Or you could make it mandatory. I know for the RPs of certain members, like Blu or Kyng, they have you sign up for specific parts. You could have the descendents that you can have, only 1 participant per descendent. I like this idea of one of the members of the group being the future king.

Actually, it could work to be the descendants, because it actually would really impact what kind of character you have. I suppose it could work.

You could also have it determine what kind of power they got. This way you could avoid having people submit applications with overpowered forms of magic. But that might be to restrictive...

There really isn't canon for Arthurian Legend, all the knights were just ordinary, albeit very skilled, knights, they didn't have magical power, so there's hardly any type of power to go on or give people.

Anyway, I'm writing up how magic will work in this RP.

I need people to make the Capability, Limitation and Applications of all of the powers on this list

Super Powers

HOLY CRAP! That is a lot of work! Sorry bro, I'm out.

Don't know much about Arthurian Legend, but yeah that would be a problem, lol. I would say to have people choose between being a warrior or a magician. Warriors of course could still learn magic, but more battle intensive magic, or perhaps enchanted weapons and then magicians could use things like elemental magic/illusion and whatnot.

Simdoggy
Preferred Roleplay Genres/Types: Sci-Fi and Fantasy are what I like the most, as well as any related to an anime or manga i've watched/read, and of course the Yugioh Rp's as well.
Preferred Character Type: I usually tend to go with the always calm/collected style character, though I can play a variety of characters. I usually play teenagers, though I don't really have any preference on age, and I usually choose the gender commpletely on whim, or on what style of character I want to make.
Skills: I'm rather good at creating characters, and helping to keep the RPs going, having been mainly around that section for my time here, and I would consider myself decent at helping to build the world of an RP ready for later use.

Neph
Preferred Roleplay Genres/Types: Almost any sort of action and/or adventure type.
Preferred Character Type: I probably play the blunt but kind inside type, but I enjoy almost any type of character. Gender depends on the character, and I usually choose around the age of a teen for my characters, give or take around 2-3 years.
Skills: I randomly think of plots that people seem to like. I guess my characters are decent. Planning and such? IDK. :P

Discussion Start: What makes an RP successful and how to make an RP successful.

Well obvious the plot has to be thought out, because when you are just flying by the seat of your pants you often get on random side shows that, while made add length, ultimately ends in a dead end. That being said, you can't have it too structured either, otherwise you really lose the purpose of an RP. Another big thing is to have the right participants and the right amount of participants. So while comparatively an application may be better than another, you have to think of what fits best with the general plot as well as the other characters involved. Also, having too many participants makes it hard to keep track of and having too little makes the RP bland. Those involved also have to stay committed, otherwise things fall apart.

You said everything in there. But there is something extra, a plot might not please everyone, still it must be made and please the host, so I would say that also the plot must be involving and straigh, but also open enough to get some side stories if they match/can help on the main plot.

Agreed. You have to leave some things open so that each participant can feel like they are contributing to the RP.

Okay, now second thing to be discussed: What would you guys like to see in an RP?

Hmm...really I want to see originality. I am not saying it can't be based off of something in Pop Culture, but at least make it something different. Seeing Yu-Gi-Oh! RPs that deal with stealing souls saddens me. It has been done at least once in every series and just isn't original. Aside from originality I really like to see organization. RPs that just seem to be throwing out things at random as well as ones that move along too fast really bother me

Excuse me, sorry guys, I forgot to come here. Slipped my mind. I'm a little sleepy right now, so excuse me if my writing is somewhat sloppy.

Preferred Roleplay Genres/Types: Fantasy and Sci-Fi, and Romance, and Adventure, and Mystery, and Action, and just about everything else. Anything goes.
Preferred Character Type: Most of the time, I make eccentric, ignorant and outgoing people. In most cases, I make the effort to have my character stand out amongst everyone else, so I have a pretty wide range of maniacal characters. Not that they're all eccentric, mind you. Also, most of the time, my character ends up as the main antagonist even when it's not my RP. Apparently, I'm good at playing main antagonists.
Skills: Jack-of-all-trades. Banners, editing, writing- actually, I love writing so you can call me an Ace at that, and I'm currently working on a novel. I also consider myself skilled at roleplaying too *points to Legend Blood and Return of the Orichalcos*.

I'm not sure what we're discussing, but this is absolutely ESSENTIAL for a roleplay to work. A roleplay does not depend on the plot, it depends upon the players...actually, Renegade already breaks it down pretty smoothly. Not too complicated plot.

Apart from the amount thing. What do you mean you can't keep track of everyone?...I guess that's why you guys always place a limit to your roleplays. Pfft. When you do that, you're basically locking it to death. People may grow bored and go away, and then you'll have nobody to replace them. . . . . just saying, just saying.

Okay, now second thing to be discussed: What would you guys like to see in an RP?

I would like to see a good structure, a powerful host, and something that forces you to actually think and try to get your character out of situations. People tend to forget this a lot, but roleplay isn't a story, it's a game. Anyway, I'd also like to see something not too complicated (many of the roleplays I see here nowadays are unnecessarily overcomplicated in their plots) and yes, a good plot that can tie together all the characters.

------

In other news, Legend Moon (the sequel to my successful Legend Blood) will be up very shortly~

No you cannot co-host. Not because I'm selfish, but because we are all equals.

A discussion isn't just three people. |:

Anyways, what makes an RP successful? I mean, a lot of it comes from dedication from the host, in that they don't just give up if activity stops dipping; but it also requires effort from the members and incentive to see the whole thing through. Other than that, I think it's just sheer luck. You have to hit the magic formula, which I know isn't easy to do.

Something I suffer from. I can preach all day about how a host shouldn't give up, but that would make me a hypocrite.
