Canada at all.) The 15 stars represent the 12 states and 3 territories that make up the union, while the anchor represents their common heritage and livelihood from the sea.

I would say possible increase the length of the flag, looks a bit too... squared IMO. Other than that, I love it

LATE RESPONSE IS LATE.

I would, but the 2:3 ratio is very common in vexillology. Lengthening it would throw off the ratio. However, the flag of the USA is 10:19, which is probably why it looks square-ish. I could try to make it longer, though you'll have to give me a bit, though - I'm terrible at math. P:

EDIT: Revised version. Couldn't figure out passable symbolism for the stripes and I realized Rhode Island had already done the whole "anchor surrounded by stars" schtick, so I cut the former and replaced the latter with a tree.
